JUDGE-ELECT TONYA JONES DEFEATED ATTORNEY ROGER BRIDGWATER; STRAIGHT-TICKET VOTING WAS NOT A FACTOR IN JONE'S VICTORY
In case you don’t know, Judge-Elect Tonya Jones would have still defeated Attorney Roger Bridgwater in the race for Judge, County Criminal Court at Law No. 15 – even without the 104,698 straight-ticket voting cushion she received from Democratic voters in Harris County, Texas back on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, in the midterm election. Here’s why: Tonya Jones received 651,162 overall votes. When you subtract the 514,758 straight-ticket votes, you come up with 136,404 votes. Comparatively speaking, if you subtract the 410,060 straight-ticket votes, Attorney Roger Bridgwater received from his overall vote total of 526,808 you come up with 116,748 votes. So, in essence, even if you stripped away the straight-ticket votes received by Judge-Elect Tonya Jones and Attorney Roger Bridgwater, she would have still defeated him by approximately 19,656 votes back on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, in the midterm election in my opinion.

So, to be sure, in this “YEAR OF NOW” Lina Hidalgo at the very least has a puncher’s chance to break through – but other people of color will have to turn out for her in overwhelming numbers for her to have a shot at unseating Judge Ed Emmett.

In Boston, six women of color were elected to Boston’s city council. And over in Virginia, Danica Roem became the first openly transgender person ever to be elected to serve in the state legislature by beating a 13-term incumbent. Could Lina Hidalgo be the one? Mayor Allen Owen is Missouri City's 10th mayor since the city's incorporation in 1956. Mayor Owen and his family have lived in Missouri City more than 36 years. He continues to dedicate much of his time and expertise towards the development of a community where he and his wife of 46 years, Jane, raised their three children.
Mayor Owen has served as mayor since his election to that position in 1994. Prior to that time he was a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission for five years and a City Council member for eight years, including serving as mayor pro-tem.
Mayor Owen earned degrees from Southern Methodist University's Graduate School of Finance and Banking and from Stephen F. Austin State University.
