The early voting period ends today, Tuesday, December 4, 2018. The Missouri City Community Center located at 1522 Texas Parkway in Missouri City, Texas 77489, and The Quail Valley Fund Office located at 3603 Glenn Lakes in Missouri City, Texas 77459 will be open for early voting today, Tuesday, December 4, 2018 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. for your convenience.

As the early voting period comes to a close today, Tuesday, December 4, 2018, please do not forget that this runoff election between Mayor Allen Owen and Yolanda Ford is perhaps the most important election in the history of Missouri City, Texas.

MAYOR OWEN VERSUS FORD

Supporters of Mayor Allen Owen must push through the finish line for him to have any chance at pulling off a victory on Saturday, December 8, 2018. How can I say this? Well, I’m glad you asked. Mayor Allen Owen trailed an opponent for the first time, back on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, as both his challengers ran the race of their lives. In case you don’t know, Yolanda Ford, the Missouri City Council District A member received 8,600 votes for 35.68 percent of the vote to finish first back on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. Mayor Allen Owen was only able to muster 8,428 votes for 34.97 percent of the vote to force a runoff election with Councilwoman Yolanda Ford. And businessman Fred Taylor, the third-place finisher back on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, received an astonishing 7,075 votes for 29.35 percent of the vote. What was so astonishing about Fred Taylor’s vote total? Well, the 7,075 vote total he received would have won any past Missouri City, Texas Mayoral Election battle on record -- if my memory serves me correctly. Heck, the truth to the matter is that if Councilwoman Yolanda Ford had not entered the race on the last day of the filing period, Fred Taylor (no relation to me) would undoubtedly be Mayor of Missouri City, Texas right now -- at least that’s my opinion.

PRESTON VERSUS SUSAN SOTO

As it stands right now, Susan Soto faces a tougher challenge than Mayor Allen Owen does. For Soto to win, she’s going to need a miracle. If you remember, Council Member Chris Preston received an astounding 10,115 votes for 47.40 percent of the vote to narrowly miss recording an out-right win against his three challengers back on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, in the race for Missouri City Council At-Large Position #2. Because no candidate in the race reached the 50 percent plus one threshold back on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, in the race for Missouri City Council At-Large Position #2, Councilman Preston and the second place finisher Susan Soto are facing off again in a Saturday, December 8, 2018, Runoff Election to determine who will represent Missouri City, Texas as the At-Large Position #2 Council Member. In case you don’t know, Soto only garnered 5,416 votes, for 25.38 percent of the vote to make the runoff. Angie Wierzbicki the third-place finisher back on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, with 3,232 votes for 15.14 percent of the vote ran a strong race but missed the runoff. And H.R. “Buddy” Snyder put on a strong showing as well but only finished with 2,578 votes, for 12.08 percent of the votes in his losing bid to represent the people of Missouri City, Texas as the At-Large Position #2 Council Member.

THE ABSENTEE BALLOT WATCH

According to the Fort Bend County Clerk’s Office, only 937 of the 2,311 Absentee Ballots requested by Missouri City, Texas voters for the “RUNOFF ELECTION” have been mailed back thus far.

EARLY VOTING BY THE NUMBERS

The early voting numbers are down considerably through the first seven days of early voting. According to the Fort Bend County Clerk’s Office, only 4,258 in-person ballots have been cast through the first seven days of early voting. In case you’re wondering, 1,736 in-person voters, have cast ballots early by personal appearance at The Missouri City Community Center. And only 2,522 in-person voters, have cast their ballot early at The Quail Valley Fund Office.
