The HCC Board Members had an announcement posted on the HCCS website from Friday, April 17, 2015 through 12:00 p.m. on Monday, April 27, 2015. The HCC Board of Trustees also appointed a “Selection Committee” comprised of five individuals who live in HCC District IV. The individuals selected to make up the "Selection Committee" were: Elma Barrera, Jolanda Jones, Judy Long, Ramon Manning, and Beryl Shorter.

IMPORTANT REMINDER

Keep in mind that Texas Election Code requires that the position for HCC Trustee, District IV be up for election at the next regular trustee election, which will be the Tuesday, November 3, 2015 General Election. This means that Dr. Carolyn Evans-Shabazz must run for election to earn the right to serve out the remaining term left vacant by the resignation of former board member Carroll G. Robinson which is set to expire in November of 2017.

The Board of Trustees is the official governing body of Houston Community College. The Board is composed of nine members who are elected from single-member districts and who serve without remuneration. Board members are elected to staggered six-year terms. The Board has final authority to determine and interpret the policies that govern HCC. As part of their duties, the trustees maintain a full schedule of community service, public appearances, speaking engagements and legislative affairs on behalf of HCC. Board members represent an impressive mix of individual talents and professional backgrounds enabling them to provide governance of the highest quality.

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "There's a lot of talk about the 2016 Presidential Election going on right now all across America; but I'd encourage all Houstonians to spend a little time researching and getting to know some of the 2015 City of Houston Mayoral candidates before Election Day."

Houston is a strong mayoral driven city. This means that our mayor, as the chief executive of our city has a whole lot of power. And some might argue, has a greater direct impact on our lives than our president does. So, let's act as if the latter is correct and focus a little more of our attention on the upcoming Tuesday, November 3, 2015 Mayoral Election. A few of the people seeking to replace Mayor Annise Parker (who is term-limited) are: Ben Hall, Adrian Garcia, Victoria Lane, Sylvester Turner, Bill King, Marty McVey, Stephen Costello, and Chris Bell. Early voting will start on Monday, October 19, 2015 and end on Friday, October 30, 2015. You are strongly encouraged to consider the candidates who value and respect us when you go to the polls.

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "We must become more active participants in the process of choosing the people who govern over us on the local, state, and federal level."

FINAL NOTES: Our "CELEBRATING FREEDOM AND LIBERTY" edition of Houston Business Connections Magazine will be released on Friday, June 19, 2015. This edition will highlight "JUNETEENTH" and "THE FOURTH OF JULY" holidays.

WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR MORE PEOPLE TO FEATURE INSIDE THIS EDITION. A few of the key advertisers already signed up are: Attorney Ben Hall, Attorney Keryl L. Douglas, Attorney Farrah Martinez, Judge John Schmude, and Judge Loyd Wright.
