Five Democratic Women Who Defied the Odds By Unseating Male Democratic Judges Back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 in Harris County

Attorney Dawn Rogers (top left) unseated Judge Steven Kirkland; Attorney Jeralynn Manor (top middle) unseated Judge Larry Weiman, Attorney Ana Martinez (top right) unseated Judge Randy Roll, Attorney Natalia Cornelio (bottom left) unseated Judge George Powell, and Attorney Brittanye Morris (bottom middle) unseated Judge Daryl Moore. However, a few days after Attorney Brittanye Morris defeated Judge Daryl Moore, his husband Mark Leon Smith began searching for a way to have the election overturned. Long story short, now Lillie Schechter, the Harris County Democratic Party Chair, has allegedly already decided to declare Atttorney Brittanye Morris ineligible and disenfranchise the 151,780 Democratic voters who cast their ballot for Morris over Judge Daryl Moore back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in the Democratic Party primary race for Judge, 333rd Civil District Court in Harris County.

The Practice of Selectively Casting Ballots in Democratic Races Must Be Discontinued in 2020; Does “Vote Blue No Matter Who” Apply to All Races involving Democrats?

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

Let’s get one thing straight right now, STRAIGHT-TICKET VOTING HAS BEEN ABOLISHED in the state of Texas. So, the biggest challenge Democrats and Republicans are going to face in Texas is going to be getting their voters to make their way down the ballot selecting the name of every candidate with a “D” in front of their name if they're a Democrat, and an “R” in front of their name if they're a Republican. So, candidates will have to hold their respective political parties to task on this. Why? Well, undervotes are going to be a major issue on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. What is an undervote? I’m glad you asked. An undervote occurs when a voter skips over a race on the ballot for one reason or another. How do undervotes affect races on the ballot? Well, during the last two major election cycles the straight-ticket voting advantage has been so skewed in favor of the Democrats in Harris County, Texas that undervotes didn’t matter that much. However, nobody knows with full certainty what’s going to happen on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, now that straight-ticket voting has been abolished in Texas. Take a look back at 2012, for instance. When President Barack Obama was running for re-election and being challenged by Sen. Mitt Romney, there were 587,044 ballots cast for President Barack Obama in Harris County, Texas. Comparatively speaking, there were 586,073 ballots cast for Sen. Mitt Romney. So, get this, with a total of 1,173,117 votes cast, President Barack Obama only beat Sen. Mitt Romney by a mere 971 votes in Harris County, Texas. So, without straight-ticket voting, who knows what would have happened. You have to remember, back in 2012, the straight-ticket voting contest was tight as well, 406,991 Democrats voted a straight-ticket, and 404,165 Republicans voted a straight-ticket in Harris County – that’s a differential of only 2,826 votes. So, come Tuesday, November 3, 2020, both major political parties in Texas must be on their game. Why? I’m about to tell you if you hold your horses. Back in 2016, when President Donald J. Trump and former secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton came through Harris County, Texas there were roughly 26,622 undervotes registered in the race for President of the United States. Let me make it a little clearer for you, a total of 1,312,112, voters cast a ballot in the race for President of the United States in Harris County, Texas back on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. Hilliary Clinton, the Democratic nominee received 707,914 votes, for 53.95% of the overall vote. Comparatively speaking, Donald J. Trump the Republican nominee only received 545,955 votes for 41.61% of the overall vote, with the remainder of the votes cast for an assortment of other presidential contenders. My research revealed that Donald J. Trump got fewer votes than any other candidate running countywide in Harris County, Texas back on Tuesday, November 8, 2016but that’s beside the point right now. What I want you to pay close attention to here is how the “UNDERVOTES” seem to increase as voters scroll down their ballot. Remember, I told you that the undervotes registered in the race for President of the United States stood at 26,622 – right? Well, by the time voters made their way down to the countywide judicial races the undervote tally fell in a range from 46,360 undervotes to 69,344 undervoteswhich could be a major problem if this occurs in the upcoming Tuesday, November 3, 2020, Presidential Election in Harris County, Texas. Why? Well, with straight-ticket voting being abolished in the state of Texas, the undervote tallies could perhaps be significantly higher -- maybe in the 100,000 to 200,000 range depending on what type of voter education initiatives are launched between now and Election Day in my opinion.

The Harris County Democratic Party is located at 4619 Lyons Avenue in Houston, Texas. Their phone number is (713) 802-0085. According to their website, Democrats feel like they are The Blue Heart of Texas --- "With more than 4.5 million residents, Harris County, Texas, is the third-most populous county in the U.S. Houston, is the fourth largest and most diverse city in the nation. The people of Harris County speak more than 145 different languages and come from every corner of the globe. We are an international hub for trade, industry, innovation and the arts, and although we may live in a red state (for now), Harris County is decidedly blue."

THE HARRIS COUNTY DEMOCRATS ARE AT A VERY SERIOUS CROSSROADS HEADING INTO THE NOVEMBER 2020 GENERAL ELECTION

Make no mistake about, the phrase, “Vote Blue, No Matter Who” sounds good. It's catchy, one of those gingles that will stick with you – once it's ingrained into your consciousness. But are all Democratic voters casting their ballot for every Democrat as they navigate their way down their ballot? To answer this question I took a look at five recent Democratic Party primary races that have generated a lot of attention since five sitting Democratic judges (four white and one African American) were all ousted from their respective benches back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in Harris County, Texas. The race for Judge, of the 80th Civil District Court involved Attorney Jeralynn Manor seeking to unseat Judge Larry Weiman. The race for Judge, of the 179th Criminal District Court involved Attorney Ana Martinez seeking to unseat Judge Randy Roll. The race for Judge, of the 333rd Civil District Court involved Attorney Brittanye Morris seeking to unseat Judge Daryl Moore. And the race for Judge, of the 351st Criminal District Court involved Natalia “Nata” Cornelio seeking to unseat Judge George Powell. And the race for Judge, of the 334th Civil District Court involved Attorney Dawn Deshea Rogers seeking to unseat Judge Steven Kirkland.

Democrats Must Do a Better Job at Making Sure that the "Vote Blue No Matter Who" mantra Applies to Every Race?

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

All five of the judicial races I review involved one woman running against one man – so these were all straight-up races with no chance of a runoff occurring in any of the races. But why was there such a disparity in terms of the number of votes each woman received? Aren’t all Democrats created equal? Does the ethnicity of the female Democrats make a difference? Are Black women being intentionally skipped over by some Democratic voters? And if so, why? Is it possible to identify which Democrats are skipping over Black candidates? Can Black candidates count on the full support of every Democratic voter on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, in the general election? Should the Black community launch a voter education and empowerment initiative? Look, the truth of the matter is this, for years and years and years, the Black community has been blindly, and I must admit loyally, supporting the Democratic Party in these United States of America – and this includes Harris County, Texas. But sometimes, I can’t help but wonder if the Black community even realizes that no Black/African American has ever been elected county chair for the Harris County Democratic Party. Now look, I am not trying to excite a riot or anything like that. Anyone who knows me, fully understands that I hate delving into discussions race. However, with several recent moves made in the Harris County Democratic Party, someone has to take a critical look at what’s going on. And to this end, since I haven’t seen anyone step up to try and do this – I GUESS THAT LEAVES ME!!! Why? Well, you have to remember that the process of walking into a voting booth in the state of Texas and casting a straight-ticket ballot has been abolished. So, to ensure that we don’t run into a situation where every Democrat is elected but us, we must take a critical look at the way Democrats are voting as they move down their ballot. Why is this important? Well, it’s important because on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, without straight-ticket voting, every Democratic voter will need to go down their ballot and select the names of every Democratic candidate on the ballot. Now, whether or not every Democrat is going to do this remains to be seen. But that’s a story for another day!

Judge Randy Roll was unseated by Attorney Ana Martinez back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in the Democratic Party Primary race for Judge, 179th Civil District Court, in Harris County, Texas.

Attorney Ana Martinez unseated Judge Randy Roll in the Democratic Party Primary race for Judge, 179th Civil District Court back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020. Due to the fact that no Republican chose to run for the 179th Civil District Court bench, Attorney Ana Martinez will become a member of the judiciary in January of 2021.

MARTINEZ RECEIVED 197,930 VOTES BACK ON TUESDAY, MARCH 3, 2020

The race for Judge, of the 179th Civil District Court was the most lopsided of the five races I studied. Attorney Ana Martinez won every phase of the contest between her and Judge Randy Roll by huge margins. She won the “ABSENTEE BALLOT” phase of the election by receiving 17,385 Democratic votes. According to the “OFFICIAL” results made public by the Harris County Clerk’s Office back on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, Judge Randy Roll only received 6,085 absentee ballot votes. In the “EARLY VOTING” phase of the election, Attorney Ana Martinez received an astonishing 72,042 early votes. As for Judge Randy Roll, well, he could only muster 19,368 early votes. Election Day voting wasn’t even close. I mean, Attorney Ana Martinez racked up 108,503 votes on Election Day alone, while Judge Randy Roll, well, he only received 24,754 in-person votes on Election Day. So, when it was all said and done, Attorney Ana Martinez received 197,930 votes for 79.77% of the vote. By comparison, Judge Randy Roll only managed to convince 50,207 Democrats to cast their ballot for him.

Judge George Powell came up short in his quest for re-election back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in the Democratic Party Primary race for Judge, 351st Criminal District Court.

Attorney Natalia "Nata" Cornelio unseated Judge George Powell in the Democratic Party Primary race for Judge, 351st Criminal District Court back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020. She will now face off against Alrene Hecht (Republican) on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, in the Presidential Election.

CORNELIO RECEIVED 158,098 VOTES BACK ON TUESDAY, MARCH 3, 2020

Natalia “Nata” Cornelio went on to defeat Judge George Powell by a substantial margin in their Tuesday, March 3, 2020, Democratic Party primary meeting in the race for Judge, of the 351st Criminal District Court in Harris County, Texas. While Judge George Powell was able to win the “ABSENTEE BALLOT” phase of the election, in the end, his challenger was able to get away from him with a strong “EARLY VOTING” showing at the polls. When it was all said and done, Natalia “Nata” Cornelio received 158,098 Democratic votes for 63.82% of the vote. As for Judge Powell, he accomplished a lot along the way, just to remain on the ballot, but unfortunately, he came up significantly short in his re-election bid. In case you don’t know, Judge Powell only received 89,633 votes, for 36.18% of the vote.

Judge Daryl Moore was unseated by Attorney Brittanye Morris back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in the Democratic Party Primary race for Judge, 333rd Civil District Court, in Harris County, Texas.

Attorney Brittanye Morris unseated Judge Daryl Moore in the Democratic Party Primary race for Judge, 333rd Civil District Court back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020. Due to the fact that no Republican chose to run for the 333rd Civil District Court bench, Attorney Brittanye Morris should become on her way to becoming a member of the judiciary in January of 2021. However, in a very unfortunate set of circumstances, Harris County Democratic Party Chair Lillie Schechter has allegedly decided to deny this young Black woman her dream of becoming a judge by declaring her ineligible.

MORRIS RECEIVED 151,780 VOTES BACK ON TUESDAY, MARCH 3, 2020

A lot of folks have underestimated Attorney Brittanye Lashay Morris in my opinion. Sure, she’s young. Sure she’s beautiful. Sure, she’s a little green when it comes to the politics thing. But make no mistake about it – SHE’S A FIGHTER!!! And, if you ask me, I believe she’s on the verge of having her name written in the annals of American history – that is, unless Harris County Democratic Party Chair Lillie Schechter is allowed to disenfranchise the more than 151,780 Democratic voters who cast their ballot for her over Judge Daryl Moore back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in the Democratic Party Primary race for Judge, for the 333rd Civil District Court…but I digress. Anyways, Judge Daryl Moore performed pretty well in the “ABSENTEE BALLOT” phase of the election. He received 12,475 absentee ballots, while Attorney Morris only received 10,978 absentee ballots. However, it was during the “EARLY VOTING” phase of the election that the signs that Attorney Brittanye Lashay Morris was about to do something special came into view. She received 54,572 early votes by personal appearance, whereas Judge Daryl Moore, well, he only received 36,803 early votes. What about Election Day? I’m about to tell you. On Election Day, 86,230 Democrats cast the ballot for Attorney Morris, while only 46,327 Democrats turned out for Judge Daryl Moore on Election Day. So, I think you can kind of understand why folks are a little upset about the results of this particular race. Can’t you? Yes? No? Maybe? Anyways, if not, I don’t know what to tell you. After all, the shockwaves set into motion by the results of this race are still reverberating across Harris County (in both major political parties) in my opinion. At the end of the day, Attorney Morris received 151,780 votes, for 61.35% of the vote. And as for Judge Daryl Moore, well, he was only able to summon a total of 95,605 Democratic voters to cast their ballot for him.

When the smoke cleared, Attorney Rogers had amassed 137,025 votes, for 55.18% of the vote. As for Judge Kirkland, he performed admirably, but could only muster 111,316 votes for 44.82% of the vote.

Constable Chris Diaz is heading into the Tuesday, July 14, 2020, runoff election in the race for Harris County Constable Precinct 2 as the "RUNNER-UP" against Lieutenant Jerry Garcia. In case you don't know, Constable Chris Diaz received 5,122 votes back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in the Democratic Primary, according to the "Unofficial" election returns published by the Harris County Clerk.

Constable Sherman Eagleton is heading into the Tuesday, July 14, 2020, runoff election in the race for Harris County Constable Precinct 3 as the "FRONT-RUNNER" against former Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner Ken Jones. In case you don't know, Constable Sherman Eagleton received 10,008 votes back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in the Democratic Primary, according to the "Unofficial" election returns published by the Harris County Clerk.

Former Constable Ken Jones is heading into the Tuesday, July 14, 2020, runoff election in the race for Harris County Constable Precinct 3 as the "RUNNER-UP" against Constable Sherman Eagleton. In case you don't know, Ken Jones received 3,391 votes back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in the Democratic Primary, according to the "Unofficial" election returns published by the Harris County Clerk. However, in a recent turn of events, Eric Reed, Deborah Florus, and Michel (Poppy) Pappillion have all decided to throw their support behind Ken Jones. This could make the runoff showdown between Constable Sherman Eagleton and former Precinct 3 Constable Ken Jones one of the most intriguing races on the entire May 26th Democratic runoff ballot. Why? Well, at first glance it would appear that Constable Sherman Eagleton is the clear, and decisive "FRONT-RUNNER" heading into the runoff showdown. However, when you take into account that Eric Reed received 1,810 votes for 8.58% of the vote; Deborah Florus received 3,279 votes for 15.54% of the vote; Michael (Poppy) Pappillion received 913 votes for 4.33% of the vote, and Ken Jones himself received 3,391 votes for 16.07% of the vote, it isn't difficult to see that the "RUNOFF SHOWDOWN" between Constable Eagleton and Ken Jones won't be as lopsided as their Democratic Primary was back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020. Another key factor to pay close attention to is the fact that only 23,896 votes were cast back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in the race for Harris County Constable for Precinct 3. Why is this significant? Well, according to the Harris County Clerk's Office, there are 197,063 registered voters in Precinct 3 who could potentially turn out on Tuesday, May 26, 2020. So both Constable Sherman Eagleton (the current Constable for Precinct 3) and Ken Jones (the former Constable for Precinct 3) will both have their work cut out for them between now and the start of the "EARLY VOTING PERIOD" which begins on Monday, July 6, 2020, and ends on Friday, July 10, 2020, in Harris County, Texas.

Randal Newman is heading into the Tuesday, July 14, 2020, runoff election in the race for Harris County Constable Precinct 5 as the "FRONT-RUNNER" against Mark Alan Harrison. In case you don't know, Randal Newman received 23,525 votes back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in the Democratic Primary, according to the "Unofficial" election returns published by the Harris County Clerk.

Mark Alan Harrison is heading into the Tuesday, July 14, 2020, runoff election in the race for Harris County Constable Precinct 5 as the "RUNNER-UP" against Randal Newman. In case you don't know, Mark Alan Harrison received 18,560 votes back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, in the Democratic Primary, according to the "Unofficial" election returns published by the Harris County Clerk.
