Attorneys Call for Sworn Video-Recorded Depositions of Police Officer, HCC Chancellor Cesar Maldonado, and Mrs. Gonzalez

Attorney Ben Hall has issued the following statement regarding the situation swirling around Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, his wife, Dr. Melissa Gonzalez, and her boss Dr. Cesar Maldonado, the HCC Chancellor.

Attorneys Call for Sworn Video-Recorded Depositions of Police Officer, HCC Chancellor
Cesar Maldonado, and Melissa Gonzalez Regarding Domestic Violence Allegations
Against Sheriff

- PRESS RELEASE-

Houston, Tx. Allegations of domestic violence against a sitting Sheriff are too serious a charge to be made lightly or ignored altogether. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez deserves a fair hearing in his pursuit to become the next ICE Director. And, it would be wrong to have an unsupported allegation of domestic violence hang over his head without resolution.

To date, the only sworn evidence of domestic violence against the Sheriff is contained in a federal lawsuit affidavit authored by a former police officer who investigated the complaint involving Sheriff Gonzalez. No one has provided a sworn denial of the police officer’s allegations. To get to the bottom of this matter, all involved parties, the police officer, HCC Chancellor Cesar Maldonado, and Mrs. Gonzalez should be made to submit to sworn video-recorded depositions subject to cross-examination. Such a procedure would expose the witnesses to imprisonment and the pains and penalties of perjury if they lie in their depositions.

The attorneys representing the plaintiff in the federal sexual harassment lawsuit in which the officer’s affidavit has surfaced are therefore calling for the police officer, HCC Chancellor Cesar Maldonado and Mrs. Melissa Gonzalez to sit for sworn video-recorded depositions in the case to answer questions about the charges of domestic violence involving the Sheriff.

Only by obtaining a complete sworn record from all participants will the public be able to get to the bottom of what actually happened. The Sheriff and Senators considering his nomination deserve a complete sworn record and not the present unsworn denials made by some of the participants.

There's more than one way to skin a cat! Have you ever heard that term before? Well, after relentless pressure, the vote to nominate Sheriff Ed Gonzalez to head (ICE) Immigration and Customs Enforcement was canceled yesterday, Tuesday, March 8, 2022. Why? Well, just like I've been telling everyone who would listen for almost a year, the "SWORN AFFIDAVIT" that I obtained (first) and released to the public eventually turned out to be his undoing. That being said, I would like to kindly thank United States Senator James Lankford (R-OK), who serves as the lead Republican on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Subcommittee on Government Operation and Border Management for taking the "SWORN AFFIDAVIT" of former HCC Police Officer Fredrick Portis seriously.

Vote to Nominate Sheriff Ed Gonzalez as head of ICE has Been Canceled Until Allegations of Domestic Violence are Resolved

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

The next challenge is to get the "body cam" of what actually happened inside the office of the HCC Chancellor Cesar Maldonado released to the public. Did you hear me, Dr. Cesar Maldonado? The public needs to see exactly what happened inside of your office when you would not allow Sheriff Ed Gonzalez's wife, to speak to Officer Fredrick Portis and the other HCC Officer to speak freely to them.

Attorney Ben Hall isn't playing around. The jest of the investigation that was being conducted by Officer Fredrick Portis concerned Sheriff Ed Gonzalez allegedly becoming physical or violent with Mrs. Melissa Gonzalez because she was romantically involved with her boss, HCC Chancellor Dr. Cesar Maldonado. According to Officer Fredrick Portis, "The interrogation of Mrs. Gonzalez, while Chancellor Maldonado was present, was also captured on bodycam and should also be in the investigative file dealing with Mrs. Gonzalez's complaint against her husband -- Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez."

In the "SWORN AFFIDAVIT" Officer Fredrick Portis stated, "I and the other HCC officer went to Chancellor Maldonado's office to investigate the complaint. Upon arriving, I noticed Mrs. Gonzalez sitting in a chair (verify), with Chancellor Maldonado sitting/standing (verify) near her. The Chancellor spoke up and said that Mrs. Gonzalez wanted to file a complaint against her husband, Sheriff Gonzalez, because of suggested violence she had experienced at her home at the hands of the sheriff. With that introduction, I asked Chancellor Maldonado to leave the room while we interviewed the complainant. The Chancellor refused to leave the room and said he insisted on staying in the room. Citing to police policy and protocol, I insisted the Chancellor leave the interrogation and he again refused. After this back and forth trying to get Maldonado to leave the room, I felt the Chancellor threatened the other officer and me with our job when he said something to the following effect: You know I am your boss!" He did this to try to intimidate me."

PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO READ THE SWORN AFFIDAVIT OF FORMER HCC POLICE OFFICER FREDRICK PORTIS

l. My name is Fredrick Portis. I am a 45-year-old Black male and reside at XXXX I file this declaration under the pains and penalties of perjury, and the Court and parties, in this case, may rely on the following information as being factually true.

2. Between 2014 and 2017, I was hired by and served as a licensed police officer for Houston Community College. In 2017, I was promoted to the rank of Corporal in the HCC Police Department. As an HCC police officer, I was charged with enforcing the laws of the State of Texas on HCC property. I had the power to detain, arrest and take offenders of the law to jail. While I was hired by HCC as a licensed peace officer, I reported directly to the HCC Chief of Police and his ranking officers. I left HCC in 2020 and continued to work as a police officer with other agencies and governmental entities. I am still a licensed police officer in the State of Texas.

3. While working at HCC, another police officer and I were called to investigate an alleged domestic dispute between a female vice-chancellor of the college named Melissa Gonzalez. The call came in from Chancellor Cesar Maldonado's office and concerned Mrs. Gonzalez having a domestic complaint about her husband's actions toward her. Her husband was the Harris County Sheriff, Ed Gonzalez.

4. I and the other HCC officer went to Chancellor Maldonado's office to investigate the complaint. After this back and forth trying to get Maldonado to leave the room, I felt the Chancellor threatened the other officer and me with our job when he said something to the following effect: You know I am your boss!" He did this to try to intimidate me.

5. I remember having my bodycam on and operating at the time we arrived to interview Mrs. Gonzalez, and that bodycam footage was uploaded in HCC's computer system to go along with the investigative report on Mrs. Gonzalez's domestic complaint against her husband, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. It is my understanding that video is presently still in the possession of HCC but that an administrative block or password is needed to access the report and video.

6. Because of the Chancellor's demand that he remain in the interrogation room, Mrs. Gonzalez was interviewed with Chancellor Maldonado being present. During the interrogation of Mrs. Gonzalez, Chancellor Maldonado coached her on how to answer the questions and what to say. The jest of the investigation concerned the Sheriff allegedly becoming physical or violent with Mrs. Gonzalez because of her romantic relationship with the Chancellor. The interrogation of Mrs. Gonzalez, while Chancellor Maldonado was present, was also captured on bodycam and should also be in the investigative file dealing with Mrs. Gonzalez's complaint against her husband.

7. Because of the people involved in the complaint—the Sheriff, his wife, and the Chancellor—the investigative report was provided to the Chief of HCC Police, Greg Cunningham. After the report was turned in, I had no further involvement in investigating the matter and am not aware of any criminal charges being filed against Sheriff Ed. Gonzalez.

8. If called as a witness in this case I would truthfully repeat the above facts to a jury and the court under oath.

9. I declare under penalty of perjury that the foregoing is true and correct.

Executed on July 16, 2021.

Official 2022 Primary Runoff Matchups for Democrats, Republicans to Consider on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, in Harris County, Texas

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

Something very bad happened in Harris County, Texas, back during the Democratic and Republican primaries. Did you hear me? I said that something very bad happened in Harris County, during the Tuesday, March 1, 2022, Democratic and Republican Primaries. That being said, we can't continue to head down the road we're traveling right now. Listen...we can't do anything in this world without proper identification. Nobody can even drive to the polls to cast a vote without a driver's license. Nor can anyone reading this report go out and buy a house, or rent an apartment without some type of legitimate identification. Nor can anyone reading this report open up a bank account or cash a check at the local corner store without proper identification. So, why on earth should we be allowing anyone to vote without presenting proper identification??? Listen!!! All this talk about voter suppression is a bunch of B.S. if you ask me. At the end of the day, confidence in our elections must be restored. And all of that being said, "VOTER INTEGRITY" should not be a partisan issue. Why? Well, every Democrat and Republican featured in this report deserves a right to know that their opponent is running a clean race.

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "Now is the time when our love for America must prevail. It is incumbent upon us to elect "PUBLIC SERVANTS" who understand that they work for us. We need "ELECTED OFFICIALS" in office who love "OUR CONSTITUTION" and the ideals that our nation was founded upon by our forefathers. We must make it our collective effort to "PUT PEOPLE OVER POLITICS" and do what's best for America during this crucial moment in time."

Favoritism and Party Politics Have No Place Inside Our Harris County Courtrooms

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

At the end of the day, the judicial races are the most important races on the ballot. That said, who we allow to put on that black robe and occupy judicial benches (especially in Harris County, Texas) matters a great deal. Over the years, through straight-ticket voting, and folks going into the polls playing "Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe" we've allowed a few bad folks to slip through the cracks. Now, I'm not trying to play party politics in any way, shape, or form, with my words. All I'm trying to say is that nobody is perfect, but if we make it our goal to elevate people who fear God and have a backbone into positions of authority, every one of us will be afforded the opportunity to live our best life.
