Troubling Email Sent Out by HCDP Chair Odus Evbagharu Describes 2021 School Board Candidates as QAnon Conspiracists

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "If you don't think that the stakes are high for the upcoming Tuesday, November 2, 2021, HISD School Board races you had better think again!!! Why? Well, Odus Evbagharu, the Chairman of the Harris County Democratic Party sent out an email on yesterday, Thursday, October 14, 2021, to rally Democratic voters as the start of "EARLY VOTING" approaches on Monday, October 18, 2021. Now, inside this troubling email, the Harris County Democratic Party Chairman, basically compared Caroline Walter, Kendall Baker, Bridget Wade, and Gerry Wayne Monroe to "QAnon CONSPIRACISTS" whom he claims are running for school boards all across America. Now, he didn't mention these four "DULY QUALIFIED CANDIDATES" by name, but his email had a chilling affect on me as I read over it several times. But don't take my word for it, I've posted the troubling email in it's entirety below so that you all can see how far we've fallen as a nation in the political arena."

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "In case you don't know, Odus Evbagharu, (he/him/his) is the chairman of the Harris County Democratic Party. Now, for all of you who haven't heard, Odus Evbagharu is up for re-election in the 2022 Democratic Party Primary. Anyone who would like to challenge Odus must sign up to run against him, no later than Monday, December 13, 2021, at the Harris County Democratic Party Headquarters that's located at 4619 Lyons Ave, Houston, TX 77020. You can also call the Harris County Democratic Party at (713) 802-0085 to let Chairman Evbagharu know how you feel about his troubling email."

Email from Democratic Party Chair, Odus Evbagharu Compares School Board Candidates to QAnon Conspiracists

-- EMAIL TO DEMOCRATS --

On January 6th, enraged Trump supporters fueled by QAnon conspiracies gathered at a rally in Washington, D.C., featuring a parade of high-profile Republicans like Sen. Ted Cruz and Rep. Mo Brooks.

But flying under the radar were dozens of elected Republicans who were actually part of the mob that stormed the Capitol a few hours later.

There were hundreds of elected officials from around the country, who either actively participated in the riot or used the power of their office to support the insurrectionists.

Today, even more QAnon conspiracists are running for everything from school board to city council to state rep and Congress. And they’re winning.

The good news is, yes, they CAN be stopped. But only if Democratic voters continue to show up for every election.

If we sit these elections out, we’ll soon find our school boards, councils and state houses full of fringe conspiracy theorists like the ones who targeted Congress on January 6th.

With low turnout, most local races are decided by just a few dozen votes. Even though school board races and most local elections are labeled non-partisan, there are clear differences in the candidates, and the work you are supporting could be what tips the scales in a local race.

None of our work is possible without supporters like you. From everyone here at Harris County Dems, thank you!

Odus Evbagharu, Chair
(he/him/his)
Harris County Democratic Party

You can (CLICK HERE) for directions to the park."

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "We must work together to stop the racism like what's 'alleged' to be going on right now at (HCC) Houston Community College in that $100 million dollar racial discrimination lawsuit that was filed on behalf of Black employees of HCC by Attorney Ben Hall last year. Now, do you see the guy in the photo above with the HCC hat on? Well, that's Attorney Brandon Cofield, Sr., the son of Pastor D.Z. Cofield. Now, in case you haven't heard, Attorney Brandon Cofield, Sr., is running against HCC Board Trustee Adriana Tamez on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, in the race HCC Board Trustee for District III. That being said, I totally agree with the endorsement board of (HBAD) Houston Black American Democrats, Brandon "BD" Cofield Sr., is the right choice in the race for the District III seat. So, don't forget that early voting will begin, on Monday, October 18, 2021, and end on Friday, October 29, 2021. (CLICK HERE) to learn more about the candidates who are on the ballot."

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "A vote for Attorney Brandon Cofield Sr., is a vote to stop the racism that is 'alleged' to be going on right now at (HCC) Houston Community College in that $100 million dollar racial discrimination lawsuit that's working it's way through the federal courts at this very moment."

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "In case you don't know, Attorney Brandon "BD" Cofield, Sr. has been out campaigning really hard since he announced that he was running for the (HCC) Houston Community College District III seat against incumbent HCC Trustee Adriana Tamez. Now, don't forget that Attorney Brandon "BD" Cofield, Sr. is endorsed by (HBAD) Houston Black American Democrats and a whole bunch of other organizations and community leaders on Tuesday, November 2, 2021."

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "A vote for Attorney Brandon "BD" Cofield, Sr. is a vote to stop racism at HCC!!! A guy like Brandon is desperately needed to bring "INTEGRITY" to HCC. Brandon will listen to the people! So, we need for the people to elect Brandon on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, in the race for (HCC) Houston Community College Trustee for District III."

Attorney Ben Hall (far left) filed a $100 Million Dollar Racial Discrimination Class Action Suit against Houston Community College back on Friday, June 19, 2020. The lawsuit detailed a long list of damning allegations about what he believes has been going on at Houston Community College under the leadership of Houston Community College Chancellor Cesar Maldonado (far right) and Janet May (middle), the Human Resources Director for Houston Community College."

Houston Community College Was Hit With a $100 Million Dollar Racial Discrimination Class Action Suit Last Year on Juneteenth

A $100 million dollar racial discrimination lawsuit was filed in a Houston, Texas state district court on behalf of hundreds of Black former and present employees of Houston Community College (“HCC”). The suit was filed back on Friday, June 19, 2020 – “Juneteenth — the anniversary date that Black slaves in Texas learned they had been freed from slavery two years earlier by President Abraham Lincoln. The lawsuit detailed a damning list of allegations about what was going on at Houston Community College under the leadership of Chancellor Cesar Maldonado and the Human Resources Director, Ms. Janet May. According to the lawsuit, Maldonado accepted his position in 2014 with a Hispanic “preferential treatment” agenda. The suit contains an actual email chain created shortly after Maldonado’s appointment stating “Now we [Hispanics] are going to receive preferential treatment.” The suit alleges that since Maldonado’s arrival 90% of the long-time Black professionals at HCC have either been terminated or demoted, while there has been a 50% increase in Hispanic hires and promotions. Shockingly, the suit claims, while 90% of tenured and experienced Black employees have been displaced only 10% of similarly tenured Whites have been displaced.

The lawsuit continues with a disturbing list of tactics used by Maldonado and May to get rid of Blacks, such as telling a Black male that a white woman’s word was more truthful than his word; that if a White person complains believe them, but if a Black person complains doubt them unless corroborated; “padding” Black employee personnel files with false complaints to be used later as pretexts for firing them; if a Black person is accused of sexual harassment, believe the complainant—but if the complaint is made by a Black person corroborate; using the term “transformation” as a cover for getting rid of Black employees, and forcing Black employees to take leaves of absence without cause to later use as grounds to terminate the Black employee. If these allegations are proven in court, HCC is in for a bad day at the courthouse.

The named plaintiff in the lawsuit is a 55-year old Black female, Zelia Brown, who was forced to take a leave of absence when she complained about missing grant money at the College. She reported to the federal government, the suit alleges, that the grant funds had been misused or taken. After the federal investigators notified HCC officials they were going to investigate Ms. Brown’s allegations, she was immediately told not to return to work and to stay on leave of absence. Her locked grant office is said to have been rummaged through while she was on a leave of absence. Although HCC is said to have later asked her back the return was conditioned on her accepting a false complaint that she had created a hostile work environment and presumably remain silent about the missing grant dollars. She refused to remain silent and brought the suit.

Ms. Brown is asking the court to approve a class action against HCC on behalf of all Black employees who have been terminated or demoted since Maldonado became chancellor in 2014. It is estimated the number of class members will be in the hundreds with each member seeking individual damages in the case. Ms. Brown is represented in the lawsuit by Benjamin L. Hall, III, the former Houston City Attorney under Mayor Bob Lanier and former mayoral candidate. Hall stated, “Ms. Brown is one of the more recent casualties of what appears to be a modern-day Jim Crow environment at Houston Community College for Black executives. She is a brave lady to stand up to power and speak the truth. We feel confident there are more victims of HCC’s discriminatory policies that will come forward to tell their stories as well.”

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "Attorney Ben Hall isn't playing around with (HCC) Houston Community College. What was Board Trustee Robert Glaser thinking? Get this -- there's a portion of the lawsuit that details an event where HCC Trustee Robert Glaser took the employee to a bar and after a few drinks the female became incapacitated and ended up in bed without any clothes on and with sore thighs. Man-oh-Man. The lawsuit goes on to claim that HCC Board Trustee Robert Glaser is said to have told the female afterward that he had taken her home the night before from the bar and “made out” with her. Man -- you have to read this story -- my God."

HCC, Chancellor, and Chair Hit with $15 Million Sexual Assault Suit

 - PRESS RELEASE -

HOUSTON, TX. HCC’s legal troubles are growing.  Already facing two federal racial discrimination suits filed by 100+ Black employees, the beleaguered community college and its top executives have now been hit with a graphic sexual assault suit filed by a 50-year old white female employee.  The new lawsuit alleges HCC’s Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Robert Glaser, initiated a sexual relationship with the female employee who was experiencing difficulties with her job at the college.  Glaser is alleged to have promised the female he would address issues with her supervisors and help her keep her job in exchange for sexual favors.  The suit details an event where Glaser took the employee to a bar and after a few drinks, the female became incapacitated and ended up in bed without any clothes on and with sore thighs.  Glaser is said to have told the female afterward that he had taken her home the night before from the bar and “made out” with her. The suit recounts even more graphic accounts of Glaser’s sexual misconduct, including his sending a video to the employee of him masturbating, calling the female employee on another occasion while he was masturbating at his house and asking her to stay on the phone until he “got off,” and yet another incident of his transporting her across state lines to travel with him to Washington, DC to an HCC-event for a sex-filled weekend at the St. Regis Hotel.

The suit alleges Glaser told the female he felt emboldened to ask her for sex because the Chancellor of the college, Cesar Maldonado was his personal friend and was himself having a similar sexual relationship with a married female employee at the college who was working under him.  The Chancellor’s affair with the married employee is said to have been investigated by HCC police officers whom Chancellor Maldonado threatened to fire if the investigation proceeded without him being present during the interrogation.  When the officers asked Maldonado to leave the interrogation room while they interviewed the female he refused and began coaching the female on what to say in response to the officer’s questions.  The suit alleges a police report of the incident is still in the possession of the HCC police department, but it presently has an administrative block on it to try to keep it hidden.

After Plaintiff filed an EEOC complaint against HCC, Maldonado, and Glaser, she received notice from the college that her employment contract would not be renewed.  She alleges school officials are now retaliating against her because she is revealing and trying to stop the sexual harassment and sexual exploitation of females at HCC.

The suit also identifies several instances of other male managers at the college sexually exploiting subordinate female employees and alleges HCC administrators under Maldonado have turned a blind eye to the abuse. The suit contends HCC has adopted a de facto custom, practice, and policy of allowing sexual exploitation of female employees by male employees who occupy powerful positions at the college and/or are perceived to be friends of Maldonado.

When asked about the lawsuit, the Plaintiff stated, “I am ashamed of what I had to go through at HCC just to try to keep my job.  No woman should be asked to bargain with her dignity and self-respect to make a living. Maldonado’s and Glaser’s actions need to be seriously examined, if not by the Board of Trustees then by a jury at the courthouse.”

Plaintiff is suing Maldonado, HCC, and Glaser for $15 million. A copy of the lawsuit can be found HERE!

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

Make no mistake about it, who the people of Harris County, Texas choose to give another term to in 2022 must be about substance, job performance, judicial temperament, competence, and whether or not our members of the judiciary are following the law with their rulings. And that being said, in 2022, it is incumbent upon the voters of Harris County to evaluate the job performance of each and every sitting "ELECTED OFFICIAL" on a case-by-case basis and not as a group based on their political party affiliation, ethnicity, or gender.

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "It would be awesome to see the Texas Democratic Party fully embrace a duly-qualified African American for once. Deirdre Gilbert is one of those "ONCE IN A LIFETIME CANDIDATES" who is uniquely prepared to reach far beyond the Democratic base in the upcoming 2022 Gubernatorial Election if she can get the financial support she needs."

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "While the Democratic Party is waiting for people like Beto O'Rourke and Matthew McConaughey to announce their plans, lifelong Democrat Deirdre Gilbert has emerged as the clear and decisive front-runner in the race for Governor of Texas on the Democratic side."

Deirdre Gilbert Has Emerged as the Clear Front-Runner to Win the 2022 Democratic Party Nomination for Governor of Texas

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

I’ve been watching Deirdre Gilbert’s campaign quietly gain momentum over the last couple of months. And with the continued hesitancy to commit – Former Congressman Beto O’Rourke who got totally embarrassed and exposed when he tried to run for President of the United States back during the 2020 Presidential Election – Gilbert could end up being the logical choice for Democratic primary voters looking for a duly-qualified candidate who’s fully committed to the task of taking out Republican Gov. Greg Abbott next fall.

WHY DEIRDRE IS THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR DEMOCRATIC PARTY PRIMARY VOTERS IN TEXAS

Deirdre Gilbert is the kind of Democrat who can appeal to groups beyond the Democratic party base in a general election. Her values and unique ability to communicate with people of all ethnicities and socio-economic statuses gives her a decided advantage over someone like former Congressman Beto O’Rourke in my opinion. “I want to be the voice of communities,” she recently told me in a phone interview. “I’m committed to changing minds and clearly defining my values and love for America, our U.S. Constitution, between now and Super Tuesday,” she said. “We need a governor who is committed to hearing the voices of the people and igniting discussions that lead to solutions and implementing those solutions in a manner that ultimately lead to change,” she went on to say.

IT TAKES A SPECIAL KIND OF CANDIDATE TO WIN A STATEWIDE RACE IN TEXAS

Symbolic gestures won’t work in the 2022 Midterm Elections. Did you hear me? Look, race-baiting and trying to get people to cast votes for candidates solely based upon their ethnicity is a practice that should be abandoned and abolished going forward. That being said, if any of my friends in the media would take a moment and get to know Deirdre Gilbert, they’d quickly realize that she’s actually got a plan that could resonate with people far beyond the Democratic Party’s base – which is what’s needed for Democrats to have any opportunity to turn Texas blue in 2022.

REPUBLICANS CURRENTLY HOLD EVERY STATEWIDE OFFICE IN TEXAS

As it stands right now, talk is cheap! Look, according to their website, “Texas is the strongest Republican state in the nation. The people of Texas have entrusted Republicans with the stewardship of every statewide elected office and majorities in the state senate, state house and on the state board of education. Republicans now have majorities in 107 Texas counties that contain nearly two-thirds of the state’s population. And Texas’ own George W. Bush was the 43rd President of the United States.” Did you get that? No. I mean did you really get that?

NO DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE HAS WON A STATEWIDE RACE IN TEXAS SINCE 1994

Listen!!! Unless Democrats start to fully embrace duly-qualified African American candidates, they’re going to forever get their butts kicked on the statewide level. Why? Well, in case you don’t know, according to Wikipedia.org, Texas has not even elected a Democrat for a statewide office since way back in 1994 when Bob Bullock, John Sharp, and Garry Morales, John Sharp, and Garry Mauro were re-elected as lieutenant governor, attorney general, comptroller, and land commissioner respectively.

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "As it stands right now, Deirdre Gilbert is the front-runner in the race for Governor of Texas on the Democratic Party side in my opinion. And with the filing date of Monday, December 13, 2021, quickly approaching, Democrats should put their support and money behind this duly-qualified African American woman."

DEIRDRE GILBERT IS THE KIND OF CANDIDATE DEMOCRATS SHOULD RALLY AROUND

Deirdre Gilbert has earned her M.A. in Educational Administration, her B.S. in Political Science and Mass Communication (Cum Laude) from Prairie View A&M University; she is a native Houstonian, a graduate of the public school system attending elementary, middle and high school graduating from Madison high. Deirdre has resided in Harris County for over 40 years before settling in Fort Bend County for over 10 years. Deirdre is an educator with 26 years of experience working in Houston, Aldine, and Fort Bend School Districts and is a former Houston Independent School District teacher’s union representative.

Her mother was a key influence in her life. She was a community activist and the first black woman to run for Constable in Harris County. Deirdre is best known in the community and around the country for her fight, both personally and publicly, for justice for those of medical negligence. After losing her only child, Jocelyn, because of medical negligence, Deirdre confronted the medical community and the state agencies that support it. She stood not only for herself and in memory of her daughter, but on behalf of people around the state and across the country who have felt powerless in the wake of such devastating loss.

Deirdre has worked tirelessly in her own community of Sienna Plantation, further, she’s worked on issues such as denial of voting rights in local elections within Missouri City, and MUD District issues. She has spoken before the Texas Legislature and U.S. Congress in Washington D.C on civil rights. Deirdre has helped to shape legislation regarding whistleblowers, medical malpractice, and education. Deirdre is not afraid of a battle and is willing to speak for those who are unable to speak for themselves. In addition to helping those in her community, state, local and national, she also works for a non-profit that help veterans find employment.

Deirdre has been capturing the attention of media nationally for some time. In 2007, she released her first book entitled, “Can I Just Have a Little Bit? A Little Bit of What?” Her recent work, “Momma Help Me Please,” was inspired by the first love of her life, her daughter Jocelyn.

Deirdre is an avid speaker at book clubs, churches, professional, civic and community organizations.

She has been featured in Beautifully Said Magazine and African American Newspaper; mentioned in Harper’s Magazine by Ralph Nader a strong advocate for justice, received professional recognition in Women on the Move section of the Houston Business Journal, featured in Bronze Magazine several times and in Saved Magazine along with other powerful women in ministry such as Joyce Meyers. Deirdre was mentioned in Washington Post, Stat News and several online publications regarding her stance on medical malpractice. This journey has led to the first Blog Talk Show “Life” Radio Show that focused on “victims” of medical malpractice and then rebranded with another show called “Med/Mal Radio Show-What’s Your Verdict and just recently Malpractice Diaries-MD –We Tell the Secrets they Keep.

Since 2011, Deirdre Gilbert has not backed down from her challenges, founding non-profits such as the National Medical Malpractice Advocacy Association (NMMAA), serving as its National Director, and Executive Director of the Jocelyn Y. Dickson Foundation. NMMAA is a non-partisan educational organization that was created to promote transparency, accountability and integrity in the medical profession. Through NMMAA’s educational endeavor, she advocates high standards of ethics and morality to ensure non-abuse of the powers entrusted to the profession by the American people. Under her direction, these non-profits have gained support from members of Congress, garnered attention and recognition among state lawmakers, and sparked open dialogue and inquiry into medical negligence. With her husband of 7 years, Mr. Kurt E. Gilbert, beside her, she has spoken boldly before Medical Boards, Government Agencies, the State Legislature, and the US Congress calling for repeal of TORT Reforms, review of the Information Act as it relates to medical doctors, greater accountability in the hospital industry, and Justice for All who fall victim to healthcare abuse. The core of her message is consistent, Justice for All.

Deirdre achieved a milestone twice, first when she was asked to speak at the Whistleblower’s Summit in Washington, DC 2016 and again in 2019 when she provided testimony at the Senate Judiciary Committee Hearings about the devastating effects of medical malpractice. She has spearheaded the nation’s 1st Medical Malpractice Conference that convened medical professionals, attorneys, civil rights leaders, social justice organizations, patient safety advocates and legislative leaders. Her third milestone was when she threw her hat in the political ring and decided to run for Justice of the Peace, Pct. 2, Fort Bend County, TX. Deirdre assisted with having H.R. 614 resolution filed in the Texas Legislature, recognizing Medical Malpractice in the State of Texas. In addition, Deirdre created a new initiative, “The Medical Malpractice Right to Justice Project’s mission to assist those harmed by medical negligence and who’s cases was never heard in a court of law, to bring these cases before a court based on evidence ranging from misstated/understated or erroneous death certificates, misstated/understated/overstated or erroneous expert reports, altered or falsified medical records, existence of individual, hospital, physician, and institutional agencies conflict of interest.

Deirdre Gilbert was instrumental in getting the 1st proclamation in 2013 recognizing July as Medical Malpractice Month. Since then, the organization has been given recognition from the State of Missouri’s Governor Jeremiah W. Nixon, the State of Colorado’s Governor John Hickenlooper, and the State of Georgia’s Governor Nathan Deal. The organization have also received several congressional, state and local recognition. Deirdre created the first PSA that aired on Harkins movie screens across the states September 2016, promoting and educating the public on “Preventable Medical Mistakes.” In 2019 NMMAA received the 1st Enrolled House Resolution 86 (R) HR 614 by the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas Legislature recognizing July as Medical Malpractice Month.

Deirdre Gilbert was vital in the creation of the first chapter of attorneys in the State of Louisiana and Virginia that have acquired lobbyist that handles the legislative needs of NMMAA.
