JUDGE RAMONA FRANKLIN CAME UP SHORT STATEWIDE BUT HANDILY BEAT JUDGE BARBARA PARKER HERVEY IN HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS
Congratulations to Judge Ramona Franklin for running a solid race against Judge Barbara Parker Hervey in the race for Judge, Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 7. While Judge Franklin came up short in her quest to become the first Democrat to win a statewide race since the 1994 Gubernatorial election, she did accomplish a few things I would like to point out. In case you don't know, she handily beat Judge Barbara Parker Hervey in every measurable category in Harris County, Texas. ABSENTEE BALLOTS: Ramona Franklin received 46,837 for (49.84%), and Barbara Parker Hervey received 47,142 for (50.16%). EARLY VOTES: Ramona Franklin received 410,999 for (54.73%), and Barbara Parker Hervey received 339,949 for (45.27%). ELECTION DAY VOTES: Ramona Franklin received 193,598 for (56,60%), and Barbara Parker Hervey received 148,443 for (43.40%). CLOSING ANALYSIS ON FRANKLIN VERSUS HERVEY
In my opinion, Ramona Franklin could have beaten Barbara Parker Hervey in Harris County, Texas back on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 – even without the benefit of straight-ticket voting. How can I say this? Well, if you subtract Ramona Franklin’s 514,758 straight ticket votes from her 651,434 overall vote total, you will see that 136,676 Harris County, voters cast their ballots specifically for Ramona Franklin over Barbara Parker Hervey. Comparatively speaking, when you subtract Barbara Parker Hervey’s 410,060 straight-ticket votes away from her 535,534 overall vote total, you will see that only 125,474 Harris County voters went into the voting booth and cast their ballot for Barbara Parker Hervey over Ramona Franklin. What does this mean? Well, at least as Harris County, Texas voters were concerned, Ramona Franklin was the best candidate in this race, and would have won this matchup (in Harris County) by approximately 11,202 votes even if straight-ticket voting had not been allowed back on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, in the midterm election in my opinion.
