HBC MAGAZINE© REPORTS

The election turnout for today, Tuesday, November 7, 2017 isn’t expected to be very good according to the measures we use at Houston Business Connections Magazine© to gauge voter interest. One of the measures we use to help predict voter interest is the “IN-PERSON” Early Voter Turnout. In case you don’t know, Harris County has well over 2 Million registered voters. However, only 46,224 early voters chose to get off their tails during the early voting period – which lasted from Monday, October 23, 2017 to Friday, November 3, 2017. Look, every vote will matter today, so just remember that: “OUR VOTE GIVES OUR HOPE LIFE!” -- Arthur J. Smith, founder of the “NON-PARTISAN VOTER REGISTRATION DEPOT” in Houston’s historic 5th Ward!

In case you haven’t heard, Antonio W. Maldonado has released his recommendations for the Tuesday, November 7, 2017 General and Special Elections. I really like the fact that he’s endorsing Pretta Vandible Stallworth in the race for HCCS Board Trustee for District IX and Robert Glaser in the race for HCCS Trustee for District V. Both of these candidates value and respect the vote of every voter without respect to their party affiliation, ethnicity, creed, or socio-economic status.

Monica Flores Richart, (left) Elizabeth Santos, and Gretchen Himsl are the candidates running for HISD Trustee for District I on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. In the race for HISD District 1: (I) Elizabeth Santos is the choice Maldonado went with. STATEMENT FROM AUBREY: I think that Elizabeth Santos is a viable candidate, but I believe that Gretchen Himsl is the candidate to watch in the race for HISD District I on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.

Carlos Perrett, (left) Sergio Lira, (middle) Rodolfo (Rudy) Reyes and Jesse A. Rodriguez (right) are the candidates running for HISD Trustee for District III on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. In the race for HISD District 3: (III) Jesse Rodriguez Jumpin’ Jess is the choice Maldonado elected to go with. STATEMENT FROM AUBREY: While Rodriguez is a good choice, I think Sergio Lira is the candidate to watch in the race for HISD District III on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.

Susan Shafer, (left) Sue Deigaard, Kara DeRocha, and Sean Cheben are the candidates running for HISD Trustee for District V on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. In the race for HISD District 5: (V) Kara De Rocha is the choice Maldonado went with. STATEMENT FROM AUBREY: I believe Sue Deigaard is the candidate to watch in the race for HISD District V on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.

Daniel Albert, (left) Robert Lundin, and Holly Flynn Vilaseca are the candidates running for HISD Trustee for District VI on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. In the race for HISD District 6: (VI) Holly Maria Flynn Vilaseca is Maldonado’s choice. STATEMENTFROM AUBREY: I like Holly Maria Flynn Vilaseca also in this race. However, I’m expecting for Robert Lundin to mount a strong challenge in the race for HISD District VI on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.

Anne Katherine Sung, (left) the HISD Trustee for District VII is being challenged by John Luman on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. In the race for HISD District 7: (VII) Anne Sung is the candidate Maldonado elected to endorse. STATEMENT FROM AUBREY: I happen to think that this race could go either way. Both John Luman and Anne Katherine Sung are very strong candidates in the race for HISD District VII on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.

Wanda Adams, (left) the HISD Trustee for District IX is being challenged by Karla Brown and Gerry W. Monroe on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. In the race for HISD District 9: (IX) Karla Brown is the candidate Maldonado has endorsed in this race. STATEMENT FROM AUBREY: This particular race has perhaps been the hottest race on the entire 2017 ballot. I also like Dr. Karla Brown in this race. Houston City Council Member Larry V. Green also likes Dr. Karla Brown. But I wouldn’t count out Trustee Wanda Adams. She’s a veteran politician. Also, the energy and creativity put on display by Gerry Monroe this campaign cycle also has him uniquely positioned in this race. I would be very surprised if the race for HISD District IX doesn’t go to a December runoff.

Carolyn Evans-Shabazz, the HCCS Trustee for District IV is being challenged by Manny Barrera and Daniel "DC" Caldwell, on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. In the race for HCC District 4: (IV) Dr. Carolyn Evans-Shabazz is the choice Maldonado elected to go with. STATEMENT FROM AUBREY: Given her opponents, I can’t say that I disagree with Maldonado. Dr. Shabazz should win easily, however with voter turnout as low as it is – anything can happen. I would keep an eye on Manny Barrera in the race for HCC Board Trustee for District IV on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.

Robert Glaser, (right) the HCCS Trustee for District V is being challenged by Victoria Bryant (left) on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. In the race for HCC District 5: (V) Robert Glaser is Maldonado’s choice. STATEMENT FROM AUBREY: Yes, Trustee Robert Glaser has done a very good job during his first term! And he’s also a candidate who values and respects our vote!

Eugene "Gene" Pack, (right) David Jaroszewski and Pretta VanDible Stallworth (left) are the candidates running HCCS Trustee for District IX on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. In the race for HCC District 9: (IX) Pretta Vandible Stallworth has earned Antonio W. Maldonado’s endorsement. STATEMENT FROM AUBREY: If you ask me, Pretta VanDible Stallworth is one of the most qualified candidates on the entire Tuesday, November 7, 2017 ballot. And she’s also a candidate who is seeking the vote, prayers and support of every registered voter living inside the HCC District IX boundaries.
