Judge Ramona Franklin Won Harris County over Judge Barbara Parker Hervey on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 in the Midterm Election

JUDGE RAMONA FRANKLIN CAME UP SHORT STATEWIDE BUT HANDILY BEAT JUDGE BARBARA PARKER HERVEY IN HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS

Congratulations to Judge Ramona Franklin for running a solid race against Judge Barbara Parker Hervey in the race for Judge, Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 7. While Judge Franklin came up short in her quest to become the first Democrat to win a statewide race since the 1994 Gubernatorial election, she did accomplish a few things I would like to point out. In case you don't know, she handily beat Judge Barbara Parker Hervey in every measurable category in Harris County, Texas. ABSENTEE BALLOTS: Ramona Franklin received 46,837 for (49.84%), and Barbara Parker Hervey received 47,142 for (50.16%). EARLY VOTES: Ramona Franklin received 410,999 for (54.73%), and Barbara Parker Hervey received 339,949 for (45.27%). ELECTION DAY VOTES: Ramona Franklin received 193,598 for (56,60%), and Barbara Parker Hervey received 148,443 for (43.40%). OVERALL TOTAL FOR HARRIS COUNTY: Ramona Franklin received a total of 651,434 votes for (54.88%) of the Harris County vote. Sharon Keller received a total of 535.534 votes for (45.12%) of the vote.

CLOSING ANALYSIS ON FRANKLIN VERSUS HERVEY

In my opinion, Ramona Franklin could have beaten Barbara Parker Hervey in Harris County, Texas back on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 – even without the benefit of straight-ticket voting. How can I say this? Well, if you subtract Ramona Franklin’s 514,758 straight ticket votes from her 651,434 overall vote total, you will see that 136,676 Harris County, voters cast their ballots specifically for Ramona Franklin over Barbara Parker Hervey. Comparatively speaking, when you subtract Barbara Parker Hervey’s 410,060 straight-ticket votes away from her 535,534 overall vote total, you will see that only 125,474 Harris County voters went into the voting booth and cast their ballot for Barbara Parker Hervey over Ramona Franklin. What does this mean? Well, at least as Harris County, Texas voters were concerned, Ramona Franklin was the best candidate in this race, and would have won this matchup (in Harris County) by approximately 11,202 votes even if straight-ticket voting had not been allowed back on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, in the midterm election in my opinion.

In case you haven’t heard, the State Bar of Texas announced results of its statewide 2018 Judicial Poll recently. Members of the State Bar of Texas were given an opportunity to vote on candidates in their respective courts of appeals races as well as statewide races. The results are in no way an endorsement of any candidate by the State Bar of Texas, its officers, directors, or staff. The results reflect the opinions of the individual lawyers who voted. “In all actuality, the lawyers are essentially the ones who know these judicial candidates best,” says Aubrey R. Taylor, publisher of Houston Business Connections Magazine©. “In my opinion, the State Bar of Texas 2018 Judicial Poll is a prestigious acknowledgment and should be cherished by every candidate recognized as winners.”

“I believe a candidate’s body of endorsements should matter, but I’m imploring voters to give credence to the final results contained in the 2018 State Bar of Texas Judicial Poll,” explains Taylor. “After all, what higher honor is there than for a judge to be deemed “THE BEST CANDIDATE” in a given race by the lawyers who practice before them on a regular basis,” asks Taylor.

...THE YEAR OF NOW IS HERE!

In case you don’t already know, 2018 HAS BEEN LABELLED AS THE YEAR OF NOW BY HOUSTON BUSINESS CONNECTIONS MAGAZINE© and it’s going to be a pivotal election year for Texas voters. For one reason, this is the last time Texas voters will be able to vote a straight-party-ticket in the Lone Star State. Not only that, the local Harris County Democratic Party and Republican Party have both fielded one of the most diverse and competitive slates of candidates that they've ever assembled in the history of their respective parties. So, Houston Business Connections Magazine© would like to take this moment to congratulate all of the candidates listed on this page for answering the call to service. Let the fight for territory begin...
