Dr. Carla Brailey Discusses What Freedom Means to Her with Aubrey R. Taylor, Publisher of Houston Business Connections©

DR. CARLA BRAILEY: “Harriet Tubman once said, “Home is where freedom is...” My parents migrated, as a newly married couple, to Houston from a small rural town called Abbeville in Louisiana. They were free to pursue opportunities and they found great opportunities in the form of employment and their first home. In my parent’s home, I remember growing up as a young girl feeling free to develop my intellectual potential and to be expressive with a voice. And when freedom transfers to our intellectual being, it finds our soul and spirit and nurtures peace and passion, love and legacy, heart and happiness, fire and fantasies, vulnerabilities and victories, and dreams and destiny. At the same time, freedom will manifest as a core attribute to develop our moral compass, to seek justice for humanity, and to recognize prejudice and bias.

In the end, it is freedom that advances our potential and guides our journeys. If we do not develop the strengths of freedom, both our minds and our souls are enslaved.”

DR. CARLA BRAILEY

*In case you don't already know, Dr. Carla Brailey is the Vice-Chair of the Texas Democratic Party. And she's also one of the "PROUD AMERICANS" sharing her thoughts on freedom inside this "GROUND-GAME" edition of Houston Business Connections Newspaper© with Aubrey R. Taylor.

HOUSTON BUSINESS CONNECTIONS NEWSPAPER© IS A TRUSTED NON-PARTISAN BRANDING AND MOBILIZATION TOOL

In case you don’t remember, in a head-to-head “ENDORSEMENT SHOWDOWN” candidates endorsed by a “select group” of Houston Business Connections Newspaper© readers performed significantly better than those endorsed by the Houston Chronicle editorial board back in the Tuesday, November 8, 2016, Presidential Election as Democrat rolled to historic countywide victories over their Republicans counterparts in what, at the time, was the worst defeat ever for the Harris County Republican Party in its 71-year history.

HOUSTON BUSINESS CONNECTIONS NEWSPAPER© READERS SUPPORT CANDIDATES WHO VALUE THEIR VOTE

As a refresher, there were sixty-seven (67) races where a “select group” of Houston Business Connections Newspaper© readers went head-to-head against the Houston Chronicle editorial board. Fifty-one (51) of the sixty-seven (67) candidates endorsed by Houston Business Connections Newspaper© (in the head-to-head contest) back in the 2016 Presidential Election won their respective races on election night. By contrast, only thirty-eight (38) of the sixty-seven (67) candidates endorsed by the Houston Chronicle editorial board (in these key races) won their respective races back on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, in the Presidential Election as it relates specifically to Harris County, Texas.

THANKSGIVING: Gilberto Hinojosa, Texas Democratic Party Chairman "2014 Thanksgiving" message to Texas Residents

Dear Friend,

As we come together with friends, family, and neighbors to celebrate Thanksgiving, we look back on a year we will never forget, reflect on our struggles, and count our blessings.

We have so much to be thankful for this year -- especially your commitment to the Texas Democratic Party.

You’ve stayed with us this year during the good times and the bad. Together, we worked to elect new leadership for Texas, encouraged more people to get involved than ever before and gave this election everything we had.

Your commitment to make a difference and determination to see a better future for this state is what drives our Party -- we don’t know where we’d be without you.

As we approach the new year, let’s celebrate what unites us and renew our promise to build a better Texas for our families.

Thank you for all you do for Texas.

Happy Thanksgiving, and all my best --

Gilberto Hinojosa
Chair, Texas Democratic Party

PRESS RELEASE: From the Texas Democratic Party on Fixing the Broken Immigration System in the United States

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear friend,

President Obama just announced historic executive actions on immigration -- shielding as many as 5 million undocumented immigrants from deportation, granting work permits to some, and giving millions the ability to apply for deferred action status, including the parents of U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents.

While this is a temporary solution, the President’s announcement means a lot to my family. Two years ago, I was granted Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA), which allowed me to temporarily stay and work in the United States -- the only country I've ever known.

Now, for the first time since moving to the United States, some of my family members will be able to come out of the shadows without living in fear of being deported.

These executive actions will bring relief to thousands of Texas families. Add your name to show that Texans support President Obama’s immigration actions.

Republicans in Congress have had many chances to pass comprehensive immigration reform and fix our broken immigration system. Despite strong bipartisan support, Republicans in Congress continue to stand in the way of real reform.

Republican inaction is shameful, and Texas deserves better.

Growing up, I dreamt of a normal life. A life where I wouldn’t have to worry about being separated from my family because of my immigration status. When President Obama first announced DACA relief, I felt like I was set free and could accomplish anything I wanted. Today, I share the same joy with those receiving temporary relief from these executive orders.

Tonight's historic announcement is a victory not only for the immigrant community, but for all Americans. Granting relief to millions of immigrants strengthens the rich and diverse history of this country.

Add your name if you’re proud of President Obama for taking the first step towards fixing our broken immigration system:

P.S. We still have a lot of work to pass a bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform bill in Congress. Can you help us spread the word of tonight’s announcement by forwarding this email to five friends?
