AUBREY R. TAYLOR:  “This year we’re celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the “JUNETEENTH” holiday. In case you don’t know, “JUNETEENTH” is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. This holiday commemorates African American freedom and places great emphasis on education and achievement. This page emphasizes events taking place in Houston, Texas for  “JUNETEENTH” and the “4TH OF JULY”. However, it also highlights events taking place in Galveston, Missouri City, other parts of Texas, and beyond. The Fourth of July, or Independence Day, is a federal holiday that celebrates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.”
