Ted Cruz Shares His Thoughts With Your Thought Matters Readers

TED CRUZ SHARES HIS THOUGHTS: Why I am the best candidate for United States Senate

by Ted Cruz

I’m running for Senate because in my judgment, America is at a crossroads.  Barack Obama is the most radical president this nation has ever seen and we are facing the epic battle of our generation — a battle of whether this nation remains a free-market nation. The size, power, and spending of the federal government has increased faster in the past three years than ever before. And we desperately need leadership to stand up and defend liberty, free-market principles, and the U.S. Constitution.

I think voters in Texas and across the country are tired of the same establishment incumbents. And 2010 showed they were looking for new leaders who have the courage of their convictions and are strong, principled conservatives who are willing to fight to defend limited government.

For the past decade, over and over again, I have been standing up for conservative principles and winning on the national level.  Serving under Attorney General Greg Abbott, I was proud to successfully defend the Pledge of Allegiance, the Ten Commandments, the Second Amendment, and U.S. sovereignty from the World Court and the UN—all of which we won before the U.S. Supreme Court.

I am the only proven conservative in the race with a demonstrated record of standing up for conservative values and winning on a national level:

• As the head of the Texas Public Policy Foundation's Center for Tenth Amendment Studies, took a leading national role in fighting for States' rights and against excessive federal regulation.

• Successfully represented Texas before the U.S. Supreme Court in Medellin v. Texas, which upheld U.S. sovereignty and held that the World Court cannot bind the U.S. justice system and the President cannot order the state courts to obey the World Court.

• Under the leadership of Attorney General Greg Abbott, repeatedly defended the right to free speech and religious expression, including in a landmark decision protecting the Texas Ten Commandments monument.

• Played a leading role in several important pro-life cases, including defense of the partial-birth abortion ban, parental consent laws, and prohibiting state funds from going to abortion.

• Led a coalition of 31 states protecting the 2nd Amendment by challenging the unconstitutional ban on gun rights in Washington, D.C.

• Worked to strengthen border security and help ensure that America remains a nation of laws. Among other efforts, worked on efforts to increase penalties for felons who enter the country illegally.

• Defended the landmark lawsuit reform legislation implemented in Texas in 2003, protecting the constitutionality of that effort, which has led to greater access to health care and expanded economic opportunity.

• Successfully represented over 3 million veterans before the U.S. Supreme Court, defending the constitutionality of the Mojave Desert Veterans Memorial, which was erected in 1934 to honor WWI veterans.

• Fought on the federal level to defend marriage between one man and one woman as the fundamental building block of society.

DAVID DEWHURST SHARES HIS THOUGHTS: Why I am the best candidate for United States Senate

Texas today is an economic powerhouse and the envy of the nation. For the past nine years, I have had the privilege of serving as Lieutenant Governor of Texas and working hard with fine Republican men and women to make Texas the strongest state economy in America and the leader in job creation.

In my capacity as Lt. Governor, I’ve fought liberals each step of the way to achieve historic conservative victories.

• I have worked with pro-life conservatives to defund Planned Parenthood.
• I have worked with the Texas Senate to pass a Photo Voter ID to stop rampant voter fraud across Texas.
• I have helped cut taxes 51 times to save taxpayers $14.5 billion.
• I helped cut state spending by over $14 billion last year.
• I helped pass the most comprehensive tort reform bills in America, making the liberal trial lawyer agenda obsolete in Texas.
• I helped passed the Sonogram Bill, which will save thousands of lives.
• I have stood strong for the 10th Amendment, knowing that the federal government is never the solution.
• I have killed all liberal proposals for a state income tax.
• I have consistently defended religious freedoms.
• I have helped protect the sanctity of marriage by passing the Defense of Marriage Act.

In Washington today, the American Dream is under attack. I have fought successfully to defend conservative values in Texas just as I will fight to defend them in the U.S. Senate. I will help stop President Obama’s trampling on our family values and religious liberties. I will stand up and help stop the radical Obama agenda before it destroys America. Here is my plan:

1. In the U.S. Senate my first priority will be to repeal Obamacare
2. I will help cut federal spending and taxes and balance the budget
3. I will fight outrageous overregulation and get America working again.
4.  I will fight to secure our borders and strengthen our military.
5. I will continue to fight to defend religious liberties.

As a native Texan, rancher, businessman and military veteran, I believe I am the candidate best suited to represent Texas in the U.S. Senate. I am a lifelong businessman who knows what it is like to make a payroll, build a business and create jobs. I have consistently fought for conservative values as Lieutenant Governor of Texas and will continue to do so in the U.S. Senate.

GRADY YARBROUGH SHARES HIS THOUGHTS: Why I am the best candidate for United States Senate

by Grady Yarbrough
For Your Thought Matters Readers

I'm the best candidate because I can bring harmony, and cooperation to the senate, and will try to encourage members of the House to be more harmonious as well.

I believe my experience as an educator, working with people of diverse backgrounds, uniquely  qualifies me to be the next senator.

I was successful as an educator, and can be successful in putting forth a program that will put our people back to work, extend Social Security,  strengthen Medicare/Medicaid, and solve the Immigration problem by implimenting the "Dream Act",  and  granting citizenship to the parents of Dream Act Children.

These are but a few of my ideas, on how we may solve the problems facing our state, and nation.
