About Us Colbert/Ball Tax Service
Colbert/Ball Tax service was founded in Houston, TX, by first cousins Al Colbert and Yrejali (Ja Ja) Ball. The duo came up with the idea of starting their own tax preparation business during their senior year at Texas Southern University. Due to a fluctuating job market, the two business majors decided to brand what would later become one of the largest tax companies in the U.S. Colbert/Ball opened their door to their first location on January 2, 1995 in the Third-Ward area of Houston, TX. They processed over 270 returns that year, allowing them to upgrade to a professional corporate office centrally located near the Astrodome.
By 2000, Colbert/Ball expanded to four office locations and processed over 4,000 returns. After painstaking hard work followed success, Al Colbert and Ja Ja Ball started a franchise program. The program was designed to create opportunities for other entrepreneurs to own and operate their own Colbert/Ball Tax business.
In December, 2002, Colbert/Ball Tax Service was recognized by the distinguished Black Enterprise Magazine for having one of the best franchise opportunities, followed by Ebony Magazine in their February, 2003 edition, featuring Entrepreneurs 30 and under. In 2004, Black Enterprise Franchise 500 ranked Colbert/Ball Tax Service as the 59th fastest growing franchise system in the nation. By 2007, Colbert/Ball Tax Service reached their projected goal of 75,000. After, reaching their goal, they have taken a huge step toward becoming the fourth largest tax Preparation Company in the United States. Their focus for the next two years was to continue to expand through the Colbert/Ball Franchising opportunities program.
Currently Colbert/Ball Tax Service, with its corporate headquarters in Houston, Texas, has added over 350 locations in 28 states. Their success garnered CBTS the Pinnacle Award from the Houston Citizens Chamber of Commerce. CBTS is the fourth largest tax preparation company to franchise in America. This alone marks them as being among the elite of specialized financial services. The emblem symbolizing their success is visually located on top of their corporate location at, 2616 South Loop West, Houston, Texas, and exposed to thousands drivers daily. Colbert/Ball’s long-term goal is to compete and surpass the top three tax preparation companies in the United States. By 2015, Colbert/Ball Tax Service is expected to become a publicly traded company with several locations throughout the nation. We want to extend the opportunity of entrepreneurship amongst all.
