HBC MAGAZINE© REPORTS

In the final contest of the 2017 Election Cycle, Elizabeth Santos, Dr. Pretta VanDible Stallworth, and Sergio Lira all received the “STAMP-OF-APPROVAL” from voters in their respective districts. “Voter turnout was extremely low; but the voters who did go to the polls to vote – seems to have gotten it right,” says Aubrey R. Taylor, publisher of Houston Business Connections Magazine©. “When you look at the fact that the “OVERALL” combined voter turnout was only 7,474 ballots cast by “ABSENTEE” and “IN-PERSON” ballots; but the “OVERALL" combined potential voter turnout was 232,810 – you have to be a little concerned,” he says. “But even with that said, these races turned out exactly how they should have, given the registered voter demographics, candidate experience, and candidate preparedness,” Taylor explains.

THE RESULTS FOR THE HCCS TRUSTEE DISTRICT IX RUNOFF ELECTION

“The battle for HCCS District IX should not have ever even gone to a runoff,” says Taylor. “Our client Dr. Pretta VanDible Stallworth was the most qualified candidate in the race from the very beginning,” he states. “But somehow, due to a combination of things she ended up trailing the Republican Eugene “Gene” Pack back in the General Election on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 – But in my opinion, Dr. Stallworth didn’t panic and the runoff election voters were able to clearly identify the best candidate.”

Coming into the Saturday, December 9, 2017 Runoff Election, Dr. Pretta VanDible Stallworth was widely considered the underdog – but at the end of the night she was the victor! THE END RESULTS: Pretta VanDible Stallworth 1,357 votes for 71.84% of the vote. And Eugene “Gene” Pack 532 votes for 28.16% of the vote. In case you don’t remember, back on Tuesday November 7, 2017 in the General Election the results were a lot different. Eugene “Gene” Pack led all vote-getters with 3,522 back then. “I wonder what happened to all those General Election voters who supported Eugene Pack,” asks Taylor. I wonder if the “BRANDING SUPPLEMENT” published by Houston Business Connections Magazine©, to promote Dr. Pretta VanDible Stallworth in the runoff election made a difference?”

THE RESULTS FOR THE HISD TRUSTEE  DISTRICT I RUNOFF ELECTION

Gretchen Himsl was the underdog from the very beginning in the race for this predominantly Hispanic District. “The race for HISD Trustee for District I was Elizabeth Santos’ race to lose on Saturday, December 9, 2017 in the Runoff Elections says,” Taylor. “Himsl did the best she could, but in the end, the numbers just were not going to be there for her -- without a lot of help,” he explains.

Coming into the Saturday, December 9, 2017 Runoff Election, Elizabeth Santos was the clear and undisputed “FRONT-RUNNER” in the race for HISD Trustee for District I. In case you don’t remember, back in the Tuesday, November 7, 2017 General Election, Santos led all vote-getters with 3,985 votes for 44.78% of the vote. “The problem for Gretchen Himsl was this: if she could not finish ahead of Elizabeth Santos with Monica Flores Richart (another Hispanic female) in the race, she sure wasn’t going to be able to beat Santos in a one-on-one matchup -- without some help,” says Taylor. RUNOFF ELECTION RESULTS: Elizabeth Santos 2,491 votes for 60.07% of the vote. And Gretchen Himsl 1,613 votes for 39.30% of the vote.

THE RESULTS FOR THE HISD TRUSTEE DISTRICT III RUNOFF ELECTION

In case you don’t remember, Jesse A. Rodriguez led all vote-getters back on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 in the General Election with 1,241 votes. Sergio Lira finished just behind Rodriguez in the four candidate field with 1,051 votes. “A lot of folks thought Rodriguez was the clear “FRONT-RUNNER” heading into the runoff; but Sergio Lira wasn’t having any of that,” says Taylor. In the end, to the victor goes the spoils, is what the old adage says. And on Saturday, December 9, 2017, Sergio Lira took full advantage of the low voter turnout to score a come-from-behind victory with, get this, 850 votes for 57.28% of the vote. Jesse A. Rodriguez, could only muster 634 votes for 42.72% of the vote in his losing effort. “Just in case anyone has forgotten, I told everybody prior to the Tuesday, November 7, 2017 General Election, to watch out for Sergio Lira in the race for HISD District III – did I get it right or what?”
