Carroll G. Robinson Endorses Byrd over Jefferson-Smith, Evans Shabazz over Brailey, Carmouche over Kubosh in 2019 Council Races

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "Carroll G. Robinson has endorsed Dr. Carolyn Evan-Shabazz over Dr. Carla Brailey in the race for Houston City Council District D. However, Dr. Carly Brailey is the only candidate in the race for Houston City Council District D who is asking for "OUR" vote, prayers, and support at the time of this blog post. He also endorsed Alvin Byrd over Renee Jefferson-Smith in the race for Houston City Council District B. In case you don't know, Alvin Byrd, and Renee Jefferson Smith are the only two candidates in the Tuesday, November 5, 2019, race for Houston City Council District B who are asking for "OUR" vote, prayers, and support at this time."

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

We recently received a list of endorsements made by Carroll G. Robinson for the 2019 City of Houston General Election. I can’t say that I agree with all of Carroll’s selections, but some are pretty interesting. Perhaps the most interesting of all of his selections is the selection he made in the Houston City Council District B contest where he selected Alvin Byrd over Renee Jefferson Smith. In case you haven’t been following this race, Renee Jefferson Smith is perceived by many to be the clear and decisive front-runner in the Houston City Council District B race.

A BIG SURPRISE

Perhaps the biggest surprise for me came with his selection of Dr. Carolyn Evans-Shabazz over Dr. Carla Brailey, vice-chair of the Texas Democratic Party. Why is this a surprise? Well, nearly everybody I’ve talked to believes Dr. Carla Brailey is the clear front-runner in the race for Houston City Council District D. What is Carroll thinking? I wonder if he’s trying to shake things up a bit as early voting approaches on Monday, October 21, 2019. Or does Carroll G. Robinson believe that Dr. Carolyn Evans-Shabazz is a better choice than Dr. Carla Brailey in the District D race? Whatever the case, from what I can see, Dr. Carla Brailey, and Dr. Carolyn Evans-Shabazz both appear to be gaining momentum and separating themselves from the pack. Can you say runoff? As it stands right now, you are going to be hard-pressed to find any "OPEN-MINDED" strategist who does not believe that Dr. Carla Brailey and Dr. Carolyn Evans Shabazz are at the front of this crowded field of candidates vying for the Houston City Council District D seat. So, if you ask me, if Dr. Carla Brailey and Dr. Carolyn Evans-Shabazz continue to surge forward, we could very well see them face off in a very heated December 2019 runoff election.

A FEW OTHER SURPRISES

It was also surprising to see Carroll G. Robinson select Janaeya Carmouche over Michael Kobosh (incumbent) in the Tuesday, November 5, 2019, race for Houston City Council At-Large Position #3. And he also selected David Robinson (incumbent) over Willie Davis in the race for Houston City Council At-Large Position #2 – that surprised me. Especially since, Pastor Will Davis, forced councilman David Robinson to runoff when they faced off back in 2015.
