A 2023 Mayoral Run by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee Would Cause Gilbert Garcia, Senator John Whitmire Problems

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee is being courted by an increasingly large contingent of Black ministers to run for Mayor of the City of Houston on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. As it stands right now, many top Black leaders are not sold on former Harris County Clerk Chris Hollins or the former At-Large City of Houston Councilwoman Amanda Edwards as serious contenders. One local leader even called their bids to become Mayor a joke. Another said, "If Sheila enters the race Hollins and Edwards need to get out of the way and go sit down somewhere." IN OTHER NEWS, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee will be serving as the "SPECIAL GUEST" at a Ministers United for Houston Future event this coming Saturday, at 5PM, at 51fifteen Cuisine, that's located at 5175 Westheimer Road, in Houston, Texas 77056. The Ministers United for Houston's Future will be hosting an event on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the 51fifteen Cuisine from 5PM through 7PM, where Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, is their "SPECIAL GUEST" for the night. "You can "CLICK HERE" to view this flyer.

State Senator John Whitmire is the clear front-runner at this point in the race to become Houston's next Mayor. His only real threat right now is Gilbert Garcia, the former chairman of METRO, who also happens to be a wealthy businessman. However, if Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee were to enter the race for Mayor, she could conceivably split Whitmire and Garcia and force a runoff.

Gilbert Garcia hasn't gained as much traction as he should have in African American circles since announcing his Mayoral bid last week. Why? Well, with the thoughts of a potential run for Mayor by Congresswoman Sheila Sheila Jackson Lee permeating through political circles, many Black leaders who haven't already committed to state Senator John Whitmire, appear to be sitting in wait-and-see-mode, as Congresswoman Lee, makes up her mind. However, if Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee were to make a December runoff against someone like Gilbert Garcia, I believe that Garcia would handily defeat her because the race would be nonpartisan, and conservatives would vote in groves for anyone not named Sheila Jackson Lee.

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "We must make it our business to start "PUTTING PEOPLE OVER POLITICS" going forward into the 2023 City of Houston Mayoral Election, the 2024 Democratic Party Primary, and 2024 Republican Party Primary. Our nation is at a serious crossroads, and a serious course correction is needed."

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

I spent a considerable amount of time last night on a conference call with a very close friend of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee who assured me that the honorable congresswoman won’t be running for Mayor of Houston, Texas on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. However, on the call with us, was a local Black pastor, who assured me that Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee is expected to jump into the upcoming Tuesday, November 7, 2023, Mayoral race that already has a very crowded field of contenders.

One thing that’s clear when it comes to Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, is the fact that she has a bunch of constituents who love her, and she’s got a bunch of folks who don’t particularly care for her in the least bit. Anyways, regardless of your opinion as to whether she’s going to run for mayor or not, nobody can argue against the fact, that she’s got the most “NAME ID” or “INDENTIFICATION” of almost any “ELECTED OFFICIAL” of any ethnicity in America right now.

What about state Senator John Whitmire having picked up almost every imaginable endorsement already? I’m glad you asked that question. Endorsements don’t necessarily win elections, in my opinion. Someone like Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee could run a very competitive race for Mayor without any endorsements. How? Well, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, has her brand and doesn’t need anyone to cosign for her.

But Gilbert Garcia has s boatload of money – right? Well, someone like Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee doesn’t need to build her brand, so she doesn’t have to spend millions of dollars trying to get her name etched into the consciousness of local voters – they already know her. And on top of that, Houstonians already know what she’s about.

But former council member Amanda Edwards and former Harris County Clerk Chris Hollins are already in the race for Mayor of the City of Houston – what about them? Well, no offense, but Chris Hollins hasn’t done anything and needs to go sit down somewhere. And as for Amanda Edwards, she didn’t do anything significant during her time serving as an At-Large Council Member before abandoning her seat to run for the U.S. Senate back during the 2020 Democratic Party Primary and put on a dismal showing.

Truth be told if Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee were to enter the race for Mayor of Houston, both, Chris Hollins and Amanda Edwards would be compelled by many Black leaders to drop out of the race. In fact, according to one of my sources, Commissioner Rodney Ellis, and Mayor Sylvester Turner, are doing everything in their power to try and convince Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee to run.

At the end of the day, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee still has plenty of time to make up her mind. As I’ve already said, she already has a huge base of supporters. And on top of that, the official filing period to run for Mayor of the City of Houston doesn’t even open up until Saturday, July 22, 2023, and will remain open until 5:00 pm, on Monday, August 21, 2023.

But could Sheila Jackson Lee win the Tuesday, November 3, 2023, race for Mayor? I asked investigative reporter Wayne Dolcefino this question last week, and he said “YES” she could.

In case you don’t know him, Wayne Dolcefino headed up the 13 Undercover Unit at ABC13 KTRK-TV Eyewitness News for over 27 years. And focused most of his time working with the 13 Undercover investigative unit exposing public corruption, wasted taxpayer money, government malfeasance, and fraud. That being said, I trust Wayne’s opinion.

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, if she decides to run, wouldn’t run into a problem unless she faced off against Gilbert Garcia, or state Senator John Whitmire, in a December runoff.

I’m pretty confident that Congresswoman Lee could make a runoff, and more than likely I believe that she could be positioned as the front-runner heading into the runoff. Still, she would have trouble beating either Gilbert Garcia or state Senator John Whitmire in a December runoff, in my opinion. Why? Well, Republicans, can’t stand Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. And to be very blunt, some conservatives hate her with a passion.

So, if Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee decides to run for Mayor of the City of Houston, on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, she would lose in a runoff to either Gilbert Garcia or state Senator John Whitmire – that’s my professional opinion. That said, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, has been gaining traction in Washington D.C., over the last few years, and should stay in her lane.
