OPEN LETTER: Cynthia Lenton-Gary, A Candidate for FBISD School Board Trustee for Position #7 Is Asking for Fort Bend County Voters to Vote for Her in the 2013 General Election in Fort Bend County

Cynthia Lenton-Gary is a candidate for FBISD Trustee for Position #7. The early voting period in the 2013 General Election in Fort Bend County is from Monday, April 29th through Tuesday, May 7th.

Cynthia Lenton-Gary Is the Candidate for FBISD Position #7 Who Is Asking For Your Support on Saturday, May 11th

Dear Fort Bend County Voters,

I am Cynthia Lenton-Gary, a long-time Resident of FBISD and former Councilmember. I would like to ask for your support on Saturday, May 11, 2013. I’m running to regain a seat on the Fort Bend Independent School District school board. I was appointed by the FBISD school board in 2010 and I’m seeking the Position 7 seat so that I can bring a listening ear, experienced leadership, and innovative policies and programs that will assist FBISD in becoming the best school district in the nation. I believe that the key to moving the county, state, and nation to the next level depends on the strength of our educational system. I am a strong advocate for parental involvement, student academic rigor, professional development for teachers, administrator accountability and smart zoning polices.

I understand the importance of the academies because my sons benefited from them. I also understand the importance of proper zoning and keeping our children in schools in their community. I realize that all children have different educational needs; therefore; we must work to fulfill them by incorporating vocational and technical programs. We must, provide options for educating our children. I also know that it is time to stop telling our teachers and Para professional what they need and start asking what is needed to help them be successful. Moral is a major issue and I will work to re-establish trust and the love for the profession in our educators because having the support of their administrators, the administration and the school board is so significant to their success in the classroom.

I have learned in both my personal and professional life the importance of fiscal responsibility. There are times when we have to make tough choices but they have to be based on priorities. Priorities help us decide between our needs and our wants. Therefore, we have to be sure there is value in what we spend tax payer’s money on. The children that our teachers are educating are going to grow up to be the doctors and nurses that take care of us, the politicians that govern us, the inventors of new technologies and medicines, the police and firemen that keep us safe, and the people that entertain us. We owe it not only to them, but ourselves to invest wisely in their future.

Before pursuing a public service profession, I worked as an environmental chemist, a research chemist and a forensic scientist. I was also a professor of Sociology at Prairie View A&M University. I have a Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics and Biology, a Masters of Arts degree in Sociology and have completed core/foundation courses for my Ph.D. I have been married for 31 years and have three sons who are graduates of FBISD. My husband is an ordained Deacon and I am an ordained Deaconess at the Fountain of Praise Church. I am also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

With my passion for education and compassion for schools, I will fight hard to be a voice and a sounding board for residents, parents, administrators, teachers, and, most importantly, all students from all areas of the district. As a fiscal conservative, I believe in austerity and will work hard to ensure your tax dollars are used to keep our schools safe, close academic achievement gaps and enhance the teaching and learning experience.

Sincerely,

Cynthia Lenton-Gary
2013 Candidate for FBISD Trustee – Position #7
