Expect for HD-147 to Be a Battleground House District as Damien, Rashard, Reagan and Jolanda Emerge as Contenders

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "Yes, that's the one and only Damien Thaddeus Jones pictured above on the far left. And if you ask me, the race for House District 147, got a whole lot more interesting with the entry of Damien Thaddeus Jones, back on Monday, December 13, 2021. So, just so you know, the demographics of House District 147 have changed a lot over the years. So, before you say who can win this district in the upcoming 2022 Midterm Election, you had better do your homework. Now, that being said, "FRONT-RUNNERS" at this time are Damien Thaddeus Jones (Republican), Rashard Baylor (Republican), Dr. Reagan Flowers (Democrat), and Jolanda "Jo" Jones (Democrat), who could possibly be the overall "FRONT-RUNNER" if you believe endorsements matter."

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

On Tuesday, March 1, 2022, for the first time in over 30 years, Democrats won’t have an incumbent running for re-election in the race for House District #147, in Texas. So, one of the key things to look out for is to see which candidate emerges with the Republican Party nomination in the face-off between Damien Thaddeus Jones and Rashard Baylor. On the Democrat side, you’ve got two very-well known names in former City of Houston Councilwoman/former HISD Trustee Jolanda “Jo” Jones, facing off against HCC Trustee Dr. Reagan Flowers and several other Democratic hopefuls. While at this point, it seems that the race for House District 147, on the Democratic side could end up in a runoff between Jolanda “Jo” Jones and Dr. Flowers, anything can happen between now and then, if you know what I mean. Anyways, Danielle Key Bess, Akwete Hines, Somtoochukwu Ik-Ejiofor, Namrata “Nam” Subramanian, and Aurelia Wagner are also running on the Democratic side.

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "For the record, I always liked State Rep. Garnet Coleman. One of the things I love about him most is that he always took my calls, and that's really important. Why? Well, we have too many politicians and not enough public servants in office. A public servant is someone who clearly understands that they are afforded the opportunity to serve the people."

ABOUT STATE REP. COLEMAN

Garnet F. Coleman has served the people of District 147 in the Texas House of Representatives since 1991. Throughout his years of service, Representative Coleman has earned a reputation as a leader in the areas of health care, economic development, criminal justice, and education. He is currently the Senior ranking member of the Public Health Committee as well as the Chairman of the County Affairs Committee.

For many years Representative Coleman has been deeply committed to expanding access to health care for all Texans. To further this goal he served as a member of President Obama’s State Legislators for Health Reform, which is a working group of 32 state legislators dedicated to advancing the need for health reform in their communities.

Some of his most significant legislative accomplishments include joint authoring legislation that simplified access to children’s Medicaid for more than 600,000 children in Texas who were eligible for the program but were not enrolled because of bureaucratic barriers. He also helped secure an increase of $161.5 million for at-risk child care services and joint-authored legislation that created the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) in Texas, which makes low-cost health insurance available to more than 400,000 children from working families. Representative Coleman also passed the Sandra Bland Act which included de-escalation training for officers, improving the process to make a complaint or compliment of an officer, jail diversion, jail safety, improved data collection, and improvements to mental healthcare.

Representative Coleman’s legislative efforts have been recognized in numerous ways. On two occasions, he was named to the prestigious Texas Monthly Ten Best Legislators List and in 2005 he received the Eli Lilly Reintegration Award for his efforts to increase services and decrease the stigma associated with mental illness. He has also been awarded the American Psychiatric Association Jacob R. Javits Public Service Award.

Representative Coleman has served as the Chair of the Legislative Study Group, a non-partisan house caucus dedicated to the development of sound public policy, since 2003 when he was elected to the position by more than 40 of his colleagues. In addition, Representative Coleman has the honor of being a past chairman and current member of the Texas Legislative Black Caucus.

Striving to increase economic development in Texas, Rep. Coleman has been instrumental in passing legislation fostering urban redevelopment. He authored and passed legislation that created the Greater Southeast Management District, the Downtown Management District, and the Fourth Ward and East Montrose Improvement Districts. Additionally, he passed legislation creating Houston’s convention center hotel and expanding the convention center itself. Representative Coleman also joint-authored legislation during the 2017 legislative session which will help increase the number of affordable housing units in communities of color.

Outside of his legislative work, Representative Coleman remains active and involved in the Houston community. He serves on the advisory board of the Houston Children’s Museum and the Ensemble Theater. In 1991, Representative Coleman founded S.M.A.R.T. Kids, a youth development program that provides much-needed tutoring for inner-city students.

Raised in Houston, Representative Coleman attended Howard University in Washington, D.C., and graduated from the University of St. Thomas cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in 1990. He also completed the prestigious Harvard University Senior Executive Program for State and Local Government.

Representative Coleman and his wife, Angelique, reside in Houston’s University Oaks neighborhood. They have two children, Austin and Evan.

Did You Know That, 1,087,784 Registered Voters Stayed Home and Did Not Even Vote in Harris County, Texas back During the 2018 Midterm Election

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

What we're about to see on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, in Harris County, Texas is a very close election between the "2022 DEMOCRATIC NOMINEES" and the "2022 REPUBLICAN NOMINEES," if you ask me. How can I say this? Well, because there's not going to be any straight-ticket voting in the 2022 Midterm Election. Secondly, the Harris County Elections Administrator won't be able to flood the mailboxes of registered voters with unsolicited mail-ballot applications. Thirdly, there won't be any 24-hour voting. Fourthly, there won't be any drive-thru voting. And finally, the skyrocketing crime and alleged corruption in Harris County, Texas is going to be a huge motivating factor for registered voters to get off the couch and skedaddle to the polls.

There is but One Race, and that is The Human Race. This message was articulated very clearly by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a Visionary who saw things from a different perspective. Almost Forty Years later, we now see those things, and we will strive to incorporate those things into our everyday lives in the knowledge of “Change Begins With Self”

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "Now is the time when our love for America must prevail. It is incumbent upon us to elect "PUBLIC SERVANTS" who understand that they work for the people. We need "ELECTED OFFICIALS" in office who love "OUR CONSTITUTION" and the ideals that our nation was founded upon by our forefathers. We must endeavor to "PUT PEOPLE OVER POLITICS" and do what's best for America during this crucial moment during the history of our great nation."

Nominating the Wrong Candidates on "SUPER TUESDAY" Could Have Disastrous Consequences in the November 2022 General Election in Harris County

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

Make no mistake about it, who the people of Harris County, Texas choose to give another term to in 2022 must be about substance, job performance, judicial temperament, competence, and whether or not our members of the judiciary are following the law with their rulings. And that being said, in the upcoming 2022 Midterms, it is incumbent upon the voters of Harris County to evaluate the job performance of each and every sitting "ELECTED OFFICIAL" on a case-by-case basis and not as a group based on their political party affiliation, ethnicity, or gender.
