Community Activist Quanell X (left) is very concerned about how a case he's involved with somehow magically reappeared in the 151st Civil District Court that's presided over by Judge Mike Engelhart. In case you don't know, Judge Engelhart ran for re-election unopposed in the Democratic Party primary back on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, however, he still received 231,038 votes. Judge Engelhart also ran unopposed back on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, in the general election. However, he still received 1,042,520 votes. In case you don't know, Judge Mike Engelhart won't be back on the ballot until the March 2024 Democratic Party Primary -- if he chooses to run for re-election.

To put it bluntly, Quanell X isn't happy about what he's seeing play out in a local Harris County, Texas courtroom. According to him, a case involving one of his clients, an Asian businesswoman has somehow magically reappeared in the 151st Civil District Court that's presided over by Judge Mike Engelhart. What's the problem with this? Well, it's kind of complicated, so to better understand what's going on, and who some of the players are, please check out the bullet points below. ABOUT QUANELL X
In case you don't know, Quanell X was born, Quanell Ralph Evans in Los Angeles, California. His parents, in case you don't know, were both members of the Nation of Islam. However, after their divorce, he found himself living in Houston with his mom and younger brother in the South Acres neighborhood, where he ended up attending Worthing High School. What a lot of you guys may not know, is that Quanell was actually inspired by a September 1990, speech that was delivered by the Honorable Louis Farrakhan at the Sam Houston Coliseum to join the Nation of Islam -- against the wishes of his parents. Once a member, it didn't take long for him to rise through the ranks, becoming a spokesman for the organization. A lot has happened since then. However, his passion for people hasn't. What a lot of folks don't know about Quanell X, is that he's seen and witnessed a lot in his lifetime, and he's angered by injustice -- and not just injustices that are perpetrated against Black people. And if you ask me, I think a lot of his fight comes from walking into an apartment as a young man, back in July of 1992, and finding his brother Quinten and three others with bullets to their heads. That being said, when you hear him passionately defend his clients, and those who have suffered injustice, just know that he's coming from a place that many of us might not understand.

DEVELOPING STORY
Back In 2008 an Asian businesswoman purchased a property in Southwest Houston next door to Star Furniture on the Southwest Freeway
Soon after Star Furniture began a campaign of influence using strong-arm tactics with their friends at the City of Houston. Melvynn Wolff and Gary Gibson of Star were both in communication with Councilman Al Hoang's office to do damage to the Asian businesswoman according to Quanell X. Star found out in 2010 that the Asian businesswoman owned the Private Street abutting Star's property. Nonetheless, Star pushed forward with using the City to harass the neighboring business.
***So, even though Wolff was contractually obligated to defend the current owners of the property, they instead joined forces with Star in a suit against the Asian businesswoman regardless of the contract they had previously agreed to.
***The parcel of land was purportedly used by Star for drainage of the rainwater from Star's asphalt parking lot. That's right, they were sending their water onto a neighboring property.
***The parcel was developed into a parking lot by the Asian businesswoman and Star cried foul. Star claimed that they immediately had drainage issues due to the development, which was Approved and Permitted by the City of Houston.
***Star Furniture filed suit claiming a violation of the water code.
***Star Furniture hired a contractor to break the curb on the Private Street owned by the Asian businesswoman in an effort to drain rainwater from their parking lot.
***During the suit Star took measures to install an illegal and unpermitted pump, to pump their rainwater into the neighboring Windwater Village neighborhood. This pump was discovered by City Inspectors and according to City Records, Gary Gibson of Star told City Investigator 279 the pump was removed, yet it is still in place and operating.
***Once again, Star used their strong-arm tactics with the city. Even setting up a meeting with representatives of Mayor Sylvester Turner's office. (Christon Butler was one City employee in attendance). At that meeting Star's contractor made the City aware that Star had a sewerage problem as well leaking into their parking lot, and the Contractor Golan Construction had pumped it into the drive of the neighboring Windwater Village. He said it was "ok because he poured some bleach into the water" before pumping.
***Star's lawyers Dylan Russell and Joe Slovacek are definitely "connected" in the Harris County Courthouse according to Quanell X. Slovacek is a member of the Texas Ethics Commission and as such knows many of the politicians in Houston. Don't forget, Judges are Politicians too.
***The lawsuit made its way through the system and Star ended up non-suiting most of the lawsuit in 2018 according to Quanell X.
***Fast forward to 2020, and a little Forum Shopping later, the case has magically reappeared and has landed in the 151st Civil District Court, perhaps the Strong Arm of Star Furniture has reared it's ugly head again with their penchant for discriminatory actions against minorities Star and Wolff Interests must be made to pay for their illegal actions according to Quanell X.

THE BADASS
Charles (BADASS) Marler worked for the FBI for 16 years learning all facets of the Bureau’s complex operations from evidence collection, radio communications, aviation surveillance, and Forward-Looking Infra-Red (FLIR). Charles was an Investigative Specialist for 12 years as a member of the Special Surveillance Group and conducted, organized, and completed thousands of surveillances on Drugs (as FLIR operator), Intelligence and Terrorism targets. He participated in joint training operations with the DIA, DEA, JCTA, and CIA. Charles was an instructor and evaluator numerous times for the FBI’s surveillance training programs.
Charles managed several FLIR System Operators while coordinating one of the FBI’s prominent FLIR programs. He provided case guidance, became an expert in the operation and maintenance of FLIR equipment, and personally trained or provided training for his operators. Under Charles's leadership and guidance, the FLIR program conducted numerous successful operations against espionage subjects, suspected terrorism subjects, drug shipments, violent crime, and kidnap searches.
Since 2008, Charles has been a co-owner of a private investigative firm based in Houston and has worked as a Private Investigator in Texas for the past four years which specializes in covert physical surveillance operations. As a P.I. he has performed criminal investigations and conducted surveillance operations involving workman’s compensation, child custody, drug use, theft, and the elusive but frequent cheating spouse.

I would have you to know that not everyone who has been accused of a crime or enters a guilty plea in connection with a crime is guilty of the crime they're accused of committing. Neither is everyone who goes to trial to fight charges that are leveled against them and get's convicted are guilty. Look, over the years, some very bad things have happened to people of color in our criminal justice system. So to this end, please understand, that during my career, I’ve gone into the Harris County Jail and Texas prisons on numerous occasions (on secret assignments) working in conjunction with the owner of one of the largest locally owned private security, and investigations firms. The man who was funding my investigations back then (who mysteriously died) also was the godfather of one of my sons, and the backer of one of my publications. That being said, I can straight-faced assure you that I’ve seen some of the injustices that are occurring in the Texas penal system up close and personal. While on the inside, I interviewed (face-to-face) some of the hardest criminals you can imagine for my research. I also discovered first-hand that many of the people who should be locked up are walking around free, and not all of those who are locked behind bars are guilty of the crimes that they, in some cases pleaded guilty to – for whatever reason. So, let me assure you that I know a criminal when I see one. And we have a handful of local elected officials who are straight-criminals and must be stopped!!!
PEOPLE OVER POLITICS
Based on my direct observations over the years, I can attest to the fact that our current criminal justice system is more about “HAVE’S AND HAVE NOT’S” to a greater degree than most people realize. That being said, sure, in some cases, the skin color of the person being accused of a crime plays a role in who gets indicted and eventually convicted of crimes and those who go free. However, at the end of the day, from observing the system from the inside, and out; having money, good legal representation, and access to influential people are unfortunately key determining factors when it comes to who will spend the rest of their life walking around with an “X” on their back and who doesn’t. So, to this end, we must endeavor to change our criminal justice system and political landscape by “TAKING POLITICS OUT” of the way our judges are selected in the Lone Star State – that’s very important to me!
