AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

There comes a time when we must put partisan politics aside and do what’s in the best interests of Harris County, Texas. That said, tomorrow, Monday, April 22, 2024, a crucial election to determine who will be responsible for determining who will oversee property evaluations in Harris County, Texas, will begin.

The HCAD Board of Directors election, which begins tomorrow, is necessary to fill three new positions after Texas voters approved property tax cuts last November. When Texas voters approved “PROPOSITION 4” last November, the homestead tax exemption was raised from $40,000 to $100,000. But many folks don’t realize that the same proposition added four-year terms to members of the appraisal entities in every county populated with more than 75,000 people.

In Harris County, Texas, “PROPOSITION 4” was passed overwhelmingly, with 78.26% of voters agreeing it was necessary.

That said, the election, which begins tomorrow, is nonpartisan, meaning there won’t be a “D” or an “R” in front of any of the names Harris County voters will find on the ballot for the HCAD Board of Directors. What does nonpartisan mean?

When an election is nonpartisan, it should be free of references to political party affiliation. Bill Frazer is the best choice in the race for HCAD Board of Directors, At-Large Position 1.

In the HCAD Board of Directors race, At-Large Position 2, Kyle Scott is the best choice. In the HCAD Board of Directors race, at-large position 3, Ericka McCrutcheon is the best choice.

“SENATE DISTRICT 15.”

As a reminder, in the race for State Senate District 15, Molly Cook is, by far, “THE BEST CANDIDATE” for Democrats to elect to fill the remainder of former State Senator John Whitmire’s term, which was left vacant when he ran for Mayor of Houston.

“CLOSING THOUGHTS.”

All Houston Business Connections Newspaper readers are strongly encouraged to vote for Molly Cook, Bill Frazer, Kyle Scott, and Ericka McCrutcheon during the “EARLY VOTING PERIOD” for the upcoming Saturday, May 4, 2024, Uniform and Special Election. Early voting will begin on Monday, April 22, 2024, and end on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, in Harris County, Texas.
