MORE UPCOMING EVENTS: On Saturday, May 30, 2015 A District-Wide Bilingual Spelling Bee Will Be Held at Clements High School
FORT BEND ISD – Students enrolled in Sequin Elementary’s Bilingual Program recently competed to advance to Fort Bend ISD’s District-wide Bilingual Spelling Bee. Twenty-five students from Sequin Elementary participated in this year’s Bilingual Spelling Bee on May 15. Top spellers will now move on to compete against students from throughout the District on May 30.
Prior to Seguin’s event, contestants in third and fourth-grade studied words from a list that was provided to them. During the spelling bee, the contestants had to spell the word in Spanish, translate it and then spell the word in English, with improper spelling or translation leading to elimination.
Third-grade student John Chavez won first place in the Sequin competition and Izabella Rivas, a fellow third-grader, came in second. Fourth-grade student Vanessa Barrientos placed third. Third-grade Bilingual Teacher Maria Araujo coordinated the event.

On Saturday, May 30, 2015 John Chavez will take part in the district-wide Bilingual Spelling Bee will take place at Clements High School for Fort Bend ISD. This year’s festivities include the Walmart All-American Kids Zone, a children’s entertainment area with a stage featuring entertainment for young and old, alike; the Bud Light Lime-A-Rita Beach Bash, featuring the American Beer Garden and a fun in the sun good time; the Dr Pepper One of a Kind Zone, featuring Houston professional sport team set-ups, music, food, and a salute to all 5 branches of the military; and ending the evening with an exciting fireworks finale sponsored by CITGO. New this year is the US Family Health Plan Backstage Pass; see what takes place behind the scenes via live streaming on abc.com. US Family Health Plan is a product of CHRISTUS Health.
Southwest Airlines Freedom Over Texas will further expand the availability of recycling receptacles to make it easier for attendees to recycle. The City of Houston is committed to supporting green initiatives and promoting sustainability.
The Houston Parks & Recreation Department regulations prohibit dogs, amphibians, reptiles and snakes that are considered dangerous. Therefore, we require the ban of all such animals. This does not include Seeing Eye dogs or other dogs that provide assistance to physically challenged individuals. No smoking allowed in any City of Houston park interior and exterior spaces/facilities.
Freedom Over Texas is one of the signature events produced by the Mayor's Office of Special Events. The City of Houston Mayor's Office of Special Events (MOSE) produces and permits events for the City of Houston. City-wide and neighborhood festivals, dedications, inaugurations, parades, tree plantings, fun runs, galas, ground-breakings, holiday celebrations are examples of events coordinated by this office.
