State Rep. Cunningham, State Rep. Dutton, and State Rep. Thierry Voted to Approve Senate Bill 14 and Protect Children

State Rep. Charles Cunningham (HD-127), a Republican, State Harold Dutton Jr. (HD-142), a Democrat, and State Rep. Shawn Thierry (HD-146), a Democrat were the only African American state Representatives in the entire state of Texas who possessed the courage to vote for SENATE BILL 14, on Monday, May 15, 2023. Remember, Senate Bill 14, is legislation that was filed to protect underaged children from being subjected to sex-change operations. SB-14 is a bill relating to prohibitions on the provision to certain children of procedures and treatments for gender transitioning, gender reassignment, or gender dysphoria and on the use of public money or public assistance to provide those procedures and treatments. The video posted below includes comments from Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson of North Carolina as he shares his thoughts on the Transgender Movement. For the record, this is why the vote on SENATE BILL 14, which won bipartisan approval in the Texas House on Monday, May 15, 2023, was so important.

State Rep. Cunningham, State Rep. Dutton, and State Rep. Thierry Voted to Approve Senate Bill 14 and Protect Children

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

I am so proud of State Rep. Shawn Thierry (D-Houston), State Rep. Charles Cunningham (R-Kingwood), and State Rep. Harold V. Dutton Jr. (D-Houston), for having the courage to stand up for the children of the great state of Texas and vote in favor of Senate Bill 14, on Monday, May 15, 2023, at the State Capital in Austin.

It took a lot of courage to do what these three strong state representatives did yesterday, but ultimately, the annals of Texas history will one day reflect that they were on the right side of history on the matter of protecting Texas children from sex-change operations, and other medically induced procedures, that should not be happening whereas underaged minors are concerned.

As Monday, June 19, 2023, which is the day, Juneteenth is celebrated in Texas, creeps closer, it is imperative that African Americans, and those who support us, understand, that freedom isn’t free.

And to protect the freedoms that our ancestors bled and died to win for us, we must endeavor to make sure that we are honoring their legacy by electing people to public office who value us, respect us, and are truly fighting for our best interests.

As a body of people, we are rejecting some of our strongest leaders, like the late Gerry Wayne Monroe, and embracing weak people like State Rep. Alma Allen (HD-131), who hasn’t done anything of significance specifically for “BLACK PEOPLE” during all the years she’s been serving as the House District 131 state representative.

We must do better!

On the morning of the final vote on Senate Bill 14, I received this heartfelt text message from State Rep. Briscoe Cain (R-Deer Park), remembering Gerry Wayne Monroe, the "FIVE STAR GENERAL" and his fight against corruption and election fraud, "It would be an understatement to say God broke the mold after He made Gerry Wayne Monroe -- but that's what he did. Gerry was a true Texas treasure. As a fearless freedom fighter, he never hesitated to say what the rest of us were thinking. Conservatives owe a debt of gratitude to Gerry. We have a duty to carry on his battle against political corruption and election fraud." And Briscoe is correct, in my opinion.

Now what you might not know, is that Gerry Wayne Monroe, who left the Democratic Party and joined the Republican Party a few years before his untimely death, and State Rep. Briscoe Cain had something great in common – they shared a bond as it related to exposing wrongdoing.

State Rep. Briscoe Cain, has a strong record of defending the unborn and religious liberty. If you remember, back in 2016, Briscoe Cain’s advocacy made headlines on news stations all across America when he released invoices exposing four Texas Medical Schools for using tax dollars to purchase aborted fetal tissue.

Then, in December of 2015, it was State Rep. Briscoe who step forward and successfully defended the religious rights of those Beaumont Police Officers who had been banned from having Bible study while they were on their lunch break.

“LEGACY SECURED.”

As for Gerry Wayne Monroe, he fought tirelessly for the children of the great state of Texas. In fact, on the day of his life, he was lying on his couch at home alone, fighting for the children of HISD, until he took his last breath.

According to a tweet he posted in the moments leading up to his untimely death, Gerry Wayne Monroe had been sick for three days. However, the last two tweets he tweeted summed up his work, and advocacy, and secured his legacy in the annals of Texas history.

The first tweet read, "Cheating on the STAAR test at Henderson Elementary. Principal backing teachers on checking the students' tests as they go." He went on to say, "Sent K-2nd on a field trip and let teachers test their own kids and check their tests." His final tweet which was sent out a few hours later said, "951816 I'm down I w. We. Sick for 3 days siMe Steo Ayala."

“A LITTLE HISTORY.”

During the Reconstruction era 44 African Americans were serving in the Texas Legislature as Republicans; but today, only 16 African Americans are serving as state Representatives in total.

Today, only 15 African Americans are serving in the Texas House of Representatives as Democrats, and only one is serving as a Republican. And just in case you’re wondering, only two African Americans, State Senator Borris Miles (Senate District 13), and State Senator Royce West (Senate District 23), are serving in the Texas Senate. That being said, it’s unquestionable that when it comes to Texas, African Americans are worse off than we were back during the Reconstruction era which last from December in the 1860s to March of 1877.

For those of you who might not know, the Reconstruction era is a very significant piece of American history that is marked in the annals of time which followed the American Civil War. It was during this very important period, that Congress passed three constitutional amendments that permanently abolished slavery and clearly defined pathways to citizenship for African Americans.

It was also during the Reconstruction era that African Americans were guaranteed due process and equal protection under the law.

“SENATE BILL 14.”

If we fast forward to Monday, May 15, 2023, a very important vote took place in the Lone Star State. In my opinion, SB-14, or Senate Bill 14, is one of the most significant pieces of legislation that has been written since the abolishment of slavery back in the 1800s. Why? Well, for one reason, if children are the future of America, it is incumbent upon us to make sure that their rights are protected.

In case you don’t know, Senate Bill 14, is a bill, “Relating to prohibitions on the provision to certain children of procedures and treatments for gender transitioning, gender reassignment, or gender dysphoria and the use of public money or public assistance to provide those procedures and treatments. And glory be to God, that on Monday, May 15, 2023, according to “RECORD VOTE” number 1688, the unofficial totals related to SB-14, ended up being 87 Yeas, and 57 Nays, with 2 Present, but not voting.

Now, please remember that the aforementioned vote totals have not been certified by the House Journal Clerk. And the vote tally listed above is for informational purposes only. For the record, once the vote is certified, my understanding is that it will be recorded in the journal according to Rule 5, of the House Rules, and will be made available for public viewing on their website.

So, at this time I would like to thank State Rep. Charles Cunningham (HD-127), State Rep. Harold Dutton (HD-142), and State Rep. Shawn Theirry (HD-146), for breaking ranks with their Democratic colleagues and having the courage to side with their conscience by casting their vote in favor of the passage of Senate Bill 14, to protect the children of the great state of Texas from sex-change operations.

As it stands for State Rep. Alma Allen (HD-131), State Rep. Rhetta Andrews Bowers (HD-113), State Rep. Sheryl Cole (HD-46), State Rep. Nicole Collier (HD-95), State Rep. Yvonne Davis (HD-111), State Rep. Javis Johnson (HD-139), State Rep. Jolanda Jones (HD-147), State Rep. Venton Jones (HD-100), State Rep. Christian Manuel (HD-22), State Rep. Ron Reynolds (HD-27), State Rep. Toni Rose (HD-110), and State Rep. Senfronia Thompson (HD-141), they should all be ashamed of themselves for not having the courage, intestinal fortitude and courage to stand up and protect the children of the great state of Texas from sex-change operations.

For the record, State Rep. Barbara Gervin-Hawkins (HD-120) was present for the vote but did not vote one way or the other. That being said, I’m not sure where she stands on the issue of allowing sex-change operations to be performed on children, but either way, I commend her for having the courage to stand down, and not take a public position on this matter.

In closing, State Rep. Carl Sherman (HD-109) had an excused absence for the vote on Senate Bill 14, which took place on Monday, May 15, 2023, at the State House in Austin, Texas.
