AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

Decisions. Decisions. Decisions. I’m elated that the City of Houston will be participating in the 2019 MLK Festivities, but disappointed to announce that once again, there will be two competing Martin Luther King, Jr. Parades in the Bayou City on Monday, January 21, 2019. In case you don’t know, Mayor Sylvester Turner announced his support for the 41st MLK Parade back on Thursday, July 12, 2018, saying that the City of Houston will partner with the Black Heritage Society, which organized the nation’s first Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade more than 40 years ago. So, if you would like to attend what Mayor Sylvester Turner is considering HOUSTON’S OFFICIAL MLK PARADE” it’s scheduled to start at Houston City Hall at the corner of Smith and McKinney at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 21, 2019 rain or shine!

This year, the organizers of the MLK Grande Parade are expecting more than 300,000 spectators with a viewing audience of more than 4,000,000 according to their website. And just in case you don’t know, over 30 Marching Bands are expected to participate in the 25th Annual MLK Grande Parade scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 21, 2019, at the corner of San Jacinto Street and Elgin Street.
