Three of the influential Black men I know are featured in this report. Ray “RC” Jones, the Northside Political Action Group president, has been a fixture in local politics for over four decades. I’ve admired RC’s bold stance on issues from afar until recently, but since he’s become one of my trusted advisors, I’ve come to respect him even more.
There’s a community meeting taking place on Monday, Dec. 16, 2024, @ 6:30 p.m. at the Houston Community College (HCC) North Forest Campus located at 6010 Little York Rd, Houston, Texas 77016, in room 128, that stakeholders in the community should be aware of.
“The HCC North Forest Campus is currently facing a significant issue that has persisted since early 2023, says Mr. “RC” Jones.
According to Mr. “RC” Jones, “Precinct 1 of the Harris County Commissioners Court is proposing to take away 14 acres of campus land to construct a detention pond.”
“While addressing flooding is critical, this plan raises important questions, especially given the millions of dollars already secured by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee to improve existing drainage channels,” says Mr. “RC” Jones.
I strongly encourage stakeholders, community leaders, and other elected officials to consider attending the HCC Meeting and arm yourselves with information.

In case you haven’t heard, State Senator Borris L. Miles, the “SON OF SUNNYSIDE,” was recently named the “LEGISLATOR OF THE YEAR” by the National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL), which is a prestigious honor and distinction.

“GOING ALL IN.”
The Harris County Democratic Party will face a significant test on Saturday, May 3, 2024, when Judge DaSean Jones, a lifetime Democrat, will face the toughest test of his political life.
As a refresher, Judge DaSean Jones was singled out and withstood a barrage of attacks from “GOP” and their allies back during the tumultuous Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022, Midterm Election. However, after 1,068,471 votes were cast in the race for the 180th Criminal District Court between Judge Jones and his Republican challenger (Tami C. Pierce), only 449 votes separated the two.
Judge DaSean Jones received 534,460 votes, 50.02%, and his challenger, Tami C. Pierce, received 534,011 votes, 49.98%, and came up short by a mere 449 votes.
After coming short, Tami C. Pierce and many other losing Republican candidates cried foul. They alleged that illegal votes got cast and counted. In more than (22) twenty-two lawsuits, “THE GOP” plaintiffs alleged that predominantly Republican voting locations didn’t receive an adequate ballot paper.
In court, Tami C. Pierce prevailed as a visiting judge named David Peeples determined that at least 1,400 illegal votes were cast, which made it impossible to ascertain the winner of the 180th Criminal District Court race, and ordered a new election.
Early voting for the upcoming Saturday, May 3, 2025, Uniform Election will begin on Tuesday, Apr. 3, 2025, and end on Tuesday, Apr. 29, 2025, according to the Texas Secretary of State.

The HCC North Forest Campus is facing a significant issue that has persisted since early 2023. Precinct 1 of the Harris County Commissioners Court proposes removing 14 acres of campus land to construct a detention pond. While addressing flooding is critical, this plan raises important questions, especially given the millions of dollars already secured by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee to improve existing drainage channels.
These channels have historically served the community well, even as new homes were built in flood-prone areas. However, it is worth questioning why permits were issued for these developments, knowing they were located in a flood zone and required elevation for construction. Such decisions have compounded the current challenges, and now, instead of pursuing a sustainable and forward-thinking solution, the proposed detention pond plan would strip valuable land from the campus.
An alternative solution exists to construct a concrete channel using the allocated federal funds. This approach would efficiently redirect water to the main bayou, mitigating flood risks without sacrificing the HCC North Forest Campus’s 14 acres. However, this solution requires fully committing the designated funds to the project without diverting resources for unrelated purposes.
In my next article, I will provide further details and follow up on what actions have been taken or not taken to address this critical issue. The community deserves transparency and accountability, and we must prioritize long-term solutions over temporary fixes.
