Georgia Provost Endorses her longtime Friend, and Fellow Trailblazer Former Constable Ken Jones in Race for Precinct 3 Constable

The Honorable Georgia D. Provost, a trailblazer in her own right has boldly stepped forward to endorse Former Harris County Precinct 3 Constable Ken Jones in his bid to reclaim the position he honorably retired from back in 2016. And according to Georgia D. Provost, the time has come for African Americans to wake up and stop voting for Black elected officials who continue to fail our community time and time again. As far as Georgia D. Provost is concerned, Ken Jones is the best choice all Democrats in Precinct 3 should cast their ballot for on Tuesday, March 3, 2020. "Some of our neighborhoods look like 3rd World Countries," says Georgia D. Provost, a longtime businesswoman, and philanthropist.

Georgia D. Provost Has Endorsed Her Longtime Friend, Former Constable Ken Jones in the Tuesday, March 3, 2020, Democratic Primary Race for Harris County Constable for Precinct 3

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

Former Harris County Precinct 3 Constable Ken Jones has picked up the highly-coveted endorsement of his longtime friend the Honorable Georgia D. Provost. Over the past few years, Georgia has become increasingly more vocal about her disdain for the ineffective leadership the Black community has been receiving. So, according to her, the time has come for the Black community to wake up, fight for better representation, and stop voting for candidates and re-electing people just because they happen to be African American. "Politicians have three items on their plate," says Georgia D. Provost, a matriarch in the Black community. "They are typically concerned with how much money they can raise; how many votes they can get, and what position they will seek next," she says. "More often than not, the voters are not even factored into this equation," explains Georgia. "As a public servant, the right elected officials can help provide voters with a great quality of life, meet with voters, host town hall meetings and listen to the concerns the people have, and provide solutions -- but too many of our current elected officials are failing us in this regard," she went on to say. "Just go back through our history, we have not had a true public servant since Rev. Adam Clayton Powell, Jr.," says Georgia. Who is Rev. Adam Clayton Powell, Jr? I'm glad you asked. He was a Baptist pastor and a highly successful American politician. Clayton Powell Jr. represented the Harlem neighborhood of New York City in the United States House of Representatives from 1945 until 1971. The Rev. Adam Clayton Powell Jr. was the first African-American to be elected from New York to the United States Congress.

Philip Randolph (far right) at the Pan American World Airways terminal, in New York City: Image: Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Photographs and Prints Division, The New York Public Library. (1950 – 1959).

Georgia D. Provost is certainly a "MODERN-DAY TRAILBLAZER" in her own right -- there's no mistaking that. For well over 50 years she has served as a community activist/volunteer and has participated in the business, cultural, educational, humanitarian, political and religious/spiritual sectors throughout Harris County, Texas. And her role as a member of the Helfman/Provost Fundraising Team is and has always been to raise funds for injured or fallen law enforcement officers and their families, MHMRA, KTSU, TSU, and other charitable organizations. So, it's no surprise that she and Former Harris County Precinct 3 Constable Ken Jones are longtime friends.

"Former Precinct 3 Constable Ken Jones, Judge Lucia G. Bates, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo and a host of other Modern-Day Democratic Party Trailblazers will be recognized between Saturday, February 1, 2020, and Saturday, February 29, 2020, for their courage to step forward and serve America during this pivotal moment in the history of our great nation."

Judge Lucia G. Bates (lower left) is the first African American woman to be elected as the Harris County Justice of the Peace for Precinct 3, Place 2. Former Precinct 3 Constable Ken Jones (top left) served as the Harris County Precinct 3 Constable from 2000 to 2016 before honorably retiring. While Ken Jones was the Precinct 3 Constable, he initiated the Child Identification Fingerprint Program among many other notable firsts. And Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo (far right) is the first Latina Harris County Judge, male or female to ever be elected to serve the people of Harris County. For sure, all three of these honorable Democrats will be highlighted as “MODERN-DAY DEMOCRATIC TRAILBLAZERS” during Black History Month which will begin on Saturday, February 1, 2020, and end on Saturday, February 29, 2020. However, please keep in mind that, neither Judge Lucia G. Bates or Judge Lina Hidalgo's name will appear on the ballot on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, because neither will be up for re-election until 2022. But as it relates, to Former Constable Ken Jones, his name will be on the ballot in the race for Harris County Constable for Precinct 3. So, for FYI purposes, do not forget that judges can't make public endorsements. Now, that being stated, please do not mischaracterize Judge Lucia G. Bates, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, or any other judge you see highlighted as a "MODERN-DAY DEMOCRATIC TRAILBLAZER" as an endorsement for any other Democrat featured in the upcoming series.

Judge Lucia G. Bates, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, and Former Constable Ken Jones to be Recognized as "Modern-Day Trailblazers during Black History Month

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

Nothing that we've ever accomplished has been achieved in a vacuum. That's why it's vitally important that as we prepare to remember past trailblazers and celebrate our rich history, that we also recognize current "MODERN-DAY TRAILBLAZERS" as well. That being said, we will be placing a great emphasis on people from all walks of life who have done notable things in Texas you should be aware of. And many among the ranks of those to be recognized are women. So, for the record, we will place a greater emphasis on Democrats this year, especially since they're the party in power in Harris County, Texas. Now, please don't forget that judges can’t endorse their friends or other political candidates, so please do not make the mistake of assuming that the Honorable Judge Lucia G. Bates or Honorable Judge Lina Hidalgo are endorsing Former Harris County Precinct 3 Constable Ken Jones in his bid to take back the office he retired from back in 2016. Neither of these three “DULY-QUALIFIED” Democrats is connected to any other trailblazer being featured in this series in any way shape or form. Nope! Judge Lucia G. Bates won’t be up for re-election until 2022. And the same goes for Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, who isn't up for re-election until 2022. However, as it relates to Former Harris County Constable Ken Jones, he will have to face off against current Harris County Precinct 3 Constable Sherman Eagleton, John Jay "JP" Portillo, Deborah Florus, Michel (Poppy) Pappillion and Eric Reed when early voting begins on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, in Harris County, Texas. So, that being said, Houston Business Connections Newspaper© would like to take this moment to announce Judge Lucia G. Bates, and Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo will both be featured as “MODERN-DAY TRAILBLAZERS” during Black History Month which will last from Saturday, February 1, 2020, through Saturday, February 29, 2020. And as for Harris County Constable Ken Jones, his tireless dedication to Harris County, Texas over the years is something worth noting during this pivotal time in American history. He faithfully served his constituents while in office, and there’s absolutely no doubt that he cares about the families of Precinct 3. But don’t take my word for it, back in 2016, he was honored with the 23rd Annual Public Safety Award of Excellence by the Baytown Chamber of Commerce, and that speaks volumes about him as a public servant. So, to honor Judge Lucia G. Bates, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo and Former Constable Ken Jones, Houston Business Connections Newspaper© will feature them, and other trailblazers in a special “KEEPSAKE” issue of our “GROUND-GAME” edition.

Former Harris County Precinct 3 Constable Ken Jones is pictured above shaking hands with Harris County Commissioner Adrian Garcia who is also a trailblazer in his own right. Commissioner Adrian Garcia will not be up for re-election until 2022.

NO SUBSTITUTE FOR EXPERIENCE

“There's No Substitute for Experience,” says Former Harris County Precinct 3 Constable Ken Jones. And he should know because he’s got more than 50 years of Law Enforcement Experience. And beyond that, he’s been a trailblazer in every sense of the word. In case you don’t know, it was Ken Jones who started the first neighborhood "Contract Deputy Program in Precinct 3; It was Ken Jones who Initiated Mounted Horse Patrols in Precinct 3; It was Ken Jones who initiated the Neighborhood Crime Watch Program; It was Ken Jones who initiated the Child Identification Fingerprint Program for Precinct 3; It was Ken Jones who initiated the Handicap Parking Enforcement Program for Precinct 3; It was Ken Jones who initiated the Seniors Crime Prevention Program for Precinct 3; It was Ken Jones who purchased Precinct 3’s first drug dog; It was Ken Jones who established Precinct 3’s first "High Water Emergency Response Team" with high water trucks and boats; It was Ken Jones who established Precinct 3’s first G.R.E.A.T Anti-Gang Program; It was Ken Jones who established the first Community Policing Program (Resident Deputy Program) in Precinct 3; It was Ken Jones who established the Harris County Joint Task Force with former Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia; Ken Jones was presented with the "Golden Trowel Award" by the Masonic Lodge; Ken Jones served on the Board for the Wendel D Ley YMCA in North Shore; Ken Jones served on the Board for the Northeast Family YMCA; Ken Jones served as a past President of the Baytown Shrine Club; Ken Jones is a member of the First Baptist Church in Huffman, Texas; and he is also a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

"Seeing the commitment in our county, the love and sheer grit in our community, has made me even more determined to expand what's right and fix what isn't. We’re in a hurry, and we’re just getting started."

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo is a "MODERN-DAY TRAILBLAZER" and will be recognized as such during Black History Month. Judge Hidalgo will not be up for re-election until the 2022 midterm election.

JUDGE LINA HIDALGO IS A MODERN-DAY TRAILBLAZER IN HER OWN RIGHT AND WORTHY OF BEING RECOGNIZED AS SUCH

Judge Lina Hidalgo is the head of Harris County’s governing body. She is the first woman to be elected County Judge and only the second to be elected to the Commissioners Court.

Harris County is the third-largest county in our nation. Its population of more than 4.5 million rivals that of the entire state of Colorado. The Harris County Judge and four County Commissioners oversee a $4.3 billion budget that helps fund key county services and institutions.

The County Judge is the presiding officer on the Commissioners Court. As the main governing body of Harris County, the Commissioners Court plays a critical role that is part administrative, part legislative, and part judicial. Its many responsibilities include adopting a budget; setting tax rates; calling for bond elections; building and maintaining county infrastructures such as roads and bridges; and overseeing county courthouses, jails, libraries, parks, and the Harris County Flood Control District.

By state law, the County Judge is also the county’s director of emergency management, leading the Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HCOHSEM). In addition to her formal duties, Judge Hidalgo plays an important advocacy role for the County.

Judge Hidalgo believes that our region will remain competitive only through proactive and creative leadership on issues like flood control, transportation, criminal justice reform, and education. She is committed to ensuring that Harris County's government is transparent, accessible, and accountable to every resident. She wants Harris County to be a place where everyone can attain the American Dream.

"The decisions made in the Justice of the Peace Court impact our community including our Schools, Families, and Businesses. My desire is to make well-informed decisions that will strengthen the ENTIRE Precinct 3 Community."

And nope, unfortunately, Judge Lucia G. Bates will not be able to publicly endorse her longtime friend in his bid to take back the Harris County Precinct 3 Constable's office he honorably retired from back in 2016.

State Senator Carol Alvarado (second from left) is also a "MODERN-DAY TRAILBLAZER" in her own right. She currently represents the 6th Senatorial District of Texas. State Senator Alvarado, Judge Lucia G. Bates, and Former Harris County Constable Ken Jones will all be featured as "MODERN-DAY TRAILBLAZERS" by Houston Business Connections Newspaper© during Black History Month. And nope, none of the individuals pictured above are endorsing one another in any way, shape, or form. In case you don't know, State Senator Carol Alvarado is unchallenged on Tuesday, March 6, 2020, in the Democratic Primary. JUDGE LUCIA G. BATES IS A MODERN-DAY TRAILBLAZER IN HER OWN RIGHT AND WORTHY OF BEING RECOGNIZED AS SUCH

Since winning her bid to represent Harris County as the Harris County Justice of the Peace for Precinct 3, Place 2, Judge Lucia G. Bates has been faithfully serving the people of Harris County, Texas as an independent and honorable member of the judiciary, which is imperative when it comes to administering justice in our society. Judge Bates continues to participate in establishing, maintaining and enforcing high standards of conduct as she faithfully serves the people. And in case you don’t know, she’s the first African American woman ever elected to serve as Justice of the Peace for Precinct 3, Place 2. While that makes her unique, it isn’t what makes her special. In my opinion, it’s the integrity she’s brought to her bench, and the independence she’s maintained since taking office. She’s definitely a judge that the people of Precinct 3 can be proud of, and adores. We will definitely share more about Judge Lucia G. Bates and a few of her accomplishments inside the upcoming editions.

"There absolutely no substitute for experience. So, I sincerely hope to earn the vote of every Precinct 3 voter on Tuesday, March 3, 2020. I am also honored to be recognized and highlighted as a trailblazer along with all of these other fine Democrats."

He is also credited with reducing crime and establishing a "24 Hour Neighborhood Patrol" to keep Precinct 3 residents safe.

FORMER CONSTABLE KEN JONES IS A MODERN-DAY TRAILBLAZER IN HIS OWN RIGHT AND WORTHY OF BEING RECOGNIZED AS SUCH

There’s “No Substitute for Experience,” says Former Precinct 3 Constable Ken Jones. And since bursting onto the scene back in the 2020 Democratic Primary, he served the people well, according to a few of the people we talked to before deciding to recognize him as a “MODERN-DAY TRAILBLAZER” during Black History Month which will last from February 1, 2020, through Saturday, February 29, 2020.
