Judge-Elect Lucia G. Bates Will Take the Harris County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3, Place 2 Bench in January of 2019

JUDGE-ELECT LUCIA G. BATES UNSEATED DEMOCRATIC JUDGE DON COFFEY BACK IN THE MARCH 2018 DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY; NO REPUBLICAN OPPOSITION

The story of the remarkable feat by Judge-Elect Lucia G. Bates has largely gone untold. However, her accomplishment didn’t go unnoticed by Houston Business Connections Newspaper©. In case you don’t know, Justice of the Peace Don Coffey was such a favorite to win re-election in the race Harris County Justice of the Peace for Precinct 3, Place 2 back on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, that no Republican candidate even bothered to sign up to run for the bench he held at that time. That’s where Lucia G. Bates, the woman who dared to oppose him in the Democratic Primary comes in. You see, she not only challenged him. She challenged him, but she challenged him and unseated Judge Coffey by garnering 6,117 votes, or 52.40% of the vote. As for Justice of the Peace Don Coffey – who only managed to garner 5,556, or 47.60% of the vote, you can expect to see this matchup again in the 2022 midterm election.
