Dr. Pretta VanDible Stallworth Scores Major Victory For Harris County Democrats in Final Showdown of the 2017 Election Cycle

A few of the key people on the cover of this edition Houston Business Connections Magazine© are Dr. Pretta VanDible Stallworth (HCCS Trustee-Elect for District IX), Sheila Jackson Lee (Congresswoman for the 18th Congressional District of Texas), Borris L. Miles (State Senator for District 13), Al Green (Congressman for the 9th Congressional District of Texas), Alma Allen (State Rep. for House District 131), Rodney Ellis (Harris County Commissioner Precinct #1), Senfronia Thompson (State Rep. for House District 141), Larry V. Green (Councilman for District K), and Gilberto Hinojosa (Texas Democratic Party Chair), and Lillie Schechter (Harris County Democratic Party Chair). HBC MAGAZINE© REPORTS

In the final contest of the 2017 Election Cycle, Elizabeth Santos, Dr. Pretta VanDible Stallworth, and Sergio Lira all received the “STAMP-OF-APPROVAL” from voters in their respective districts. “Voter turnout was extremely low; but the voters who did go to the polls to vote – seems to have gotten it right,” says Aubrey R. Taylor, publisher of Houston Business Connections Magazine©. “When you look at the fact that the “OVERALL” combined voter turnout was only 7,474 ballots cast by “ABSENTEE” and “IN-PERSON” ballots; but the “OVERALL" combined potential voter turnout was 232,810 – you have to be a little concerned,” he says. “But even with that said, these races turned out exactly how they should have, given the registered voter demographics, candidate experience, and candidate preparedness,” Taylor explains.

THE RESULTS FOR THE HCCS TRUSTEE DISTRICT IX RUNOFF ELECTION

“The battle for HCCS District IX should not have ever even gone to a runoff,” says Taylor. “Our client Dr. Pretta VanDible Stallworth was the most qualified candidate in the race from the very beginning,” he states. “But somehow, due to a combination of things she ended up trailing the Republican Eugene “Gene” Pack back in the General Election on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 – But in my opinion, Dr. Stallworth didn’t panic and the runoff election voters were able to clearly identify the best candidate.”

Coming into the Saturday, December 9, 2017 Runoff Election, Dr. Pretta VanDible Stallworth was widely considered the underdog – but at the end of the night she was the victor! THE END RESULTS: Pretta VanDible Stallworth 1,357 votes for 71.84% of the vote. And Eugene “Gene” Pack 532 votes for 28.16% of the vote. In case you don’t remember, back on Tuesday November 7, 2017 in the General Election the results were a lot different. Eugene “Gene” Pack led all vote-getters with 3,522 back then. “I wonder what happened to all those General Election voters who supported Eugene Pack,” asks Taylor. I wonder if the “BRANDING SUPPLEMENT” published by Houston Business Connections Magazine©, to promote Dr. Pretta VanDible Stallworth in the runoff election made a difference?”

THE RESULTS FOR THE HISD TRUSTEE  DISTRICT I RUNOFF ELECTION

Gretchen Himsl was the underdog from the very beginning in the race for this predominantly Hispanic District. “The race for HISD Trustee for District I was Elizabeth Santos’ race to lose on Saturday, December 9, 2017 in the Runoff Elections says,” Taylor. “Himsl did the best she could, but in the end, the numbers just were not going to be there for her -- without a lot of help,” he explains.

Coming into the Saturday, December 9, 2017 Runoff Election, Elizabeth Santos was the clear and undisputed “FRONT-RUNNER” in the race for HISD Trustee for District I. In case you don’t remember, back in the Tuesday, November 7, 2017 General Election, Santos led all vote-getters with 3,985 votes for 44.78% of the vote. “The problem for Gretchen Himsl was this: if she could not finish ahead of Elizabeth Santos with Monica Flores Richart (another Hispanic female) in the race, she sure wasn’t going to be able to beat Santos in a one-on-one matchup -- without some help,” says Taylor. RUNOFF ELECTION RESULTS: Elizabeth Santos 2,491 votes for 60.07% of the vote. And Gretchen Himsl 1,613 votes for 39.30% of the vote.

THE RESULTS FOR THE HISD TRUSTEE DISTRICT III RUNOFF ELECTION

In case you don’t remember, Jesse A. Rodriguez led all vote-getters back on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 in the General Election with 1,241 votes. Sergio Lira finished just behind Rodriguez in the four candidate field with 1,051 votes. “A lot of folks thought Rodriguez was the clear “FRONT-RUNNER” heading into the runoff; but Sergio Lira wasn’t having any of that,” says Taylor. In the end, to the victor goes the spoils, is what the old adage says. And on Saturday, December 9, 2017, Sergio Lira took full advantage of the low voter turnout to score a come-from-behind victory with, get this, 850 votes for 57.28% of the vote. Jesse A. Rodriguez, could only muster 634 votes for 42.72% of the vote in his losing effort. “Just in case anyone has forgotten, I told everybody prior to the Tuesday, November 7, 2017 General Election, to watch out for Sergio Lira in the race for HISD District III – did I get it right or what?”

THE HOUSTON CHRONICLE: "VanDible Stallworth, 59, has worked as an adjunct professor at Bellhaven College and guest professor at DeVry University. She also served on the HCC board from 1989-1993. Her position as chaplain for Senate 13 District PAC also demonstrates a healthy ability to reflect the values of her community. While we've expressed a cautiousness about VanDible Stallworth's belief that the board should be more involved with reviewing contracts, her education and experience makes her the best candidate in this race."

HARRIS COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY CHAIR LILLIE SCHECHTER AND DR. PRETTA VANDIBLE STALLWORTH

Democratic leaders are taking photos with Dr. Pretta VanDible Stallworth as Election Day approaches. In case you haven’t been paying attention, Dr. Pretta VanDible Stallworth has been seen recently with: Harris County Democratic Party Chair (Lillie Schechter), Texas Democratic Party Chair (Gilberto Hinojosa), Congresswoman for the 18th Congressional District of Texas (Sheila Jackson Lee), Congressman for the 9th Congressional District of Texas (Al Green), Mayor for the City of Houston (Sylvester Turner), State Representative for House District 141 (Senfronia Thompson), Harris County District Attorney (Kim Ogg), City of Houston Council Member (Larry Green – District K), City of Houston Council Member (Amanda Edwards – At-Large Position 4), and Harris County Attorney (Vince Ryan), just to name a few.

CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM DR. PRETTA VANDIBLE STALLWORTH

Dr. Pretta VanDible Stallworth recently asked for Houston Business Connections Magazine© to remind all HCC District IX voters that she is asking for the vote, prayers, and support of every registered voter who lives inside the HCC District IX boundaries without respect to their ethnicity, political affiliation, gender, gender identity, or socio-economic status. And yes, she's going to need every vote she can get to win this race on Saturday, December 9, 2017. Anything is possible, but, Pretta VanDible Stallworth trailed her Republican rival, Eugene “Gene” Pack by roughly 349 votes back on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, in the General Election – and that’s a lot of votes considering the turnout is expected to be low on Saturday, December 9, 2017. So, in case you didn’t see the actual results, the Republican, Eugene “Gene” Pack finished with 3,522 votes for 42.18%; Dr. Pretta VanDible Stallworth (the only Democrat in the race) finished with 3,173 votes for 38.00%, and the other Republican, David Jaroszewski (who was endorsed by the Houston Chronicle) finished last with 1,654 votes for 19.81%. “The problem Dr. Pretta VanDible Stallworth faces is that she was actually running against not one, but two Republicans back in the General Election,” explains Taylor. “So nobody really knows if the Republican voters who supported David Jaroszewski will come back out to vote for Eugene Pack on Saturday, December 9, 2017,” he says. “If they do, this will put Dr. Pretta VanDible Stallworth at an even greater disadvantage without specific help from the Harris County Democratic Party.”

"Don't forget that Election Day voting on Saturday, December 9, 2017 could be very close in the Runoff Election for HCC Trustee for District IX. So every vote will count!!!"
