Meet Phil Kunetka and Robert Glaser, the two Candidates Running for HCC Houston Community College Board Trustee for District V in the Saturday, December 14, 2013 Runoff Election

HOW PHIL AND ROBERT MADE THE RUNOFF: On Tuesday, November 5, 2013, Robert Glaser was the class of the field in a (3) three candidate race including Phil Kunetka and Roy A. Cormier. However, Glaser failed to get a majority of the vote, and must now face off against Phil Kunetka, the second place finisher in a Saturday, December 14, 2013 runoff. Robert Glaser ended the night with 6,255 votes for 49.54% of the vote to finish first. Phil Kunetka ended the night with 3,874 votes for 30.68% of the vote to finish second and force the runoff.

 According to his campaign website, Robert Glaser successfully worked to prevent a Management Services District from being overlaid on his neighborhood, which would have resulted in debt financing using residences as collateral and installing an unelected board to manage its activities.

 Robert also initiated mechanism and hired counsel to work with legislators to enact legislation to allow Southampton subdivision to extend its deed restrictions so as to maintain its single family residence status, simultaneously preventing the creation of a HOA over the neighborhood

 Worked to organize a coalition of citizens (The Problem with Prop 1) in opposition to the ReNew Houston initiative, which is now ReBuild Houston- an initiative that resulted in the largest and most regressive tax in Houston’s history.
 
ROBERT IS A HUSBAND AND FATHER

 Married (Janice- 19 years; former teacher and medical instruments company sales representative, now a homemaker and volunteer at M.D. Anderson and the Awty International School), 2 stepsons and 1 daughter.

 Raised, and now a homeowner, in the Southampton neighborhood, just north of Rice University.
 
ROBERT ATTENDED HOUSTON SCHOOLS
 
Product of the public education system in Houston- attended Poe Elementary, Lanier Junior High, and graduated from Lamar High School.

Received BA and BS from the University of Texas at Austin, College of Natural Sciences (Biology and Zoology)
 
ROBERT HAS THE EXPERIENCE
 
While working, earned an MBA from the University of Saint Thomas in Houston

In 1987, created Dymat, Inc. - a Texas corporation providing products and services to the plastics manufacturing industry

In 1990, created ISO Machine, Inc. – a Texas corporation providing precision machining services, catering to the petrochemical and oilfield service industries

Currently acting as President of both companies, operating out of a combined facility in Stafford, Texas

According to his website, Philip James Kunetka is a native of Weimar, Texas where he grew up largely outdoors, hunting and working with the cattle on the family ranch. Active in almost all team sports and many other activities, Phil lettered in Football, Baseball and Golf and won awards in Speech and Debate competitions. at Weimar High School.

 After High School, he graduated from Blinn College and earned a Bachelors Degree in Public Relations Journalism from the University of Texas. At UT he was president of largest men’s dorm, Moore-Hill Hall and participated in a number of internships, intramural teams and organizations. He raised spending money as a high school and college baseball umpire and basketball referee.

 After graduating from the University of Texas, Phil was commissioned as an Officer in the US Navy Officer Candidate School and attended Surface Warfare Officers School in Newport, RI. He was assigned to the destroyer USS Aylwin based in Charleston, SC . Phil served as an engineering and weapons officer and took part in four deployments to Europe and the Mediterranean, including combat operations off the coasts of Beirut, Lebanon and Libya.,

 Following the Navy, Phil returned to Texas where he worked in the insurance, real estate and construction industries. In 1990, he moved to Houston where he worked in sales and management positions and became highly involved in business, community service and social organizations.

Phil has worked on governmental and legislative issues that affect business, homeowners and the overall community. Working for the Harris County District Clerk, he managed the creation of the Harris County Criminal Collection Department which has collected millions in previously lost criminal fine payments.

In 1999, Phil was appointed by the Harris County Commissioners Court to the Harris County Protective Services Board. Presently he serves as Vice President of the Board and is a member of its Executive Committee, Youth Services Committee and as Board Representative to the Harris County CPS Fund, 401C3 Foundation. He is also President of the Maplewood Civic Club and Treasurer of Pilgrim Lutheran School PTL.

 Previously, Phil had been a Big Brother, a Precinct Chairman and Election Judge, and a Regional Official for Toastmasters International. He has also worked as an advocate to streamline adoptions.

Presently, Phil works in commercial real estate with AR Commercial Properties.
