Carroll Sends His List of Requests to Harris County Democratic Party Chairwoman Lillie Schechter; Democrats Have A Lot of Work to Do

The Details of the 'Open Letter' Sent By Carroll G. Robinson to Harris County Democratic Party Chairwoman Lillie Schechter Back on Saturday, April 11, 2020, is Now Public

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

I totally agree with Carroll. However, more needs to be done! Carroll G. Robinson, Chairman of the Texas Coalition of Black Democrats (left) is on the right track in my opinion. Lillie Schechter, Chairwoman of the Harris County Democratic Party is all smiling and everything; but this lady has some serious challenges ahead of her as the Tuesday, November 3, 2020, general elections draw nearer. In case you don’t know, straight-ticket voting has been abolished in Texas. And unlike back in 2016, Democrats running countywide on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, will not enjoy a 70,367 straight-ticket voting advantage. Nor will the 2020 field of Democratic nominees enjoy the 105,158 straight-ticket voting advantage their fellow Democrats who ran countywide enjoyed back in 2018, when Beto O’Rourke and “BLACK GIRL MAGIC” drove Democrats to the polls in groves. Nope, Lillie Schechter will face a whole new set of challenges, and so far, she’s made several blunders that could cost her party much-needed votes when Tuesday, November 3, 2020, rolls around. If I were to give Lillie Schechter a grade on her performance right now, I would be forced to give her a “D” as it relates to her handling of race-related issues. For the life of me, I just can’t understand why she is making some of the moves she’s making. Instead of mobilizing her base, she’s basically taking hard-nosed stances that are turning some would-be Democratic voters off. None of us are completely certain how not having straight-ticket voting as an option is going to affect countywide races on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at this time. But what we do know, is that the number of undervotes is going to increase exponentially as voters scroll down their ballot on Election Day.

Senator Joe Biden, the Democratic nominee for President of the United State of America is pictured above with Carroll G. Robinson, Chairman of the Texas Coalition of Black Democrats. Sen. Biden received an astonishing 121,866 votes to capture 37.69% of the vote against a stellar field of Democratic Presidential hopefuls in Harris County, Texas back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020. The challenge going forward for Democrats will be to convince the 92,158 Democrats who cast their ballot for Bernie Sanders to return to the polls and "VOTE BLUE, NO MATTER WHO" on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. Lillie Schechter, Chairwoman of the Harris County Democratic Party must also find creative ways to convince the 47,459 Democrats who cast their ballot for Michael R. Bloomberg to vote for Democrats up and down the ballot. The same goes for the 35,891 Democrats in Harris County who cast the ballot for Elizabeth Warren; the 10,500 Democrats in Harris County who cast their ballot for Pete Buttigieg, and the 6,081 Democrats in Harris County who cast their ballot for Sen. Amy Klobuchar back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, as well.

CARROLL G. ROBINSON

April 11, 2020

Lillie Schechter
Chairwoman -- HCDP

Dear Chairwoman Schechter:

I am writing to request that you appoint a committee of party members and election law experts to review and make recommendations on improving the HCDP candidates' ballot application due diligence process, in light of recent controversies related to that process.

I would like to encourage the committee to look, at the very least, at residency verification issues, verifying that people filing for office are who they say they are and making sure people filing for Precinct Chair or any other office have not voted in a Republican primary or run for office as a Republican within the prior two years before attempting to file for office as a Democrat by filing for a place on the HCDP primary ballot.

It is also clear that the training process for volunteers, who assist HCDP with the candidates' ballot application process, needs to be evaluated to identify ways to improve the training especially as it relates to knowledge of filing fees and motorization of official documents.

The HCDP CEC should also consider adopting a rule to require individuals with knowledge of challenges to candidates' qualifications, at the time the candidate files for a place on the primary ballot, to file those challenges before the ballot printing deadline.

Thank you in advance for your prompt and thoughtful consideration of this request.

Sincerely,

Carroll G. Robinson

Carroll Has Solutions to a few of the Problems Facing Lillie Schechter and the Harris County Democratic Party

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

I totally agree with most of the requests put forth to Chairwoman Lillie Schechter in an “OPEN LETTER” dated Saturday, April 11, 2020, by Carroll G. Robinson. However, while forming committees, in general, is a good thing, who Chairwoman Lillie Schechter appoints to serve on these proposed committees is what I’m much more concerned about. But, I am going to reserve further comment on this matter until we see whether any of Carroll Robinson’s requests are implemented, or even taken seriously by the Harris County Democratic Party. But until then, Lillie Schechter and the Harris County Democratic Party had better get about the business of making sure that their party faithful, “VOTE BLUE – NO MATTER WHO,” on Tuesday, November 3. 2020.

Some of these women have moved on from the Harris County Democratic Party, but I believe that they could still be valuable resources. So, make no mistake about it, Lillie Schechter, Chairwoman of the Harris County Democratic Party (far right) has access to some of the best and brightest minds in the political game. Having access to women like Delilah Agho-Otoghile (bottom second from left), Ashleigh Matthews (top second from left), Amber Goodwin (bottom fourth from left), and Nisha Randle (bottom third from right) should make Lillie Schechter's life a whole lot easier as she grapples with the unique issues that lie ahead. The only question that remains is whether Lillie Schechter will utilize the creativity she has in her arsenal between now and the Tuesday, November 3, 2020, general election.

SKIPPING OVER DOWN BALLOT RACES IS A BIG PROBLEM THAT MUST BE ADDRESSED BY LILLIE SCHECHTER AND THE HCDP

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

What is an undervote? I’m glad you asked. An undervote occurs when a voter skips over a race on the ballot for one reason or another. How do undervotes affect races on the ballot? Well, during the last two major election cycles the straight-ticket voting advantage has been so skewed in favor of the Democrats in Harris County, Texas that undervotes didn’t matter that much. However, nobody knows with full certainty what’s going to happen on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, now that straight-ticket voting has been abolished in Texas. Take a look back at 2012, for instance. When President Barack Obama was running for re-election and being challenged by Sen. Mitt Romney, there were 587,044 ballots cast for President Barack Obama in Harris County, Texas. Comparatively speaking, there were 586,073 ballots cast for Sen. Mitt Romney. So, get this, with a total of 1,173,117 votes cast, President Barack Obama only beat Sen. Mitt Romney by a mere 971 votes in Harris County, Texas. So, without straight-ticket voting, who knows what would have happened. You have to remember, back in 2012, the straight-ticket voting contest was tight as well, 406,991 Democrats voted a straight-ticket, and 404,165 Republicans voted a straight-ticket in Harris County – that’s a differential of only 2,826 votes. So, come Tuesday, November 3, 2020, both major political parties in Texas must be on their game. Why? I’m about to tell you if you hold your horses. Back in 2016, when President Donald J. Trump and former secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton came through Harris County, Texas there were roughly 26,622 undervotes registered in the race for President of the United States. Let me make it a little clearer for you, a total of 1,312,112, voters cast a ballot in the race for President of the United States in Harris County, Texas back on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. Hilliary Clinton, the Democratic nominee received 707,914 votes, for 53.95% of the overall vote. Comparatively speaking, Donald J. Trump the Republican nominee only received 545,955 votes for 41.61% of the overall vote, with the remainder of the votes cast for an assortment of other presidential contenders. My research revealed that Donald J. Trump got fewer votes than any other candidate running countywide in Harris County, Texas back on Tuesday, November 8, 2016but that’s beside the point right now. What I want you to pay close attention to here is how the “UNDERVOTES” seem to increase as voters scroll down their ballot. Remember, I told you that the undervotes registered in the race for President of the United States stood at 26,622 – right? Well, by the time voters made their way down to the countywide judicial races the undervote tally fell in a range from 46,360 undervotes to 69,344 undervoteswhich could be a major problem if this occurs in the upcoming Tuesday, November 3, 2020, Presidential Election in Harris County, Texas. Why? Well, with straight-ticket voting being abolished in the state of Texas, the undervote tallies could perhaps be significantly higher -- maybe in the 100,000 to 200,000 range depending on what type of voter education initiatives are launched between now and Election Day in my opinion.

In case you don't know, Constable Chris Diaz received 5,122 votes back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in the Democratic Primary, according to the "Unofficial" election returns published by the Harris County Clerk.

Constable Sherman Eagleton is heading into the Tuesday, July 14, 2020, runoff election in the race for Harris County Constable Precinct 3 as the "FRONT-RUNNER" against former Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner Ken Jones. In case you don't know, Constable Sherman Eagleton received 10,008 votes back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in the Democratic Primary, according to the "Unofficial" election returns published by the Harris County Clerk.

Former Constable Ken Jones is heading into the Tuesday, July 14, 2020, runoff election in the race for Harris County Constable Precinct 3 as the "RUNNER-UP" against Constable Sherman Eagleton. In case you don't know, Ken Jones received 3,391 votes back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in the Democratic Primary, according to the "Unofficial" election returns published by the Harris County Clerk. However, in a recent turn of events, Eric Reed, Deborah Florus, and Michel (Poppy) Pappillion have all decided to throw their support behind Ken Jones. This could make the runoff showdown between Constable Sherman Eagleton and former Precinct 3 Constable Ken Jones one of the most intriguing races on the entire May 26th Democratic runoff ballot. Why? Well, at first glance it would appear that Constable Sherman Eagleton is the clear, and decisive "FRONT-RUNNER" heading into the runoff showdown. However, when you take into account that Eric Reed received 1,810 votes for 8.58% of the vote; Deborah Florus received 3,279 votes for 15.54% of the vote; Michael (Poppy) Pappillion received 913 votes for 4.33% of the vote, and Ken Jones himself received 3,391 votes for 16.07% of the vote, it isn't difficult to see that the "RUNOFF SHOWDOWN" between Constable Eagleton and Ken Jones won't be as lopsided as their Democratic Primary was back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020. Another key factor to pay close attention to is the fact that only 23,896 votes were cast back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in the race for Harris County Constable for Precinct 3. Why is this significant? Well, according to the Harris County Clerk's Office, there are 197,063 registered voters in Precinct 3 who could potentially turn out on Tuesday, May 26, 2020. So both Constable Sherman Eagleton (the current Constable for Precinct 3) and Ken Jones (the former Constable for Precinct 3) will both have their work cut out for them between now and the start of the "EARLY VOTING PERIOD" which begins on Monday, July 6, 2020, and ends on Friday, July 10, 2020, in Harris County, Texas.

Randal Newman is heading into the Tuesday, July 14, 2020, runoff election in the race for Harris County Constable Precinct 5 as the "FRONT-RUNNER" against Mark Alan Harrison. In case you don't know, Randal Newman received 23,525 votes back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in the Democratic Primary, according to the "Unofficial" election returns published by the Harris County Clerk.

Mark Alan Harrison is heading into the Tuesday, July 14, 2020, runoff election in the race for Harris County Constable Precinct 5 as the "RUNNER-UP" against Randal Newman. In case you don't know, Mark Alan Harrison received 18,560 votes back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in the Democratic Primary, according to the "Unofficial" election returns published by the Harris County Clerk.
