Former Prizefighter Eric Carr lost his mom Gwendolyn Joyce Carr and laid her to rest over the weekend. Eric Carr's mother and father were happily married for 50 years, and raised him to be the man of character, and integrity, he's evolved into today. Speaking of this loving mother, Carr says, "My mother always said, "Son, always be a man of your word. If you say you are going to do something, do it. Let your yeas be yeas and your nays be nays." AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "We must make it our business to start "PUTTING PEOPLE OVER POLITICS" going forward into the 2023 City of Houston Mayoral Election, the 2024 Democratic Party Primary, and 2024 Republican Party Primary. Our nation is at a serious crossroads, and a serious course correction is desperately needed in America."

Eric Carr Laid His Loving Mother to Rest Over the Weekend; In Other Happenings, Gilbert Garcia Interviewed With Fox 26

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

I’m very upset about what I personally witnessed over the weekend at the homegoing service of Gwendolyn Joyce Carr, the mother of my friend, and former professional prizefighter, Eric Carr, who also happens to be a local businessman.

When you really get down to it, upset is an understatement, but it’s one of only a handful of words that I find appropriate to explain the emotions I’m feeling right now. What an embarrassment!!!

What was Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee thinking? And how could Mayor Sylvester Turner show up at a funeral to give remarks and not even state the correct date?

I attended the funeral of a beloved woman on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at the Kashmere Gardens Church of Christ, that’s located at 4315 Leffingwell Street, on Houston’s north side.

There was a who’s who list of politicians in attendance to support Eric Carr, his brother, and two sisters. And things were going well, until “QUEEN SHEILA” showed up, and someone started shouting, “Houston Next Mayor,” from the crowd.

What is wrong with our people? Who would come to a funeral to promote themselves? I’m not sure, whether the person who was yelling about Shiela Jackson Lee’s candidacy for mayor was a plant at the funeral or not, but for future reference, to all politicians, a funeral service isn’t the place to make political speeches while families are mourning and grieving the loss of their loved one!!! Stop it!!!

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Mayor Sylvester Turner, Councilwoman Tarsha Jackson, State Rep. Senfronia Thompson, State Rep. Ron Reynolds, a representative for Constable Eagleton, and former HCC and HISD Trustee, Rhonda Skillern-Jones were just a few of the local leaders who attended the funeral for Eric Carr's mom.

Attorney “Downtown” Oliver Brown also stopped by to show his respects and issue his condolences to the grieving family.

Now, for the most part, the acknowledgments and condolences were heartfelt and sincere in my opinion. However, something seemed fake about Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee's remarks that made me question whether she's even as close to the Carr family as she claimed to be. And I wasn't the only one in attendance who saw through her act.

As I sat there in the back, I began hearing many of the African Americans in attendance start mumbling under their breath as soon as Congresswoman Lee walked into the funeral late, as usual. And when she took the podium, the mumblings grew even louder. I'm not sure, why people believe that Black folks love Sheila Jackson Lee so much.

“His name is Mark,” many family members quipped almost simultaneously, shaking their heads as Congresswoman Lee continued to misstate the name of Eric Carr’s brother (named Mark), who Congresswoman Lee continued to refer to as Matt, over and over again in her remarks.

Now, State Rep. Senfronia Thompson (HD-141) was very sincere as she delivered heartfelt recounts of her relationship with the Carr family. And State Rep. Ron Reynolds (HD-27), as always, was very sincere, as he recounted how close he and Eric Carr, have been for many years.

------------------------------------

As for Mayor Sylvester Turner, he couldn’t even get the date of the funeral right, as he proclaimed, March 31, 2023, as “Gwendolyn Joyce Carr Day” in the City of Houston. That sounded great, but Mayor Turner was a day late because Saturday (the date of the funeral) was April 1, 2023, and not March 31, 2023 – what a shame.

 ------------------------------------

For the record, I don’t have any personal animosity for Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee or Mayor Sylvester Turner, but I’ve just grown tired of seeing the same old washed-up politicians, continue to embarrass the Black Community, year after year, and continue to be voted back into public office, over and over again.

As I sat there, at the funeral of the beloved Gwendolyn Joyce Carr, I couldn’t help but feel embarrassed, for Eric Carr and his family. I’m sorry, what “QUEEN SHEILA” and “SLY” did on Saturday, April 1, 2023, was selfishly use the homegoing service of a beloved woman, as a platform to stroke their own egos.

“TIME FOR CHANGE.”

Life is short, and Houstonians must help Mayor Sylvester Turner, and his sidekick Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, enjoy the rest of their lives, by sending these two washed-up career politicians into their retirement years.

Personally witnessing Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, embarrass herself on that podium over the weekend, has caused me to question several things related to her ability to lead the fourth largest city in America.

Listen!!! It’s not time for Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, to come home to lead the City of Houston, into the future. Nope! Sheila would make a horrible mayor. And what Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee needs to be doing right now, is passing the torch, and coming home to spend time with her husband, Elwyn Lee, and her family.

  ------------------------------------

No way, no how, should the City of Houston switch hands from Mayor Sylvester Turner to Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. Who came up with this crazy idea anyways?

  ------------------------------------

“The American dream, there’s no better example than Houstonian Gilbert Garcia,” said Fox 26 Houston reporter Greg Groogan, in a segment of “What’s Your Point” that aired (yesterday) Sunday, April 2, 2023.

“From the humblest roots in south Texas, Garcia parlayed an Ivy League degree in Transformative Education on Wall Street into a Houston-based firm with $22 billion under management,” said Groogan, in his opening statement.

“These days in what he describes as an effort to give back, Garcia is offering his time, talent, and leadership to Houston with a bid to be the city’s first Latino Mayor," explained Groogan.

Greg Groogan went on to frame Gilbert Garcia as, “The kid from Corpus Christ who did really good.”

“Gilbert Garcia is a Texas original, who brings to the table a degree of financial expertise few can match,” stated Groogan.

“At the end of the day, the whole thing comes back to the finance of the city,” says Gilbert Garcia.

Now, according to Garcia, “If you don’t have the finances in order, you’re not going to have the room to do the things the citizens require.”

“What makes me special and unique is, I have a business person’s approach, and I’m not beholden to anybody,” Gilbert Garcia boldly proclaimed.

He went on to explain, “In other words, I don’t have any agreements – I wasn’t in the room when anything happened.”

“And so, I can look at things objectively and I’m willing to shake it up and make hard decisions,” said Garcia.

And if you ask me, Gilbert Garcia appears to be a breath of fresh air. And not because he’s Hispanic, but because Houston is headed toward a fiscal cliff, and the next CEO needs to be a real businessman and not a career politician.

“Garcia views the chance to be Houston’s “FIRST LATINO MAYOR” as a genuinely transformative opportunity,” said Groogan. “I think the first Hispanic mayor is going to do so much to uplift the self-esteem of “THE LATINO COMMUNITY” only good things can come from it,” Garcia explained.

“And I believe we can’t even measure how good,” he went on to say. And let Garcia tell it, “It’s time, and in Houston, it’s really time.”

Speaking of himself, he says,” Gilbert Garcia is a problem solver – I love Houston – I have the attributes to turn this city, and turn these things around, and have a vision, a much bigger vision.”

“I want Houston to be in the same breath of great cities in the world,” proclaims Garcia.

“And it’s time we recognize that it’s not normal that all of these departments keep getting raided and people are indicted,” he says.
