Democrat Sandra Peake defeats fellow Democrat Julia Maldonado in the 2014 Democratic Primary race for the 246th District Family Court in Harris County Texas

The race for the 246th District Family Court in Harris County between Sandra Peake and Julia Maldonado went down to the wire on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 in the Democratic primary.
Maldonado was the endorsed candidate in the race by Houston’s only daily newspaper. However, when all the ballots were in, 973 votes stood between Maldonado and her dream of becoming a judge.
Sandra Peake led this contest from start to finish. Peake, when the voting was complete had 23,261 votes for 51.07% of the vote. Maldonado, in her losing effort gained 22,288 votes for 48.93% of the vote to come up just short of what she needed to win.

LOOKING AHEAD TO NOVEMBER 4TH

Though Peake won her inner-party primary battle with Maldonado, her toughest challenge is going to be to figure out a way to beat Charley Prine, the winner of the Republican primary.

JUDGE YORK DIDN'T RUN FOR RE-ELECTION

The incumbent judge for the 246th District Family Court in Harris County is (Republican) Judge Jim York. Judge York did not seek re-election in the 2014 Republican primary. However, Charley Prine and Angelina D.A. Gooden decided to seek the Republican nomination. But at the end of the night, it would be Prine who would emerge victorious in this showdown. He easily defeated his fellow Republican by receiving more the 84,428 votes for 78.43% of the vote. Gooden received just 23,216 votes for 21.57% of the vote in her losing bid.

On Tuesday, November 4, 2014 (Democrat) Sandra J. Peake and (Republican) Charley Prine will battle to see who will be the next judge for the 246th District Family Court in Harris County.
