Mike May (Republican), didn't have any money left in his campaign account, according to his most recently filed campaign finance report. So, why did he even file a lawsuit to challenge the election in the first place? As you can see above, there is "ZERO" showing in the CASH ON HAND column. And Mike May has $22,900.04 in the OUTSTANDING LOAN column. You can "CLICK HERE" to view this report.
Sec. 241.0061. SECURITY FOR COSTS. (a) Not later than the third day after the date the contestee's answer is received by the presiding officer of the house having jurisdiction, the contestant must file with the secretary of the senate or chief clerk of the house of representatives, as appropriate:
(1) a cost bond payable to the appropriate house and to the contestee in the amount of $5,000, having sufficient sureties approved by the presiding officer, and conditioned that the contestant will pay all costs of the contest assessed against the contestant;
(2) a cash deposit in lieu of bond; or
(3) an affidavit of inability to pay costs.
(b) Security for costs must be filed under Subsection (a), and an affidavit of inability to pay costs may be contested, in the manner generally applicable to a civil suit in the district court, subject to any changes imposed by the master or by rules of the house having jurisdiction.
Harris County Democratic Party Chairman Odus Evbagharu incorrectly tried to frame Mike May's inability to pay the security costs associated with filing his election challenge as some sort of victory on the merits by local Democrats who are involved in the remaining lawsuits.
AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©
The chairman of the Harris County Democratic Party (Odus Evbagharu) is ignorant, selfish, and bad for politics. And on top of that, he’s a complete embarrassment to Black People. Why am I speaking this harshly about Odus Evbagharu on the eve of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s National Holiday? Well, because Odus Evbagharu ignorantly sent out an email the other night, praising the fact that Dade Phelan (Speaker of the Texas House) had thrown out the lawsuit that Mike May (Republican), had filed with the Secretary of State, to challenge his election loss, to state Rep. Jon Rosenthal (Democrat), who happens to be Odus Evbagharu’s boss.
In his asinine email, Odus Evbagharu stated, “Mike May, the losing Republican candidate for HD135 who challenged the results of his election, lost his battle on Wednesday when the Texas House Speaker dismissed his election contest petition, citing “failure to timely file security costs.”
Before I go any further, for those of you who don’t know, asinine simply means extremely or utterly foolish or silly. But to put it bluntly, Odus Evbagharu, the chairman of the Harris County Democratic Party made an ass out of himself, by incorrectly trying to frame Mike May’s inability to timely pay the security cost fees associated with his “ELECTION CONTEST” to some sort of “VICTORY” for Democrats.
Evbagharu went on to ignorantly boast, “May’s failure to pay the fees were an ironic illustration of just how capable he would have been as a representative had his contest been fruitful.”
And then, in his stupidity, the Harris County Democratic Party Chairman (Odus Evbagharu), tried to compare, Mike May’s lawsuit getting tossed because he couldn’t afford to timely pay the security costs, to the other twenty lawsuits filed by countywide Republican candidates. “This is exactly what we were expecting,” said Harris County Democratic Party Chair Odus Evbagharu.
“These baseless accusations pushed by desperate candidates like May continue to fuel election denialism in Texas,” he said. But that’s where Evbagharu is showing his stupidity and complete bias. There’s a big difference between a lawsuit being tossed on a technicality and one being tossed because it was filed frivolously, or without merit.
I thought the Harris County Democratic Party was fighting against “VOTER SUPPRESSION” and “VOTER DISENFRANCHISEMENT” and protecting the civil rights of voters. Is it all a lie?
Why would the chairman of the Harris County Democratic Party be hoping for lawsuits to be thrown out of court because of technicalities, rather than because they were meritless?
I’m telling you Odus Evbagharu is a horrible leader. He’s selfish, ignorant, and an embarrassment to Black people, and the entire Harris County Democratic Party.
Evbagharu closed out his statement by saying, “We hope to see the same results with the Election-denying lawsuits happening against our candidates, who were fairly elected and sworn in to fulfill their constitutional duties.”
Now, all of that being said, I’ve done a little digging and I’ve figured out why Odus Evbagharu sent out that asinine email the other day. The current chairman of the Harris County Democratic Party (Odus Evbagharu), and the previous chairman of the Harris County Democratic Party (Lillie Schechter) are both in state Senator Jon Rosenthal’s payroll and have been for some time.
So, win, lose, or draw, Odus Evbagharu doesn’t give a damn about right, or wrong, what he cares about is protecting his selfish interests. In other words, if state Rep. Jon Rosenthal’s victory had been overturned, Odus Evbagharu the current chairman of the Harris County Democratic Party and former Harris County Democratic Party Chairman Lillie Schechter who own Bayou City Strategies would have lost their cash cow. But don’t take my word for it, I’ve brought receipts.
State Rep. Jon Rosenthal (HD-135), and the current Harris County Democratic Party Chairman have a really good thing going. Remember, Odus Evbagharu doesn't get paid to serve as chairman of the Harris County Democratic Party. And State Rep. Rosenthal (HD-135), as of October 1, 2022, only makes $7,200 per year as a state representative. That being said, here's a little money trail for your to follow between former Harris County Chairman Lillie Schechter, current Harris County Democratic Party Chairman Odus Evbagharu, and state Rep. John Rosenthal that pretty much covers the 2022 Midterm Election cycle.
FOLLOW THE MONEY
"What you have to understand is that serving as the chairman of the Harris County Democratic Party, and the Harris County Republican Party, is an unpaid paid position. And on top of it being unpaid, it’s also a thankless position, in many regards. That being said, a lot of wheeling and dealing takes place behind the scenes."
