Elected Officials Like State Rep. Senfronia Thompson Who Can Work Across the Political Aisle Are Good for the State of Texas

“The truth of the matter is, I do not agree with either party (Democratic or Republican) on their entire political platforms, or on 100% of either party's views on the hot-button issues that are facing our nation during these turbulent political times. That’s just not going to happen my friend!!! However, I have watched Democratic State Rep. Senfronia Thompson (HD-141) for most of my adult life and professional career in politics -- which spans more than 30 years. And I believe with all of my heart that State Rep. Senfronia Thompson is good for Texas!!! So, for all of you crooked, dirty, and corrupt politicians, political consultants and political party bosses out there who are calling around and trying to paint the narrative that I’m against Democrats – you’re a bald-faced lie. I am not against all Democrats!!! And I’m not for all Republicans! Who am I against? I’m glad you asked! I am against the people who are running around hiring folks to “HARVEST ABSENTEE BALLOTS” for them. I’m against the bad folks who will do anything, including cheat to win an election. And I’m against the corrupt politicians like Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis and his puppets who are conspiring together to push their “BLACK/LATINO SUPREMACY AGENDA” throughout the state of Texas. Why? Hell, we can't have people taking elected offices away from good white elected officials and giving them to Blacks and Latinos purely because of the color of their skin!!! What am I for? I am for us electing duly-qualified “PEOPLE WHO VALUE ALL OF US” into positions of authority throughout Texas – irrespective of their political party affiliation. Last week, Democratic State Rep. Senfronia Thompson said, “We want the same privilege that you take for granted.” And I totally agree with her. We must make sure that “ALL PEOPLE” are treated fairly and justly. And we must make sure that “LADY JUSTICE” keeps her blindfold on at all times. So, to this end, I would like to take this moment to congratulate State Rep. Senfronia Thompson and all of her colleagues who stood with her on HBs 829, 830, and 834 last week. And let me add that I believe that we must find creative ways to put common sense police reforms into law. And yes, we must protect communities of color from overzealous policing practices. But I also believe that we must get tougher on crime and ensure that members of law enforcement have the ability to serve and protect “ALL OF US” from the rapidly growing criminal element that’s growing stronger and stronger and becoming bolder and bolder because deterrents to discourage criminal activities are being torn down.”

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

If you ask me, something has to be done about the growing crime rate in the Houston area. What should be done? I’m not sure what needs to be done, but I can tell you with full-assurance that over the last few years, many of the deterrents to discourage criminals from going out and committing crimes have been wiped away. What’s a deterrent? Well, a deterrent, in my opinion is something that we’ve put in place someone from doing something. In short, a deterrent is something that we’ve put in place to make a person stop and think about the consequences of their actions, before going out and committing a criminal act. So, to this end, I do not agree with defunding the police! Why? Well, defunding police departments, works in favor of the criminals.

WHAT MUST WE DO?

Well, if there’s no threat of being arrested for slapping and old lady, throwing her to the ground and snatching her person – where are we headed to as a nation? Wait don’t answer that – I’ll tell you! We’re headed toward a lawless society – one where we’re all less safe. Now, I’m going to stop right there for now. But please understand that the crime rate in Houston, Texas is going through the rough and something has to be done it! Look, last year in Houston, Texas, over 400 people were murdered. Did you hear me? For those of you way in the back I said, last year in Houston, Texas over 400 people were murdered. And like it or not, this crime rate increase is happening under Democratic watch. Again, I’m not attacking Democrats!!! What I’m saying is that the crime rate in Houston, Texas is headed in the wrong direction. Over the course of the last year or so, the crime rate in Houston has increased to levels we haven’t seen since the 1990s. And that being said, we must make it our business between now and the 2022 Midterms to identify the areas where we must get tougher, increase funding for our police departments, and remove people from office who do not believe in, and support public safety. After all, we all deserve the right to feel safe, protected, and free from the threat of being killed as we go about our daily lives. And to this end, must find a balance between establishing police accountability, and protecting Houstonians from the criminals who are running around committing crimes with no regards for the law.

According to her website, Rep. Senfronia Thompson's legacy is one built from a strong principle of faith, an unwavering defense of freedom, and a staunch belief in fairness. She exemplifies the American ideal that one person can make a difference.

Texas native Senfronia Thompson was born in Booth, Texas and raised in Houston. She represents District 141, which includes Northeast Houston and Humble.

Rep. Thompson has the distinct honor of being the longest-serving woman and African-American in Texas history. She is Dean of the Texas House of Representatives and is currently serving her 25th term.

She received her high school diploma from Booker T. Washington High School in Houston. She has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Texas Southern University; a Master of Education from Prairie View A&M University; a JD degree from Thurgood Marshall School of Law and a Master of Law in International Law from the University of Houston.

Rep. Thompson is a proud member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

A Houston attorney and award-winning legislator, Rep. Thompson, affectionately known by her colleagues as "Ms. T", was inducted into the Texas Women's Hall of Fame on May 6, 2014.

Rep. Thompson currently chairs the Texas House Committee on Licensing & Administrative Procedures. She is a member of the House Committee on Business & Industry and the House Committee on Redistricting.

Throughout her illustrious career, Rep. Thompson has proven her commitment to those less fortunate with her tireless fight for justice, equality and opportunity for all. Rep. Thompson has led the fight against human trafficking long before people even recognized what human trafficking was and how these traumatic experiences damage people's lives. She has put Texas first in having some of the best anti-human trafficking laws compared to other states.

She worked passionately for the passage of Texas' Equal Pay Act in both the house and senate. Although the bill was vetoed, Rep. Thompson remains committed to ensuring Texans receive equal pay for equal work.

Rep. Thompson is the author of the James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Act; the Sexual Assault Program Fund; the Model School Records Flagging Act to assist in the location of abducted children; the state's current minimum wage law; Texas' first and only alimony law; laws creating drug courts; laws providing insurance coverage for anti-cancer oral medication, 3D mammograms; HPV & cervical cancer screening tests and contraceptives, like the IUD and diaphragms. She has also passed laws protecting unpaid interns from sexual harassment; allow Medicaid nursing home residents to keep more of their retirement or social security money for their personal use; allow homeowners over the age of 65 to make quarterly property tax payments without penalty; law allowing parents to request a camera in the classroom of special need students, and scores of other reforms benefitting women, children and the elderly.

She sponsored laws banning racial profiling, secured state funding to install video cameras and audio equipment in every police car to be used at all stops; ended "debtor's prison" to prevent people from ending in a cycle of debt, jail time and license suspension simply because they can not afford to pay their traffic tickets or other fine-only offenses.

She also authored the Chief Justice Jack Pope Act which increases funding for legal aid to help low-income Texans with their civil cases and the Michael Morton Act, to create a fairer criminal justice system in Texas.

She has passed legislation aimed at protecting women and children against domestic violence, extending protective orders to last longer and enforceable within the entire state of Texas, increasing the penalty of sex offenders, giving rape victims a voice in the processing of their rape kits and fought to end sexual discrimination in the work place.

Rep. Thompson is the only recipient of the Rosa Parks Award from the Texas Legislative Black Caucus, and has been named one of Texas Monthly's Top Ten Best Legislators.

"As I've already said, I do not agree with either party (Democratic or Republican) on their entire platform, or on 100% of the hot-button issues 100% of the time. That’s just not going to happen!!! However, I have watched Democratic State Rep. Senfronia Thompson (HD-141) for most of my adult life and professional career in politics. And my observation of her in action leads me to believe that State Rep. Senfronia Thompson is good for Texas and deserves to continue working for the people of Texas for as long as she desires to do so!!!"

The “Sisterhood Series” Features 70 Powerful Texas Women You Should Know Who Are Doing Their Own Thing

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

I would like to take this moment to introduce our “SISTERHOOD SERIES” to you. This empowerment movement is being launched to highlight a few powerful Texas women who are doing their own thing in legal, political, and public relations fields throughout the Lone Star State. Now, while this powerful group of women is being brought to you as a corporate body, our “SISTERHOOD SERIES” should not be misconstrued as identity/gender politics in any way, shape, or form. Why? Well, all of the featured women in this series are (in their own unique way) some of the best and brightest women in America. So, recognizing these women as part of our SISTERHOOD SERIES” is our way of applauding each of them for their courage, tenacity, and ability to compete in what has traditionally been a man’s world.

TRUTH OF THE MATTER

If we’re honest with ourselves, we all know that women are still fighting an uphill battle in politics as well as inside boardrooms across America. So, let's not forget – it wasn’t long ago that women were guaranteed the right to vote. In case you don’t know, the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote was only the beginning of a much longer fight that women are continuing to fight on the campaign trail, in board rooms, and while living their everyday lives.

A VERY UNIQUE BOND

Each segment of our “SISTERHOOD SERIES” will highlight a “FEATURED SPONSOR” on the cover, and sixty-nine sitting incumbent Democratic and Republican members of the judiciary inside. So, as a community of women, each of the sixty-nine women featured as the “BODY OF THE SERIES” are linked together by their common successes in the rough and tumble world of Texas politics. Now, you can bet your bottom dollar, that some of these women will be endorsed by Houston Business Connections Newspaper©, in 2022 and 2024 “ELECTION GUIDES” when they appear on the ballot. However, unfortunately, some of these women will not make the cut. So, please do not forget that the deadline to run for political office in the “2022 MIDTERM ELECTIONS” is on Monday, December 13, 2021, in Texas. And, if you are a woman or man who is planning to run for office in 2022, you must sign up by Monday, December 13, 2021, at 6:00 pm. So, if you are not sure, what position you should run for in the Democratic Party Primary or Republican Party Primary, please call (281)788-3033, and I will try to assist you in any way I can.

MINISTERS OF JUSTICE

Every judge in America takes an oath of office and solemnly swears that they will administer justice without respect to persons and that they will do equal right to the poor and to the rich alike. So, the “MINISTERS OF JUSTICE” you see listed below, have all promised to faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent upon them under the United States Constitution and the laws that govern us as a free nation when they were elected. And each of them did so before the LORD God Almighty. Now, that being said, nowhere in their promise was their political party affiliation, sorority, socio-economic status, or ethnicity mentioned. So, let’s do our best going forward, to elect the “BEST AND BRIGHTEST” women and men who are committed to handing out even-handed justice to every person who enters their courtroom.

Nominating the Wrong Candidates on "SUPER TUESDAY" Could Have Disastrous Consequences in the November 2022 General Election in Harris County

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

Make no mistake about it, who the people of Harris County, Texas choose to give another term to in 2022 must be about substance, job performance, judicial temperament, competence, and whether or not our members of the judiciary are following the law with their rulings. And that being said, in 2022, it is incumbent upon the voters of Harris County to evaluate the job performance of each and every sitting "ELECTED OFFICIAL" on a case-by-case basis and not as a group based on their political party affiliation, ethnicity, or gender.

THINKING ABOUT RUNNING?

If you are a candidate planning to run for office in 2022, you have to select the right candidate to run against. And the second most important thing to understand is that you have to select your race early, to avoid ending up in a crowded field of candidates on "SUPER TUESDAY" in Harris County, Texas. So, if you need assistance trying to determine which race to enter, please call (281)788-3033, and I will do my very best to answer any questions you may have.
