Inquiry Shows Only Five Black Males and Thirty-Six Black Females Occupying Judicial Benches in Harris County, Texas

Judge Sedrick Walker (left), is one of only (5) five African American male incumbent judges in Harris County, Texas. Judge DaSean Jones (center), and Judge Robert Johnson are (2) two more African American incumbent judges. The other two African American judges are Judge Darrell Jordan, and Judge Joe Stephens, at this time. However, Judge DaSean Jones is having his Tuesday, November 8, 2022, victory challenged by his opponent, Tami Pierce, in a lawsuit. If Tami Pierce (Republican), wins her challenge she could either be announced the winner or a new election could be ordered.

Inquiry Shows Only Five Black Males and Thirty-Six Black Females Occupying Judicial Benches in Harris County, Texas

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

Today, I’m going to pull the covers back on a few things that are currently being cooked up in the Houston area. For starters, according to reports published last week, the latest crime analysis for the 2022 calendar year shows that violent crime was down 8% (one percentage point) from the previous year. And according to Houston Police Chief Troy Finner, there were 435 murders in 2022, and 477 the prior year – that’s still a lot of murders.

So, with all of the killing taking place in Houston, Texas have you ever wondered why when you turn on the nightly news, for the most part, what you see are faces of African American men plastered all over the screen? There’s absolutely no way that Black males committed all those murders. That being said, start paying more attention to what crimes are being reported by the local news stations between now and the upcoming 2023 City of Houston Mayoral Election, and during the upcoming 2024 Presidential Election cycle.

Did you know that the third largest county in America only has five Black males sitting on local judicial benches? Nope, I’m not kidding. And have you ever stopped to wonder why local media stations are seeming to choose to report violent crimes being committed by Blacks disproportionately?

What’s happening right now, is more and more people are becoming afraid of Black males. And the local news media is fueling all of this by focusing their reports (for the most part) on violent crimes being committed by Black males, and underreporting crimes being committed by other ethnic groups.

What you have to understand about the local news coverage we’re seeing in our area is that someone behind the scenes is determining what stories make the news (get aired), and which stories don’t make the news.

So, if the people making the decisions behind the scenes, local newsrooms, decides to push a certain narrative, they have the power to do so unchecked for the most part. Why? Well, there aren’t any powerful independently owned Black news organizations that have the ability to push back against the campaigns we’re seeing unfold.

WHAT’S ALL THIS ABOUT?

Back during the 1990s, there weren’t any Black judges sitting on benches in Harris County, Texas. Back then, courtrooms in Harris County, Texas were controlled by “TOUGH ON CRIME” Republican judges. During the 1990s, when Republicans controlled the courtrooms, in a lot of cases people being accused of crimes would some cases end up running up long criminal records because they would take plea bargains (in some cases) for crimes they didn’t even commit, just to earn their freedom.

During the 2018 Midterm Election cycle, a huge voting surge, categorized as a “BLUE WAVE” flowed through Harris County, Texas. And when the waters had subsided, only Democrats were left standing.

To be brutally honest, many folks from both sides of the political aisle were angered, that so many Black judges gained control of local civil, criminal, family, juvenile, and probate court benches.

If you take a look back at the 2020 Presidential Election cycle, Blacks once again showed their dominance by rolling through the Tuesday, March 3, 2020, Democratic Party Primary taking out LGBTQ+ Democratic Judges, and other fellow Democratic incumbent judges.

When it came time for the Tuesday, November 3, 2020, Presidential Election, Democrats swept through Harris County, Texas once again. And several more local judicial benches were captured by duly qualified Blacks who were on the ballot running for judicial positions. That being said, more people from both sides of the political aisle become even more upset at the number of Blacks serving on local benches.

Now, back on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, in the Midterm Election, something very interesting happened. Democrats failed to sweep Harris County, Texas like they did back during the 2018 Midterm Election, and 2020 Presidential Election. And get this, the only Democrats who lost their countywide races just so happen to be African Americans – go figure!

WHERE THINGS STAND

The “GOP” closed a lot of ground on “DEMOCRATS” back on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, in the Midterm Election, in Harris County, Texas. What you have to remember is that Republicans got blown out by Democrats in countywide races back during the 2020 Presidential Election, in some races Republican judicial candidates lost by well over 100,000 votes.

Now, if you go back to the 2018 Midterm Election, in some of the local judicial races, in Harris County, Texas, some of the Republican candidates lost by well over 150,000 votes.

So, for the record, “THE GOP” went from trailing “THE DEMOCRATS” by more than 100,000 votes in countywide races back during the 2020 Presidential Election, more than 150,000 votes back during the 2018 Midterm election, to taking (4) four local judicial benches, back on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, in the Midterm Election, which sets up a very interesting 2024 Presidential Election cycle.

As for where things stand right now, it’s going to be very interesting to see if (HCDP) Harris County Democratic Party is going to allow the few African Americans incumbent judges they have running for reelection in 2024, to run uncontested in their Tuesday, March 5, 2024, Democratic Party Primary, similar to what the (HCRP) Harris County Republican Party did for their 2022 judicial nominees.
