Harris County Clerk Chris Hollins is perhaps under more scrutiny than every other Harris County, Texas “ELECTED OFFICIAL” right now. For the most part he seemed to be doing a pretty good job since taking over the position of County Clerk after Dr. Diane Trautman abruptly stepped down for supposed health reasons. But has County Clerk Chris Hollins now become a target? Is he walking around with an “X” on his back – placed there by folks who would go to any length to ruin him? Was the lawsuit filed against him in District Court on yesterday, Thursday, August 27, 2020, politically motivated? Who knows? Whatever the case, in his capacity as Harris County Clerk, we would like to applaud him for being able to strike a deal with the Houston Rockets to allow the use of the Toyota Center as a newly created voting location for the upcoming Tuesday, November 3, 2020, general election. On Thursday, August 27, 2020, the Houston Rockets and the Harris County Clerk’s Office released a joint statement announcing the use of the Toyota Center as a voting location for the Tuesday, November 3, 2020, general election according to published reports. What does this mean? Well, now any registered voter in Harris County, Texas will be able to vote at this massive arena where the Houston Rockets play during the early voting period, which begins on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, and ends on Friday, October 30, 2020. But not only that, any registered Harris County, Texas voter will also be able to cast their ballot at the Toyota Center on Election Day between the hours of 7 a.m. to 7. p.m. according to the published reports. According to Toyota Center general Manager Doug Hall, “Voting is an extremely important right which many have fought hard for throughout the years and we want to thank the Harris County Clerk Office for allowing the Rockets and Toyota Center to offer support.” That being said, I hope all of the talk about whose going to cheat with the “ABSENTEE BALLOTS” and whatnot will now subside – at least in Harris County, Texas. And if the United States Postal Service does their job, we should be able to have a fair election free of “ABSENTEE BALLOT HARVESTING” and people trying to gain an “UNFAIR ADVANTAGE” through devious means and practices. After all, if you ask me, sending out a bunch of “ABSENTEE BALLOTS” into the community, is a recipe for disaster anyways. And in my professional opinion, doing so, could work against the very candidates party bosses may be trying to help in Harris County, Texas. What am I talking about? I’m going to tell you if you hold your horses. In case you don’t know, Republicans in Harris County, Texas actually have a better “ABSENTEE BALLOT GAME” than Democrats in Harris County do – from an overall organizational standpoint. How can I say this? Well, I’ll give you a few examples from a few “KEY DOWN-BALLOT RACES” that will better help you understand where I’m coming from with this report. Back in the Tuesday, November 6, 2018, midterm election, there was a hot race for the United States Senate between Ted Cruz (Republican) and Beto O’Rourke (Democrat) where Beto O’Rourke received 52,094 absentee ballots, and Ted Cruz only received 44,267 absentee ballots – so the Democrat won that battle. However, look at what happened down-ballot – to the Governor’s race on the same day, Governor Greg Abbott (Republican) received 49,293 absentee votes, and Lupe Valdez (Democrat) only received 46,000 absentee ballots – so the Republican won that battle. But don’t stop there, look at what happened further the down-ballot in the District Court races in Harris County, Texas back in the 2018, midterm election, the Republican judicial candidate received more “ABSENTEE BALLOTS” than the Democratic judicial candidate in the races for the 55th Judicial District Court, the 113th Judicial District Court, the 180th Judicial District Court, the 183rd Judicial District Court, the 190th Judicial District Court, the 208th Judicial District Court, the 228th Judicial District Court, the 232nd Judicial District Court, the 248th Judicial District Court, the 262nd Judicial District Court, the 269th Judicial District Court, and the 281st Judicial District Court, and the 312th Judicial District Court – just to name a few. Also, let’s not forget that back on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, President Barack Obama got his hat brought to him in the “ABSENTEE BALLOT” category in Harris County, Texas. As a refresher, Gov. Mitt Romney (Republican) received 43,270 absentee ballots, and President Barack Obama (Democrat) only received 31,414 absentee ballots in Harris County, Texas when he was seeking re-election. And just in case you’re wondering, the results weren’t any better for President Obama back during his historic run enroute to becoming the first Black President of the United States of America. Back on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, in the “ABSENTEE BALLOT” category. Please keep in mind, Sen. John McCain also handed it to then Sen. Barack Obama in the “ABSENTEE BALLOT” category. In case you can’t remember, Sen. John McCain received 41,986 absentee ballots, and Sen. Barack Obama only received 24,503 absentee ballots. So, can you tell me again why people like Commissioner Rodney Ellis, and others are pushing to expand the “ABSENTEE BALLOT VOTING” in Harris County, Texas? It’s clear that Commissioner Rodney Ellis and other Democratic leaders in Harris County, Texas can’t be looking at the numbers? Why? Well, strictly by the numbers, I believe that the Republicans actually have a better “ABSENTEE BALLOT GAME” in Harris County, Texas. So, could it be that the people pushing for "EXPANDED ABSENTEE VOTING" has something else on their mind? Could they be planning to cheat or gain some sort of unfair advantage? Is there something going on behind-the-scenes that we can’t see? I’ve got my thoughts; but I’m going to stop right there for now. And to this end, I would implore all of the candidates who are running for office on the Tuesday, November 3, 2020, to refrain from trying to play around with the “ABSENTEE BALLOTS” in this election cycle. Again, I repeat, “DO NOT TRY TO SCREW AROUND WITH THE ABSENTEE BALLOTS” in the 2020 general election -- people are watching!!!
