Registrar in the 2020 Democratic Primary. But Jolanda “Jo” Jones is not alone
in her desire to unseat, Ann Harris Bennett in 2020, another fellow Democrat by
the name of Jack Terence, a local property tax protester signed up back on Tuesday,
November 26, 2019, to run against Ann Harris Bennett. So, rather than standing
by and possibly watching, Ann Harris Bennett, who barely won the race for
Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector & Voter Registrar over Mike Sullivan,
a Republican back in 2016, possibly lose the Democratic nomination to Jack
Terence, Jolanda “Jo” Jones went over to the Harris County Democratic Party’s local headquarters located at 4619 Lyons Avenue in Houston, Texas on Monday,
December 9, 2019, the last day to file, and entered the race. Now with Jolanda “Jo” Jones
as the possible Democratic nominee in 2020, Democrats have the opportunity to nominate what some folks see as a stronger, more progressive candidate to face off against Chris Daniel, a very well-known Republican candidate next fall. In case you don't know Daniel, he most recently served as the Harris County District Clerk, before losing his
seat to Marilyn Burgess, back in the 2018 Midterm Election. In case for some reason you don't remember, Chris Daniel lost his bid for re-election, for the most part, because of straight-ticket voting, back when Democrats swept through Harris County, winning every countywide race on
the ballot. But as a side note, Democrats will not have the benefit of the straight-ticket
vote on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, in Harris County, Texas. So, choosing the best
nominees who can drive out the base must be a top priority for local
Democratic and Republican voters in their respective party primaries. That
being said, 2020 Democratic nominees won’t enjoy the 105,158 straight-ticket voting advantage they enjoyed over their Republican counterparts back in the 2018
Midterm Election in Harris County, Texas. Nor will the 2020 Democratic Nominees
enjoy the 70,367 straight-ticket voting advantage they enjoyed over their
Republican counterparts back in the 2016 Presidential Election in Harris
County, Texas. Nope, the 2020 Presidential Election, at least as it relates to
Harris County, Texas will be “ALL ABOUT THE BALLOT MATCHUPS” going forward. So, both major political
parties had better focus their complete and undivided attention on putting
forth the "BEST-QUALIFIED" list of nominees possible to have any chance at sweeping
Harris County, Texas in the 2020 Presidential Election.

Does the name Ann Harris Bennett sound familiar? If not, you
haven’t been engaged in the political, or voting process for too long. Ann
Harris Bennett is the current Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector & Voter
Registrar, and she’s up for re-election in the 2020 Presidential Election. Poor
Ann, she can’t catch a break. You would think that after running for office as
many times as she has, and losing, that she would have caught a break in her
first bid for re-election to remain on the job, but nope, she’s caught two
challengers, and not any ole’ challengers either. Get this, to remain in
office, Ann Harris Bennett will have to beat back challenges from former
Houston City Councilwoman, and HISD Trustee Jolanda “Jo” Jones, and Jack
Terrence, a local property tax protester, which won’t be an easy task. And even
if she happens to hold off her two fellow Democratic rivals on Tuesday, March
3, 2020, in the Democratic Party Primary race for Harris County Tax Collector &
Voter Registrar she won’t be out of the woods. Why? I’m glad you asked. Former
Harris County District Clerk, Chris Daniel a Republican, is waiting in the
wings to face the Democratic nominee. And he’s hungry for a win after losing
his position as the Harris County District Clerk to Marilyn Burgess, a Democrat, back in
the 2018 Midterm Election for Harris County, Texas.

JOLANDA JONES STEPS UP TO THE PLATE TO REPLACE FELLOW DEMOCRAT ANN HARRIS BENNETT
Since a lot of folks out here could be asking themselves, “what
in the heck is wrong with Jolanda?” I’m going to try to answer this question for
you. First off, no elected position belongs to anybody. We live in a Democracy,
so, anyone who desires to run for office has a right to do so. And in my
opinion, a little friendly competition keeps elected officials on their toes.
Anyways, while Ann Harris Bennett is, in fact, the Democratic incumbent, she’s
not a lock to hold on to her position as the Harris County Tax Assessor
Collector – even if she’s able to hold off her two Democratic challengers on Tuesday,
March 3, 2020. Why? Well, there’s no more straight-ticket voting in the state
of Texas. Why is this significant? Hold your horses I’m about to tell you. In
case you don’t remember, back on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, in the Presidential
Election, Ann Harris Bennett and every other Democrat running countywide in
Harris County enjoyed a 70,367 straight-ticket voting advantage over their
Republican counterparts. How? Well, 472,030 Democrats voted a straight-ticket
in the 2016 Presidential Election in Harris County. Comparatively speaking,
only 401,663 Republicans voted a straight-ticket back in the 2016 Presidential
Election for Harris County. So, what Jolanda “Jo” Jones could have identified was a weakness in the face of pending opposition if you ask me. Now, do not go back and tell Ann
Harris Bennett that I am talking negatively about her because I’m
not.

TAX ASSESSOR-COLLECTOR ANN HARRIS BENNETT RAN FOR OFFICE MANY TIMES BEFORE SHE WON
A lot of folks don’t know this, but after being given a
70,367 straight-ticket vote advantage back in 2016 in her showdown with Mike Sullivan,
who was the incumbent at the time, Ann Harris Bennett nearly lost to Sullivan,
the Republican. She actually almost give up a 70,367 straight-ticket vote lead? Can you believe that? I’m not joking around. Get this, after receiving 70,367 fewer straight-ticket votes than his challenger,
Ann Harris Bennett, he, (Mike Sullivan) beat Ann Harris Bennett in every other phase of the election process other
than “ELECTION DAY” turnout. Mike Sullivan beat Ann Bennett in the “ABSENTEE
BALLOT” phase by receiving 48,291 “ABSENTEE BALLOTS”, while Ann Harris Bennett
could only muster 47,545 “ABSENTEE BALLOTS” back in 2016. Mike Sullivan also
beat Ann Harris Bennett during the “EARLY VOTING” period by receiving 429,782 “EARLY
VOTES” back in 2016. As for Ann Harris Bennett, she only received 425,675
“EARLY VOTES” in her quest to take down Mike Sullivan back in 2016. However, on
“ELECTION DAY” when it mattered the most, Harris County voters came through for Ann
Harris Bennett, as she received 175,023 votes, compared to the 162, 067 votes received by
Mike Sullivan. So, after receiving a 70,367 straight-ticket vote advantage back
in 2016, Ann Harris Bennett ended up only beating Mike Sullivan by 8,103 votes – which made
her one of the weakest Democratic candidates running countywide on the entire 2016 Presidential Election
ballot for Harris County, Texas. Why? Well, after straight-ticket voting Democrats gave Ann Harris Bennett
a 70,367 straight-ticket vote lead over Sullivan, she barely held on to win! In
case you aren’t good with math, Mike Sullivan made up 62,264 votes on Ann
Harris Bennett – which brings me back to why Jolanda “Jo” Jones elected to run
against Ann Harris Bennett. Look, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see
that if it were not for straight-ticket voting Ann Harris Bennett would not
even be the Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector & Voter Registrar. So, what
Jolanda “Jo” Jones more than likely did was conduct an assessment of Ann Harris Bennett’s past election
bids and came to the conclusion that she, (Ann Harris Bennett) would lose the
seat to a Republican, without the benefit of straight-ticket voting in 2020. I know by
now you’re wondering what the heck I’m talking about. So, in closing, I will leave you with this, back in
the Tuesday, November 8, 2016, Presidential Election, Ann Harris Bennett barely
won the race for Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector over Mike Sullivan, the
Republican, after being handed a 70,367 straight-ticket vote advantage. Back in
the Tuesday, November 4, 2014, Midterm Election, Ann Harris Bennett ran for Harris
County Clerk against Stan Stanart and lost. Back in the 2012 Presidential
Election, Ann Harris Bennett ran for Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector
against Mike Sullivan, the Republican, and a Libertarian candidate by the name
of Jesse Hopson and lost. Her 2012 loss is even more significant because this was during
President Barack Obama’s re-election bid. And finally, back in the Tuesday, November 2,
2010, Midterm Election, Ann Harris Bennett ran for Harris County Clerk against
Stan Stanart, the Republican, and some Green Party candidate by the name of Don
Cook and lost. Now look, please do not go around claiming that I’ve written this report to
help, or hurt anyone, I’m simply the messenger, delivering a message – so please don’t shoot the messenger!

Former Harris County District Clerk Chris Daniel could be hard to beat in 2020, especially since straight-ticket voting has been abolished in Texas. Daniel is running unopposed in the Tuesday, March 3, 2020, Republican Primary. Therefore he will be their nominee on Tuesday, November 3, 2019, when the Presidential Election rolls around. In his losing bid to retain his seat back in the 2018, Midterm Election in Harris County, Texas Chris Daniel faced a 105,158 straight-ticket vote deficit and was not able to make up the difference.
