Political Consultant Damien Thaddeus Jones (Not Dallas Jones) Was Indicted Yesterday, Along With Two Other Democrats

Damien Thaddeus Jones, flanked by former Congressman Beto O’Rourke and Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis is the Chairman of the Urban Justice and Equity Pac, a non-partisan political action committee focused on building African American political power throughout the state of Texas. In case you don’t know, Damien Thaddeus Jones is a seasoned political strategist, and U.S. Air Force veteran who has been making some serious moves in Harris County politics over the last several years. However, in case you haven't heard, he, along with two other Democrats, Natasha Demming, and Richard Bonton was indicted by Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg yesterday, Friday, December 11, 2020. The threesome, according to authorities, was involved in two different failed schemes intended to affect the outcomes in two Texas House of Representatives’ local districts during the 2020 election cycle. “Those who have the responsibility and run for the job of making our laws must follow our laws. The public’s right to free and fair elections is the foundation of our democracy,” said Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg.

Make no mistake about it, what we saw go down in Harris County, Texas on yesterday was a big deal. In fact, it was a very big deal. And if you ask me, it took a very brave woman to do what Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg, a Democrat did yesterday. In this current political climate, where lies are being peddled to the American people like beads being thrown out to Mardi Gras goers at the annual Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans -- or something. What I saw yesterday, was a brave woman taking a stance. A woman who is sick and tired of the lies. A woman who knows that something is wrong in Harris County, Texas. A woman who is fed up. A woman who seems to be ready to do what’s right. Listen, what happened yesterday in Harris County, Texas is only the tip of the iceberg if you ask me. Look, yesterday was nothing but a start. How can I say this? Well, political consultant Damien Thaddeus Jones, Natasha Demming, and Richard Bonton are what appears to be low-hanging-fruit – believe me when I tell you that, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg didn’t call that press conference yesterday, to talk about Jones Demming, and Botton – she was sending a message to some folks.

SHE'S DOING HER ‘THANG’

What Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg did yesterday, by issuing indictments against Damien Thaddeus Jones, Natasha Demming, and Richard Bonton wasn’t just about them – trust me! In my opinion, she sent shockwaves through “THE BLACK COMMUNITY” and “HARRIS COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY” by handing down those indictments – and she’s not done! Nope, I would strongly encourage “THE BLACK COMMUNITY” to brace itself for what’s undoubtedly going to look like open-season on a bunch of “BLACK POWER BROKERS” in Harris County, Texas by the time Ogg is finished. And just think about it, a coalition of Black leaders compelled Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg to do something about the corruption that’s been going on for far too long several months ago. What am I talking about? Well, in case you don’t remember, a few months ago, a coalition of Black leaders joined forces with eighteen state Democratic officials from Harris County, along with the Houston Branch of the N.A.A.C.P. to request that D.A. Kim Ogg and Harris County Attorney Vince Ryan fully investigate the presence of a phantom candidate who somehow made her way onto the Tuesday, March 3, 2020, Democratic Primary ballot in the race for State Representative for House District 142. And one of the things the aforementioned coalition asked for was for District Attorney Kim Ogg to impanel a grand jury to do so – and she did just that.

"Our community has come too far at too great a cost to allow the voters in House District 142 to be defrauded by what may have been an organized effort to put a name on the ballot for a person who does not exist," said Carroll G. Robinson.

MORE INDICTMENTS COMING

"Our community has come too far at too great a cost to allow the voters in House District 142 to be defrauded by what may have been an organized effort to put a name on the ballot for a person who does not exist," said Carroll G. Robinson, current State Chairman of the Texas Coalition of Black Democrats and a former at-large member of the Houston City Council. "More than 2500 voters were duped into voting for a non-existent mystery 'candidate' by the actions of one or more people who got a name put on the ballot by violating numerous laws,” said Chairman Robinson. And according to the indictments announced yesterday, December 11, 2020, D.A. Ogg has taken a huge first step toward getting to the bottom of what happened – and she should be commended for that. But her work isn’t done. And she stated that there would be more indictments coming.

"Harris County District Kim Ogg has faced many obstacles since she took office. I found this photo on her Facebook page of her working a shift at in-take back in 2017 after she and her staff lost their offices in the wake of Hurricane Harvey."

SHE ROSE TO THE OCCASION

I have been very critical of Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg over the course of the last year or so – right along with a lot of other people. But I must say, that I was proud of the way she handled herself yesterday. Almost as proud as I was a few months ago when I received the notice that Black community leaders had stepped up to the plate to urge District Attorney Kim Ogg, and Harris County Attorney Vince Ryan to do something. For all of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, the aforementioned letter was signed by eighteen Harris County Democrats elected to the Texas Legislature, by N.A.A.C.P. Houston Branch President James Douglas, by Robinson on behalf of the Coalition and by the following Houston area ministers: Houston Metropolitan Ministers, Pastor James Nash, St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Robert Tigner, Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church and Pastor George Hill, Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church. "Based on our preliminary report of the facts, to which the authorities have access, it is clear that election fraud occurred. We need the District Attorney to promptly investigate this case and prosecute those who did this to the full extent of the law," said Carroll G. Robinson. "With all the talk about Russia meddling in our elections, it would be an outrage and a travesty to let some homegrown dirty tricksters get away with these crimes,” he said. And thank God, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg listened to the cry. Now, it took a while, but on Friday, December 11, 2022, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office took bold action against three Democrats who are accused of committing several acts that were allegedly meant to impact several local 2020 election contests.

Democratic political consultant Damien Thaddeus Jones was indicted for Coercion of a Public Servant and False Caller Identification Information Display for an anonymous threat texted to then State Representative Gina Calanni in an attempt to coerce her into resigning.

Natasha Demming was indicted yesterday, Friday, December 11, 2020, for Election Fraud related crimes by Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg.

Richard Bonton was indicted yesterday, Friday, December 11, 2020, for Election Fraud related crimes by Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg.

THREE DEMOCRATS WERE INDICTED FOR ROLES IN FRAUDULENT ELECTION SCHEMES ON DECEMBER 11, 2020

(December 11, 2020) -- Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced that a Grand Jury indicted three people Friday in two different failed schemes intended to affect the outcomes in two Texas House of Representatives’ local districts during the 2020 election cycle. The impacted districts were HD 132 and HD 142.

“Our democracy depends on keeping our elected officials safe from coercion and our elections free from illegal manipulation,” Ogg said. “Those indicted today crossed the line from dirty politics to criminal activity and they will pay the price.”

Democratic political consultant Damien Jones was indicted for Coercion of a Public Servant and False Caller Identification Information Display for an anonymous threat texted to then State Representative Gina Calanni in an attempt to coerce her into resigning her position in HD 132, instead of running for re-election. The threat was made on Dec. 2, 2019, just days before the 2020 election filing deadline. Instead of resigning, Calanni reported the threat to the Texas Rangers, who in conjunction with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office Public Corruption Division, investigated the complaint. If convicted of the two Class A misdemeanors, Jones faces up to a year in the Harris County Jail and up to a $4000 fine or both.

Just days later, a second scheme intended to impact the election in HD 142 unfolded when a person using a false name, Natasha Ruiz, filed for election against longtime State Representative Harold Dutton. She did not, however, act alone. Natasha Demming, along with Richard Anthony Bonton, also a candidate for HD 142, was indicted today for Election Fraud related crimes.

Bonton, who had previously run for HD 142, conspired with Demming to file her ballot application in HD 142 under a false name, Natasha Ruiz. Bonton’s motive appears to have been to manipulate voters into supporting a Latino candidate to dilute incumbent Harold Dutton’s voter base in a district with a growing Latino population. Dutton is African American, as are Demming and Bonton. While the scheme did not elevate Bonton’s candidacy as intended, it did impact the election, resulting in a runoff between Dutton and another candidate, Jerry Davis.

For his role, Bonton is charged with Tampering with a Governmental Record, a state jail felony punishable by up to two years, and two Class A misdemeanors, each punishable by up to a year in jail.

For her role, Demming is charged with two counts of Tampering with a Governmental Record, both state jail felonies, and three Class A misdemeanors: Perjury, Election Fraud, and Conspiracy to Commit Tampering with a Governmental Record, all of which are punishable by up to a year in jail.

Per District Attorney Kim Ogg, “Those who run for the responsibility of making our laws are expected to follow the law.”

The Public Corruption Division does not confirm or deny the existence of any investigation until and if a criminal charge is filed. This is done out of fairness of all parties potentially involved in any matter.

DAMIEN AND BETO

"Former Congressman Beto O'Rourke is to date the biggest client Damien Thaddeus Jones has ever landed in his young career as a political consultant. But Beto has nothing whatsoever to do with the indictments against Jones in any way, shape, or form."

DAMIEN GOT BLINDSIDED

As it relates to Natasha Demming and Richard Bonton, they are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law – but things don’t look good at all for them. But as it relates to Damien Thaddeus Jones, I don’t know – something’s not right. Seeing him lumped in with these other two characters should kind of have everyone scratching their heads. Hell, I would have thought that a high-ranking Democratic Party Official, like Democratic Party Chairwoman Lillie Schechter or someone, would have been included in the group of those indicated, before I would have imaged Damien Thaddeus Jones getting ensnared in this web. But when you look at it, Jones has been making some powerful enemies in Harris County, Texas. Especially, after he beat a 2015 rape allegation that was brought against him because prosecutors declined to press charges against him. For those of you who don’t know, the alleged act happened back when Jones was a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Staffer. In case you don’t remember, the whole matter kind of, sort of, went away, and then crept back up again when Damien Thaddeus Jones landed a top spot with Beto O’Rourke’s Senate campaign.

POLITICS IS A DIRTY BUSINESS

It’s too early to tell right now, but Damien Thaddeus Jones may have pissed off some of the wrong people somewhere along the way. Now, don’t you dare go back and say that I said that his indictment is bogus – or anything of the sort -- don't do that!!! All I am saying here is that the timing of a few things whereas Damien Thaddeus Jones is concerned is a little suspect if you ask me. “I’m rocking with Damien Thaddeus Jones all the way,” says Gerry Wayne Monroe, affectionately known as the “5 STAR GENERAL” on his hugely popular “WAR ZONE” broadcast. “I believe that Damien is innocent,” he said. Whether or not he’s correct, remains to be seen. But like I said, more than a few things, that I’m not going to discuss at this time, may not add up at the end of the day whereas Damien Thaddeus Jones is concerned. However, at the end of the day, if he’s pissed someone off somewhere along the way, they’ve got his attention now!

DAMIEN AND BETO WORKED HARD

If you ask me, over the last year or so, Damien Thaddeus Jones has been making some serious waves in Harris County, Texas. Believe it or not, I’ve been watching this cat do his thing for the last year or so. And to be honest, I was starting to get a little impressed with what I’ve been seeing from him. I really liked the creativity he displayed back in 2019 when he conducted a survey using all of the “2020 DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES” as the focus. I thought that it was kind of clever for him to offer $50 gift cards to everyone who completed his survey. But wondered to me, “How in the hell is Damien going to pay for this – if thousands of people complete his survey. Heck, if 10,000 people respond to his survey, he would need $500,000 to cover the freaking gift cards.” But I guess it all worked out. What’s my point? I’m about to tell you if you hold your horses. Look, the point I am trying to make is that Damien Thaddeus Jones has spent the last few years positioning himself as a player in the political world here in Harris County, Texas. And it’s clear that he’s got some powerful friends behind him – but along the way, he’s developed some powerful enemies as well.

"Please keep Damien and his wife Courtney in your prayers as they work through this difficult situation that threatens to ruin Damien's career. And above all else, Damien Thaddeus Jones should be presumed innocent until he's proven guilty."

HARRIS COUNTY POLITICS IS BRUTAL

For all of you who don’t know, Damien Thaddeus Jones’ podcast (Damien Jones Podcast) reaches a diverse audience from all across America. And according to his website, he is regularly called upon as a keynote speaker and by the media for his innovative opinions on politics, popular culture, leadership, and social justice – I can attest to this. Like I said, I’ve been keeping a close eye on this cat for the better part of a year now. And over the years, Damien has been slowly and methodically moving up the ranks – seemingly all by himself. That’s what I like about what he’s been doing, but like with most of the young cats getting into the political game, he does not understand fully how this political game is being played. Now, that’s not to say that Damien Thaddeus Jones isn’t smart – that’s not at all what I’m saying. However, what I’m trying to say here, is that Damien Thaddeus Jones is ignorant; but not in literal terms. He’s ignorant, or should I say, he’s got a lot to learn about the inner-workings of Harris County, Texas politics. Now, that’s not to say that he’s not guilty of Coercion of a Public Servant and using a False Caller Identification Information Display to send an anonymous threat to then-State Rep. Gina Calanni in an attempt to coerce her into resigning her position as the state representative for House District 132 – as Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg alleges in her indictment. But rather, it is to say, that I am imploring everyone reading this report, to reserve judgment on Damien Thaddeus Jones until after he’s had a chance to defend himself in court.

He’s a seasoned political strategist, U.S. Air Force veteran, and efficient problem solver, and someone who deploys faith, politics, and civic engagement as tools to empower everyday people his website states.

For all of you who don’t know, Damien Thaddeus Jones is also an award-winning leader, who cut his teeth as a grassroots activist in Houston as co-founder of the civil rights group Houston Justice and over the years has evolved into a national advocate for liberty and justice for all communities, according to his website, that you can visit to learn more about him.

His website also states that he’s an Environmental Justice Advocate for the Union of Concerned Scientists, and has led campaigns related to criminal justice reform, climate justice, and environmental racism. THE BRAINS

I’m the President/CEO of Aubrey R. Taylor Communications, the publisher of Houston Business Connections Newspaper©. In case you don’t know, I have 30-years of experience in marketing, branding, investigative reporting, public relations, opposition research, and political consulting. I’ve assisted in branding Republican and Democratic candidates in statewide elections and local municipalities throughout the State of Texas. Over the years, I’ve also assisted in branding and marketing (through my various publications) such corporations and institutions as Shell Oil, The City of Houston, Texas A&M University, Texas Southern University, Prairie View A&M University, Chevron, Waste Management, Nationwide Insurance, Momentum Jaguar/BMW, Channel 11, Channel 13, State Farm Insurance, and Allstate Insurance to name a few.

EXPERIENCED REPORTER

I would have you to know that not everyone who has been accused of a crime or enters a guilty plea in connection with a crime is guilty of the crime they're accused of committing. Neither is everyone who goes to trial to fight charges that are leveled against them and get's convicted are guilty. Look, over the years, some very bad things have happened to people of color in our criminal justice system. So to this end, please understand, that during my career, I’ve gone into the Harris County Jail and Texas prisons on numerous occasions (on secret assignments) working in conjunction with the owner of one of the largest locally owned private security, and investigations firms. The man who was funding my investigations back then (who mysteriously died) also was the godfather of one of my sons, and the backer of one of my publications. That being said, I can straight-faced assure you that I’ve seen some of the injustices that are occurring in the Texas penal system up close and personal. While on the inside, I interviewed (face-to-face) some of the hardest criminals you can imagine for my research. I also discovered first-hand that many of the people who should be locked up are walking around free, and not all of those who are locked behind bars are guilty of the crimes that they, in some cases pleaded guilty to – for whatever reason. So, let me assure you that I know a criminal when I see one. And we have a handful of local elected officials who are straight-criminals and must be stopped!!!

PEOPLE OVER POLITICS

Based on my direct observations over the years, I can attest to the fact that our current criminal justice system is more about “HAVE’S AND HAVE NOT’S” to a greater degree than most people realize.  That being said, sure, in some cases, the skin color of the person being accused of a crime plays a role in who gets indicted and eventually convicted of crimes and those who go free. However, at the end of the day, from observing the system from the inside, and out; having money, good legal representation and access to influential people are unfortunately key determining factors when it comes to who will spend the rest of their life walking around with an “X” on their back and who doesn’t. So, to this end, we must endeavor to change our criminal justice system and political landscape by “TAKING POLITICS OUT” of the way our judges are selected in the Lone Star State – that’s very important to me!
