one of the region's most significant historic events, which commemorates the abolition of slavery in Texas. Houston's Juneteenth Celebration presents a lineup of legendary singers and rising stars in traditional African American music to honor the sesquicentennial of Juneteenth, including Jewel Brown with R.A.D.S. The Krusaders II.0, Trudy Lynn with Steve Krase, the Peterson Brothers and Connection.
Jewel Brown is an acclaimed Jazz and Blues singer whose career includes performing with Louis Armstrong's band from 1961-68 and starring in movies and television shows with Armstrong. She performs with the Heritage Hall Jazz Band. R.A.D.S. The Krusaders II.0 are carrying on the legacy of Houston Jazz legend Joe Sample. They recently recorded a CD with Jewel Brown.
Trudy Lynn is a Houston legacy in Soul and Blues. Her 2014 album, Royal Oaks Blues Cafe, reached Number 1 on Billboard's Top Blues Albums Chart. Steve Krase and his band The In Crowd are award-winning Blues artists. Their latest recording, Buckle Up, features Trudy Lynn. The Peterson Brothers are rising stars in Blues, bringing a very young perspective to the music from Austin, Texas. Connection is an award-winning gospel group from Houston, Texas.
Houston's Juneteenth Celebration commemorates one of the region's most significant historic events, Juneteenth, which has celebrated the abolition of slavery in Texas for 150 years. The event marks the occasion on June 19, 1865 when, following the Union victory in the American Civil War, a contingent of Union Army troops arrived in Galveston, Texas and Major General Gordon Granger read a series of orders, including General Order Number 3, proclaiming "all slaves are free."
Music fans gather from across the region at Miller Outdoor Theatre, Houston's largest public outdoor theatre on June 19, to hear performances by noted artists representing the rich African American musical traditions of the region, including Blues, Jazz, Gospel, Brass Band, Funk and Zydeco. The event is free.
Miller Outdoor Theatre is located in Hermann Park at 6000 Hermann Park Drive, Houston, Texas, 77030. Miller Outdoor Theatre is wheelchair accessible. MetroRail serves Hermann Park. Information can be found at www.ridemetro.org. Concert-goers bringing cars are encouraged to carpool.

"Donor Appreciation Event" celebrating Juneteenth. As you already know, Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States.
The African American Library at the Gregory School will be taking a look back at what they’ve accomplished, but also ahead as they continue to strive for purpose and creativity. This event will honor the self-determination of our ancestors and thank the
amazing donors who make The African American Library at the Gregory School possible.
The guest speaker for this event will be Professor Angela Holder, a Social and Behavioral Sciences, Professor at Houston Community College. Professor Holder will discuss the Camp Logan Mutiny/Houston Riot of 1917.

Parade is scheduled to take place. The parade begins at the intersection of
Dunlavy Street at Westheimer and will proceed east on Westheimer and disbands
at Montrose. The staging area for the parade will be on Woodhead between
Westheimer and W. Alabama, Hazard between Westheimer and W. Alabama, Harold
between McDuffie and Dunlavy, Kipling between Hazard and Dunlavy and Marshall
between Hazard and Dunlavy. The disbanding area will be on Westheimer between
Montrose towards Taft for large floats, Stanford towards W. Alabama for
vehicles, and Stanford towards Pacific Street for walking participants.
