2024 Canvass Reports Reveal the HCDP Has a Race Relations Issue to Address Before Heading into the 2026 Midterms
AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©
Pleasantville, Houston, is one of the strongest Democratic voter precincts that is still reliably predominantly African American in population. Unlike some of the other Democratic strongholds, the African Americans in Pleasantville, for the most part, voted for Democratic candidates no matter what their ethnic backgrounds happen to be in 2024.
In the recent Tuesday, November 5, 2024, Presidential Election, Judge Kristen Hawkins received 1,000 votes, Judge Fredericka Phillips received 1,002 votes, Judge Jeralynn Manor received 988 votes, Judge Michael Gomez received 996 votes, Judge-Elect Nicole Perdue received 994 votes, and Judge Elaine Palmer received 994 votes in Precinct 259, which is in Pleasantville, a predominantly African American Democratic stronghold.
Heading into the 2026 Midterm Elections in Harris County, Texas, there are (26) twenty-six African American “INCUMBENT DEMOCRATIC JUDGES” who could be challenged on Super Tuesday in the Democratic Party Primary.
If you remember back during the 2022 Democratic Party Primary, (12) twelve “INCUMBENT DEMOCRATIC JUDGES,” mostly white, lost their benches in the primaries on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, Democratic Party Primary, and then, on November 8, 2022, Midterm Election, the only Democratic candidates running countywide for a Judicial Position in Harris County, Texas who lost, were African American candidates, with “ethnic-sounding” names.
Judge Ronnisha Bowman (Democrat) lost to her Republican challenger (Paula Goodhart) during the 2022 Midterm Election. Je’Rell Rogers (Democrat) lost to his Republican opponent (Jessica Padilla) during the 2022 Midterm Election. Gemayel (Democrat) lost to his Republican opponent (Kristin Guiney) during the 2022 Midterm Election. And Porscha Natasha Brown (Democrat) lost to her Republican opponent (Leslie Johnson) during the 2022 Midterm Election.
Below is a list of the (26) sitting African American “INCUMBENT DEMOCRATIC JUDGES” who are scheduled to be on the “SUPER TUESDAY BALLOT” in Harris County, Texas, if they choose to run for re-election. The only question mark is Judge DaSean Jones, who must defend his bench in a Tuesday, May 3, 2025, “RE-DO ELECTION” for the 180th Criminal District Court bench.
During the 2022 Midterm Election, Porsha Natasha Brown only lost by 267 votes on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, with 1,059,031 votes cast in the race for Judge, County Criminal Court No. 3, in Harris County, Texas.
“FAST FORWARD.”
If you thought the 2022 Midterm Election race between Porsha Natasha Brown (Democrat) and Leslie Johnson (Republican) was close, what happened on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in the races for District Judge, 80th Civil District Court, and District Judge, 215th Civil District Court will leave you scratching your head.
Judge Elaine Palmer, the presiding “DEMOCRATIC JUDGE,” over the 215th Civil District Court, lost her bench by 304 votes, in part, because Mike Doyle, the chairman and treasurer for the Harris County Democratic Party, appears to have sold her out, and sabotaged her campaign.
Judge Jeralynn Manor, the presiding “DEMOCRATIC JUDGE” over the 80th Civil District Court, lost her bench by 647 votes, in part because Mike Doyle took nearly $1 million out of the Harris County Democratic Party (CEC) County Executive Committee Bank Account, and transferred it to the Harris County (FED) PAC, Bank Account, and failed to use the money to promote his down-ballot judicial nominees against the harmful “ATTACK ADS” that flooded local TV and Radio airwaves.
“CLOSING THOUGHTS.”
Aside from the “SHELL GAME,” Mike Doyle played with the $948,008.45 he transferred from one account to another, the “SYSTEMATIC SKIPPING,” of ‘ethnic-sounding’ names in certain Democratic voter precincts, played a significant role in the purging of “BLACK JUDGES” from the ranks of the judiciary on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in Harris County, Texas.

Judge Fredericka Phillips (Democrat) had a slight hiccup when she was first elected presiding judge for the 61st Civil District Court bench. The fact that Judge Phillips's mistake is constantly used against her while the shortcomings of other public officials are swept under the rug wreaks of potential 'racial bias' against her must stop immediately. There's no logical explanation for Judge Fredericka Phillips (Democrat) to receive so many fewer votes than Judge Kristen Hawkins (Democrat), who appeared in the "CONTESTED JUDICIAL RACE" right before hers on the ballot. Based on the "OFFICIAL CANVASS REPORT" certified by Harris County Commissioners on Friday, November 15, 2024, Fredericka Phillips received 724,465 votes for 49.46% of the vote, and her challenger Lee Kathryn Shuchart (Republican) received 740,386 votes for 50.54%. That said, Judge Fredericka Phillips lost her bid for reelection to her challenger by 15,921 votes.
