How the Money Game is Played in Local Politics to Garner Endorsements and Support from Black Pastors and Organizations

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: “Do you see that beautiful Black woman on the far left above? Well, that woman is a duly-qualified attorney by the name of Tamika “Tami” Craft. And in case you don’t already know, Democratic Party voters love Tamika “Tami” Craft and believe in her. Now, Tamika “Tami” Craft has a very good shot to become the first African American woman to serve on The Texas Court of Appeals for District 9 – if she wins the Democratic Party Primary nomination on Super Tuesday in 2022. But, I want you to know right now, Craft isn’t running for the Texas Court of Appeals for symbolic reasons – she’s actually duly-qualified to serve on this particular court. And that said, you would think that the entire Democratic Party on the local, statewide and national level would be rallying behind Tamika “Tami” Craft’s campaign – right? Well, that’s not the case from what I can see right now. Why? Well, please write down these names: Judge Ravi K. Sandill, Audrie Lawton, and Adoneca Fortier, and then pay very close attention as you read this report.”

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: “Many of you who are reading this report might not know this, but Tamika “Tami” Craft has been licensed to practice law since 2003. Her practice areas include, but are not limited to: civil, criminal, educational, family, labor/employment and probate law. Now, keep in mind that, these are the same types of cases fall under the jurisdiction of the 14th Court of Appeals. And just for the record, Tamika “Tami” Craft has written appellate briefs in different capacities and she’s licensed to practice law in the highest court in the land, the United States Supreme Court. Now, with that said, please keep in mind that, less than 10% of attorneys nationwide are licensed to practice law in the United States Supreme Court.”

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: “I really like Judge Ravi K. Sandill. He’s an excellent member of the judiciary. But what we all need to pay very close attention to going forward is how many “ENDORSEMENTS” he’s going to receive from Black Political Organizations, Pastors, and Elected Officials. And then we must pay close attention to whether or not he gains an “UNFAIR ADVANTAGE” over Tamika “Tami” Craft with the local (and) or state Democratic Party. Why? Well, because the Texas Democratic Party and the Harris County Democratic Party are supposed to stand-down and not interfere with primary elections.”

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "For those of you who don’t know, Adoneca Fortier works from inside of the Harris County Democratic Party as the “COALITION DIRECTOR” right now. And by serving in this capacity it gives her the inside track to certain candidates like Judge Ravi K. Sandill, who hired her as a consultant to do community outreach for his campaign."

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "The Baptist Ministers of Houston and Vicinity are top players when it comes to playing "THE MONEY GAME" in the Presidential, Midterm, and Municipal Elections throughout this region. So, if you are a candidate running for office in Harris County in the upcoming 2022 Midterm Election, 2023 City of Houston Municipal Election, or 2024 Presidential Election you had better get ready pay up -- I mean make your generous donations."

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "Do you see this cool cat right here? Well, Pastor Max A. Miller, Jr. the senior pastor of Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist Church, and this dude ain't playing no games when it comes to getting his money. Max is very serious about stacking up his dollars during political season. So, be on the lookout for him in the upcoming 2022 Midterm Election, 2023 City of Houston General Election, and the 2024 Presidential Election."

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "In case you don't know, Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist Church is listed as the "COMMITEE ADDRESS" for the Baptist Ministers' Association of Houston & Vicinity PAC. As you can see on the form below, Pastor Max A. Miller, Jr., is listed as the treasurer for their Political Action Committee."

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "That's a tight ride -- right? Well, Pastor Max A. Miller, Jr. the senior pastor of Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist Church actually owns one of these bad boys. In case you don't know, a Rolls-Royce -- GHOST, retails for more than $245.000.00 dollars brand new. A 2010 model of the Rolls Royce -- GHOST, like the one Pastor Max A. Miller has can still be worth nearly $100,000 dollars or more. *Example only!"

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "Being the pastor of a small congregation is nice. However, being a top player in the "POLITICAL GAME" and not telling anyone where the money that's being donating is being spent has a whole different set of benefits. Now, the Rolls-Royce -- GHOST, like the model that Pastor Max A. Miller, Jr., has is very nice on the inside. In case you don't know, the only people you normally see driving around in this type of high-end luxury vehicle are either billionaire businessmen, rappers, and entertainers. *Example only!"

Pastor Max A. Miller, owns a Rolls-Royce -- GHOST, that retails for more than $245,000.00 brand new. However, he also owns a Mercedes-Benz-Series: 550-Model:S that sells for a cool $92,900.00 dollars brand new. That being said, it is unclear if any of the missing money that was donated to the Baptist Ministers' Association of Houston & Vicinity, that they have no expenditures showing for, was used to purchase any of his high-end play toys. *Example only!

What Role Does Money Play When Deciding Which Candidates Can Run For Particular Seats in the Democratic Party?

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORT©

It’s common knowledge that eyes were rolling after the 2018 Midterm Elections, and the historic achievements made by African Americans in Harris County, Texas. It was rumored for a longtime that the Harris County Democratic Party Chairman at the time (Lillie Schechter) was going to step down and lead some sort of “POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE” to deal with the problem. What problem? Well, the perceived problem that there were too many African Americans on the bench in Harris County, Texas. But as I’ve always said, ‘rumors are just rumors’ and ‘actions speak louder than words’ in my opinion. Anyways, just like clockwork, a few months ago Lillie Schechter, did in fact relinquish her position as chairman of the Harris County Democratic Party. But that’s a story for another day.

THE MONEY GAME

It’s a fact that Judge Ravi K. Sandill, is a very good judge. It’s also a fact that Judge Ravi K. Sandill has way more money than Tamika “Tami” Craft, the Black woman who is standing in the way of his bid to become a member of Texas Court of Appeals. But that’s not the point I want to make today. What I’m here to do today to hip you to the game. What game? I’m talking about “THE MONEY GAME” that’s played behind the scenes in politics. Did you know that most of the Black judges can’t afford to make the “BIG MONEYDONATIONS” that other candidates can afford to make, and therefore they sometimes get shamed into having to lending their campaigns the money out of their salary to make payments to the Harris County Democratic Party’s “COORDINATED CAMPAIGN” efforts with little to no help from any donors? And did you know that Black women like Adoneca Fortier who currently serves as the “COALITION DIRECTOR” for the Harris County Democratic Party and many others aren’t really doing anything whatsoever to help them raise funds? And on top of that, people like Adoneca Fortier, and Audrie Lawton – when she was the Secretary for the Harris County Democratic Party basic lined their own pockets as consultants with little to no transparency? But don’t take my word for it. Over the course of the coming months, I’m going to layout “THE MONEY GAME” and show you exactly what “OUTREACH TO THE COMMUNITY” means in Harris County politics. But for now, check out how two Black woman who were serving as Harris County Democratic Party Officials (at the time) lined their pockets by working as consultants for Judge Ravi K. Sandill at the same time.

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "I would caution every Democrat who plans on voting in the race for Justice, 14th Court of Appeals District for Place 9, to think twice before choosing sides between these two duly-qualified Democrats. Look, money can't vote! Sure, Judge Ravi K. Sandill has more money in his campaign war chest than any other judge right now; but I've never seen a dollar bill cast a vote in an election. Well, at least not literally. Anyways, as it stands right now, Judge Ravi K. Sandill has $620,400.85 dollars cash on hand, according to his most recent campaign finance report. Comparatively speaking, Attorney Tamika "Tami" Craft only has $12,428.68 cash on hand. But, like I've said many times before, money does not vote -- people do!"

A Huge Test Lies Ahead in 2022 on “Super Tuesday” for Democrats Whereas Judge Sandill and Tamika “Tami” Craft are Concerned

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

Look don’t believe the hype!!! Nobody is unbeatable. On any given day, any candidate can be beaten. I don’t care how much money a candidate may have in the bank. I don’t care how many endorsements a candidate may have acquired. At the end of the day, God Almighty is the controller of outcomes. It is God Almighty who has the power to turn the hearts of voters wherever He chooses. How do I know this? Well, PROVERBS 21:1 says, “The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.” So, if the heart of the king is in the hand of the LORD, then the heart of the Democratic voters who live in Austin County, Brazoria County, Chambers County, Colorado County, Fort Bend County, Galveston County, Grimes County, Harris County, Waller County, and Washington County can also be turned toward Tamika “Tami” Craft in the race for the 14th Court of Appeals on “Super Tuesday” if God so chooses to do so. Now, I understand that Judge Ravi K. Sandill has $620,400.00 dollars in his campaign coffers. That's fine and dandy! But money does not vote – people do! Did you hear me? MONEY SITTING IN THE BANK CAN’T VOTE!

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "I believe that Attorney Tamika "Tami" Craft is well able to do and achieve all that God has for her to achieve on "Super Tuesday" in the upcoming 2022 Democratic Party Primary race for Justice, 14th Court of Appeals District, Place 9."

Message from Tamika “Tami” Craft to Democratic Voters

"Several months ago I attended a church where TD Jakes preached and part of his message was “That thing that you’re struggling with stop struggling and OWN IT!”

After losing by less than 1% in the general election in November of 2020, I struggled with rather I would run for a district court or make another run for an open Court of Appeals seat.

Today, and after much prayer and discussion with my family (the only opinions who matter), I have decided to stop struggling and run for the 14th Court of Appeals, Place 9 instead of the 189th Civil District Court. I “Own It!”

When I win, I will be the first African American to serve on the 14th Court of Appeals."

WE CAN WIN THIS TIME

"I have been a licensed attorney since 2003 having practiced, including, but not limited to: civil, criminal, educational, family, labor/employment and probate law. The same type of cases will be within my jurisdiction as a Justice on the 14th Court of Appeals. I have written appellate briefs in different capacities and I am licensed in the highest Court in the land, the United States Supreme Court. Less than 10% of attorneys nationwide are licensed in the United States Supreme Court.

Though death penalty cases will not be within my jurisdiction, I have been extensively involved in a death penalty case and attended an execution in 2005 in Huntsville, Texas. I, Tamika "Tami" Craft am qualified to be more than a Judge, I am qualified to be a Justice. Therefore, I am running to be the first African American Justice on the 14th Court of Appeals, Place 9."

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "As it stands right now, Judge Ravi K. Sandill doesn't look too overly concerned in the photo above. However, he's going to have his work cut out for him, when he faces off against Attorney Tamika "Tami" Craft, on "Super Tuesday" in the 2022 Democratic Party Primary race for Justice, 14th Court of Appeals District, Place 9, if you ask me. Now, don't get me wrong, Judge Sandill has achieved a lot for his people. After all, he's the first judge of South Asian descent to ever be elected to a judicial bench in Texas, according to his website. And that's a major accomplishment that should be applauded. However, if elected, Attorney Tamika "Tami" Craft would become the first African American judge to sit on the 14th Court of Appeals -- which would also be a major accomplishment and historic moment for us as a people."

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "I've always liked Judge Ravi K. Sandill. He's been one of my favorite judges to watch for a very long time. Judge Ravi Sandill, and his wife Kelly, have a beautiful son named Asher who attends public school."

MEET JUDGE SANDILL

Ravi K. Sandill is a Texan, husband, dad, and cancer survivor, who is running for the 14th Court of Appeals. Since 2009, Ravi has served as Judge of the 127th State District Court in Harris County. Ravi is the first-ever District Court Judge in Texas of South Asian descent.

Grounded in Service

Judge Sandill is from a military family. His father, Retired Lt. Col. Brij Sandill, served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force for a total of 28 years. Ravi spent most of his childhood in Texas and graduated from high school at R.A.F. Lakenheath in England. He earned a degree in government from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a founding member of the Central Texas Model United Nations. During his time at UT, Ravi served as a summer intern for President Bill Clinton’s Council of Economic Advisors, and he traveled extensively for The White House’s Advance Office.

Ravi went on to earn his law degree from the University of Houston’s Law Center, where he was an active participant in UH’s Moot Court team and an editor on the Houston Journal of International Law.

Private and Public Sector Experience

After graduating law school, Ravi worked as a briefing attorney for Murry Cohen, Senior Justice on Texas’s First District Court of Appeals. Judge Sandill also spent a number of years in private practice where he focused on commercial, appellate, and trade secret litigation. He represented both plaintiffs and defendants in civil litigation and also did some criminal defense work.

As current Judge of the 127th, which handles civil cases, Judge Sandill has tried over 200 cases and has disposed of over 15,000 matters. He has consistently received high ratings among lawyers in Harris County and was easily reelected to a fourth term as judge in November 2020. Judge Sandill is the only civil district court judge who handles all the cases filed in his Court, including seizure/forfeiture cases and tax cases.

Overcoming Adversity

Soon after entering private practice, Ravi was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a cancer of the blood cells. After undergoing initial chemotherapy, cancer returned six months later and Ravi underwent additional chemotherapy, radiation, and a stem-cell transplant. Ravi has been cancer-free for over seventeen years and is forever grateful to the doctors and nurses who treated him in the Texas Medical Center.

Giving Back

Judge Sandill is aware of the privilege and honor of serving the public in a judicial position and works to give back both to the legal community and to the people of Harris County in every way possible. He is a frequent speaker on legal topics at conferences throughout Texas and the nation. Currently, Judge Sandill serves on the advisory board of iSTEM an educational program that reinforces the need to better prepare the next generation in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math. Judge Sandill is an active participant in the Youth Leadership Program and places two high school students every year into an internship program with his Court. For six years, Judge Sandill has also been active in the Minority Opportunities in the Legal Profession Committee and takes interns from that program.

Ravi and his wife Kelly, a partner at Hunton Andrews Kurth, LLP, are also active in their community. Ravi served as a Board Trustee for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society’s Gulf Coast Chapter. He is a Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum (Class 34) and a Senior Fellow of Leadership Houston (Class 32). Judge Sandill serves on the Board of the American Leadership Forum – Gulf Coast Chapter and on the Board of the University of Houston Law Center’s Alumni Association.

Judge Sandill is a Fellow of both the Texas Bar Foundation and the Houston Young Lawyers’ Foundation. He has served as co-chair of numerous Houston Bar Association Committees including the Minority Opportunities in the Law Profession Committee, which received a President’s Award in 2013. In 2015, Judge Sandill was named an Extraordinary Minority by the publication Texas Lawyer. The Hispanic Bar Association of Houston named Judge Sandill, The Trial Judge of the Year.

Ravi, Kelly, and their son Asher live in central Houston, where Asher attends public school.

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

Make no mistake about it, who the people of Harris County, Texas choose to give another term to in 2022 must be about substance, job performance, judicial temperament, competence, and whether or not our members of the judiciary are following the law with their rulings. And that being said, in 2022, it is incumbent upon the voters of Harris County to evaluate the job performance of each and every sitting "ELECTED OFFICIAL" on a case-by-case basis and not as a group based on their political party affiliation, ethnicity, or gender.
