Judge Maldonado, Judge Sandill, Judge Engelhart Judge Schaffer, and Judge Carter May Face Uncertain Futures

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

Democrat infighting in the upcoming Tuesday, March 5, 2024, Democratic Party Primary could erase the gains made by local Democrats in Harris County, Texas throughout the last few major election cycles if Democrats aren’t careful.

Super Tuesday (March 5, 2024), could be a day of reckoning in Harris County, Texas. Especially for several local Democrat incumbents who have drawn challengers. That being said if you think back to the 2022 Midterm Election, a total of (12) twelve Democratic judges lost their benches to inner-party rivals.

However, when it came time to face off against Republicans, it was only “BLACK DEMOCRAT JUDICIAL CANDIDATES” who suffered defeats to their Republican opponents – but why?

If Democrats are “VOTING BLUE NO MATTER WHO” it doesn’t seem plausible that every Democrat judicial candidate running countywide, except for (4) four African Americans would win in Harris County, Texas during any given election cycle. However, that’s what happened back during the 2022 Midterm Election.

How did Judge Ronnisha Bowman (Black), attorney Porsha Natasha Brown (Black), attorney Gemayel L. Haynes (Black), and attorney Je’Rell A. Rogers (Black) lose, when all of the other Democratic judicial candidates running countywide won back during the 2022 Midterms?

“RUNNING WHILE BLACK.”

If you want to know the truth, there’s been something very strange happening in down-ballot races where “BLACK JUDICIAL CANDIDATES” are concerned since the days of “BLACK GIRL MAGIC” when 19 Black female judicial candidates took the world by storm in Harris County, Texas, back during the historic 2018 Midterm Election.

Not sure what I am talking about? Well, since the historic 2018 Midterm Election, African American Democratic judicial candidates have been defeating everyone in their path, and this has angered some folks – especially some local Democrats.

To be even more blunt, the success of Judge Erica Hughes, and her fellow members of “BLACK GIRL MAGIC” have pissed some folks off in Harris County, Texas.

Do you know her?

Judge Ericka Hughes the former presiding judge for Harris County Criminal Court at Law #3, is one of the most honorable and trustworthy people I know. Yes, she was part of the “BLACK GIRL MAGIC” phenomenon, but she is also a duly qualified, lifelong Democrat – through and through.

That’s why I was so surprised to learn that Judge Mike Engelhart, the presiding judge for the 151st Civil District Court in Harris County, Texas was (through his lawyers), accusing Judge Erica Hughes of forging signatures and committing other criminal acts to get onto the upcoming Tuesday, March 5, 2024, Democratic Party Primary ballot.

Is the honorable Judge Mike Engelhart hitting his opponent, Judge Erica Hughes below the belt?

Judge Mike Engelhart (Democrat), has accused his Democratic Party Primary opponent, Judge Erica Hughes of forging (or having her signatures forged), to get into the upcoming Tuesday, March 5, 2024, Democratic Party Primary race for the 151st Civil District Court, in Harris County, Texas.

“BELOW THE BELT.”

Something very suspicious happened in Harris County, Texas on Monday, January 1, 2024. “I am SHOCKED,” said Judge Erica Hughes in an email that was sent to attorney Geoffrey Alan Berg in the matter of Engelhart versus Doyle.

“You have lied to the ancillary court,” said Judge Ericka Hughes.

She went on to say, “You told the ancillary Judge that I was “unavailable” for a phone conference. That was a lie.”

“I was emailing you all day,” explained Judge Hughes.

Judge Hughes said, “It explains why you never answered my questions about who you were talking to at the ancillary.”

“Your proposed order has Mr. Doyle or Judge Hughes (me) taking Judge Engelhart’s deposition today,” she states, before asking, “Has that already happened as well?”

Her email to attorney Berg also states, “This ex parte contact with the Court is unethical and casts a shadow on the client you represent who is a sitting judge,” said Judge Hughes, referring to Judge Mike Engelhart, the presiding judge for the 151st Civil District Court.

“The fact that Mr. Doyle’s lawyers were complicit in this and also never responded to my emails and never advised me of the hearing is conclusive proof of the collusion and that this is nothing but a “friendly” lawsuit where both Judge Engelhart and Mr. Doyle are on the same side,” explained Judge Erica Hughes, who is seeking to unseat Engelhart in the upcoming Tuesday, March 5, 2024, Democratic Party Primary.

Judge Hughes went on to declare, “I have all of the emails that we exchanged yesterday.”

“No wonder you never responded during the critical time of 2:15 p.m.” But she wasn’t done! “According to the court clerk, that was approximately the time you were secretly meeting with the ancillary Judge who I now learned was Judge McFarland.”

Judge Erica Hughes went on to tell attorney Berg, “I cannot imagine she is going to be happy about you lying to her and not showing her my numerous emails to you yesterday.”

“I also think that she will be less than pleased at the acquiescence in such deception by Mr. Doyle and his lawyers,” she proclaimed.

She went on to say, “This is really below the line. I am attaching the communication so the Court can see what you have done.”

“CLOSING THOUGHTS.”

I rushed to the Harris County Civil Courthouse (yesterday) on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, and sat in on 3:30 p.m., “TRO HEARING” that took place before Judge Jaclanel McFarland, the presiding judge for the 133rd Civil District Court. But I ended up leaving before the proceedings were concluded.

That being said, I’m not sure where things are headed as it relates to Judge Erica Hughes remaining on the ballot. However, I can tell you with full assurance that I am very disappointed in what I saw playing out yesterday (Tuesday, January 2, 2024), in the 133rd Civil District Court.

For the record, I have always held Judge Mike Engelhart, the presiding judge, for the 151st Civil District Court in high regard, but accusing Judge Erica Hughes of forging signatures to get on the ballot seems a little absurd.

All of that being said, if Judge Erica Hughes remains on the ballot, it’s highly plausible that she, Denise Brown, Takasha Francis, Lema May Mousilli, and Lillian Henny Alexander could give the incumbent Democrat judges they're seeking to unseat a run for their money on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, in the upcoming Democratic Party Primary for Harris County, Texas.
