Only 1,912 Missouri City Voters Cast Ballots Through First 3 Days of Early Voting; Missouri City has Well Over 45,000 Registered Voters

Mayor Allen Owen and his wife Jane have been married for more than 50 years. And they've spent over 40 of those years serving the people of Missouri City, Texas.

MAYOR OWEN IS PROUD OF HIS SUCCESSES

The honorable Mayor Allen Owen is proud of his accomplishments. “I’m particularly proud of our continuing push by City Council to improve public safety. We recently have opened firehouses, and approved pay raises for Police and Fire Forces and all city workers. We’ve hired Missouri City Motorcycle Police Officers.” In spite of struggling economic conditions in other areas, “Missouri City home values have jumped many times and are one of the best buys in the area, because of our proximity to Houston, the Texas Medical Center, Energy Corridor and the Port of Houston.”

Owen serves on many boards, committees, and civic organizations throughout Missouri City. “Engagement is critical to me. I served the City as a Planning & Zoning Commissioner for five years, served on City Council for eight years, and have served as Mayor the past 24 years. We’re excited about HCC at Texas Parkway adjacent to City Hall with a $35 million investment to boost redevelopment there as a striking welcome to our City. Our library is growing, and we’re proud of our new civic center. Work continues for Metro getting commuter rail to our City along 90 and soon a bus network to move our citizens to and from work and school,” he said.

Allen and Jane are active at First United Methodist Church where they raised their children including a daughter who works as an FBISD teacher and are grateful Missouri City still is where their children and grandchildren visit. Owen earned degrees at Stephen F. Austin and SMU – Graduate School of Finance and Banking.

Mayor Allen Owen and Councilwoman Yolanda Ford will Square off in the Most Important Election in Missouri City’s History on Saturday, December 8, 2018; The Early Voting Period Started on Monday, November 26th and ends on Tuesday, December 4, 2018

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

Make no mistake about it; all eyes are on Missouri City, Texas, one of the greatest, safest, and well-run cities in these United States of America. And a large part of why Missouri City is a great city is because Mayor Allen Owen has dedicated his life as a committed husband, father, business leader, builder and civic volunteer to making Missouri City, Texas the “BEST CITY” imaginable. So, there’s no question left to be answered related to how much Mayor Allen Owen and his wife Jane loves the Show Me City! The only question that remains now is how much Missouri City loves Mayor Allen Owen. And if there’s an underlying question, that question is whether voters in Missouri City are going to allow what is supposed to be a non-partisan election, to morph into a partisan runoff election divided along racial, political, gender, and socio-economic lines. After all, when you look at the qualifications, body of work, and consistent commitment, the clear choice in the Saturday, December 8, 2018, Runoff Election between Mayor Allen Owen, and Council Member Yolanda Ford – the clear choice is Mayor Allen Owen!

NO REASON TO FIRE MAYOR OWEN

On Saturday, December 8, 2018, Missouri City voters will either vote to keep Mayor Allen Owen on the job, or fire him – it’s just that simple. But since the Tuesday, November 6, 2018, general election took place I have been working tirelessly to find one reason why Missouri City voters should not re-elect Mayor Allen Owenand I haven’t found one – NOT A SINGLE ONE! So, why does Mayor Owen have to run for re-election in a Saturday, December 8, 2018, Runoff Election against Council Member Yolanda Ford? Well, there’s absolutely no way to sugarcoat it, moving the Missouri City Mayoral Election to November, rather than continuing to have it take place during May election cycles has caused many more Missouri City, Texas residents to participate in the process of voting. So, with this new influx of voter participation, Mayor Allen Owen has found himself in the fight of his political life. Whereas Mayor Owen has been able to win re-election bids with between 3,059 to 3,644 votes in years past – he put up over twice the number of votes and still finished second back on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, in his showdown with Council Member Yolanda Ford and Fred Taylor. Get this, the 8,600 votes for 35.68 percent of the vote Councilwoman Ford received was historic for Missouri City, Texas. The third-place finisher, Fred G. Taylor garnered 7,075 votes for 29.35 percent of the vote which was also an astonishing number of votes for a normal “MAY ELECTION CYCLE” Mayoral Election for Missouri City, Texas. And Mayor Allen Owen’s 8,429 was a big number for him – but it only garnered him 34.97 percent of the vote!

A LOOK BACK AT 2016

In his 2016 re-election bid, held back on Saturday, May 07, 2016 against Fred Taylor, (no relation to me), Mayor Allen Owen only needed 3,059 votes to take 59.42 percent of the vote to win re-election. His opponent Fred Taylor only received 2,089 votes for 40.58 percent of the vote.

A LOOK BACK AT 2014

In his 2014 re-election bid, held back on Saturday, May 10, 2014, against Noel Pinnock Sr., Mayor Allen Owen only needed 3,644 votes to take 69.70 percent of the vote to win re-election. His opponent, Noel Pinnock Sr., only received 1,584 votes for 30.30 percent of the vote.

A LOOK BACK AT 2012

In his 2012 re-election bid, held on Saturday, May 12, 2012, Mayor Allen Owen was not challenged. Therefore, no Mayoral Election took place in Missouri City, Texas, back in 2012.

A LOOK BACK AT 2010

In his 2010 re-election bid, held back on Saturday, May 8, 2010, against Cynthia Lenton Gary, Mayor Allen Owen only needed 3,012 votes to take 57.70 percent of the vote to win re-election. His opponent Cynthia Lenton Gary only received 2,208 votes for 42.30 percent of the vote.

MAYOR OWEN IS A PROVEN LEADER

The honorable Mayor Allen Owen has been the catalyst behind over 1,500 plus new jobs in Missouri City; 32 major corporations relocating to Missouri City; Working to build Fire Station #6, and helping to negotiate the Houston Community College (HCC) to Texas Parkway. Expansion of the Missouri City, Texas library; Getting 2.5 million dollars approved for beautification and reader signs for the Texas Parkway Corridor, and Creation of Missouri City’s Master Plan, which includes a Veterans Memorial, dog park, amphitheater, educational Boardwalk, and investments in Hunters Glen Park and surrounding trails – can be credited in part to Mayor Allen Owen’s administration.

DEMOGRAPHIC BREAKDOWN OF MISSOURI CITY

Missouri City is a diverse city sitting inside one of the most diverse regions of America. According to recently published information prepared by Esri on the demographic breakdown of Missouri City, Texas, there’s somewhere in the neighborhood of about 32,619 African Americans currently living in Missouri City. There’s somewhere in the neighborhood of about 21,560 Whites living in Missouri City. About 15,399 Asians live in Missouri City. At this time, somewhere in the neighborhood of 13,729 Hispanics live inside the boundaries of Missouri City. Why are these numbers important? Well, they’re important because a city that’s 27.9 percent White, 42.2 percent African American, 0.4 percent Indian American, 19.9 percent Pacific Islander, 17.8 percent Hispanic can ill afford to divide along racial lines and continue to flourish.

EVERY VOTE WILL COUNT

Even though Councilwoman Yolanda Ford put on a historic showing to finished ahead of Mayor Owen back on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, in the General Mayoral Election – the runoff election could yield a different result. How can I say this? Well, the turnout was 21,103; but well-over 45,000 registered voters are living inside Missouri City, Texas. So, residents of Missouri City, Texas who value, and respect Mayor Allen Owen’s proven commitment should be working the phones, knocking on doors, and imploring their neighbors and friends to get their tails to the polls to vote early!

MAYOR OWEN FACES UPHILL BATTLE

To have any chance at winning the Saturday, December 8, 2018, Runoff Election, Allen Owen will need a much greater turnout in all 26 voter precincts in Fort Bend County. And he’ll also need to pick up more votes in the lone voter precinct in Harris County as well.
