Mayor Sylvester Turner is all smiling and everything as early voting enters the final two days, but the ill-effects of not having the Houston City Council District B runoff race on the Saturday, December 14, 2019, ballot are beginning to show. And if that isn't bad enough, what was supposed to be “A SUPER SUNDAY” didn’t amount to much as only 3,443 in-person votes were cast in the entire City of Houston on Sunday, December 8, 2019, for these runoffs. In case you don’t know, fewer people turned out to vote early on the only Sunday of early voting for these runoffs than turned out back on Sunday, October 27, 2019, for the only Sunday of early voting for the general election. What does this mean? Well, the "ROLL TO THE POLLS" that was supposed to take place and spearheaded Black pastors who were supposed to encourage churchgoers to get to the polls after worship services didn’t produce much of a bump for Mayor Turner at all. Look, back in the general election, a total of 3,829, in-person voters showed up at the polls on the only Sunday of the early voting cycle, which was still a dismal showing with the number of Black churches in Houston. So, as Tony Buzbee continues to pick up African American support, especially among Black women, he appears to be keeping pace with Mayor Sylvester Turner as they enter the stretch run in what is shaping up to be a more competitive runoff race than many pundits or party-bosses anticipated. So, don’t forget that early voting will continue through Tuesday, December 10, 2019, with election day voting taking place on Saturday, December 14, 2019.
Tony Buzbee Appears to Be Keeping Pace with Mayor Sylvester Turner as Support for Buzbee in the Black Community Continues to Grow Down the Home Stretch
AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©
Win, lose, or draw, a man should be able to depend on the place where he was born and raised to support his efforts. But for some reason, Mayor Turner’s birthplace is not, and I repeat is not showing up at the polls to support his re-election bid in the numbers they should be as he seeks a second and final term as Houston's mayor. Get this, through the first eight days of early voting back in the Tuesday, November 5, 2019, general election, 1,779 in-person votes were cast at the Acres Homes Multi-Service Center. What about the runoffs? I’m glad you asked. In this runoff election between Mayor Sylvester Turner and Tony Buzbee, 1,808 in-person early votes have been cast through the first eight days of early voting at the Acres Homes Multi-Service Center. What’s my point? Well, only (29) twenty-nine, yes, only twenty-nine, more Houstonians have voted in person through the first eight days of early voting at the Acres Homes Multi-Service Center located at 6719 West Montgomery Road in Houston, Texas. That’s a major problem. However, this problem could be the result of not having the Houston City Council District B city council race on the ballot for the Saturday, December 14, 2019, runoff election.
FACEBOOK LIKES ARE NOT VOTES
Facebook likes and twitter feeds are not an indication of which candidate is winning what is expected to be a fight to the finish in the Saturday, December 14, 2019, runoff election race for Mayor of Houston between Tony Buzbee and Mayor Sylvester Turner. And these social platforms are certainly no way to measure which way African Americans are voting in this election either. Nope! Tony Buzbee’s campaign is continuing to build momentum among African Americans from what I can see. And nope! I’m not making this stuff up! The Saturday, December 14, 2019, runoff election between Tony Buzbee and Mayor Sylvester Turner will be decided at the ballot box on Saturday, December 14, 2019. And while a whole bunch of folks believes it’s a foregone conclusion that Mayor Sylvester Turner is going to win in a landslide, the numbers through eight days of early voting paint a much different picture. Especially when you see the folks over in Kingwood holding their own against what’s happening at the Metropolitan Multi-Service Center. And with the numbers in predominantly African American areas showing virtually no surge at all, Turner versus Buzbee 2.0 is starting to get very interesting. So, in short, this runoff election race for Mayor of Houston between Tony Buzbee and Mayor Sylvester Turner could be anybody’s race from what I can see at this point.
WEST GRAY VERSUS KINGWOOD
Through eight days of early voting 7,910 in-person ballots have been cast at the Metropolitan Multi-Service Center located at 1475 West Gray Street in Houston, Texas. But over in Kingwood, 6,038 in-person votes have been cast through the first eight days of early voting for these runoffs. What’s the problem? Well, this number represents a huge surge in voting in Kingwood, and this surge in voting is definitely going to benefit Tony Buzbee in my opinion. How huge of a surge are we looking at in Kingwood? Well, back through the first eight days of early voting for the general election, only 3,158 in-person votes had been cast in Kingwood. So, almost twice as many votes have been cast in Kingwood alone for this runoff election between Tony Buzbee and Mayor Sylvester Turner. So, while there’s also what looks like a surge at the “WEST GRAY” location as well, those numbers could be coming in a little differently than what we’ve come to expect at the “WEST GRAY” location.
ANOTHER LOCATION TO WATCH
I am looking at a similar surge in voting at the Freeman Branch Library, which is a solidly conservative area very similar to Kingwood. How large is the surge? Well, back in the general election through the first eight days of early voting, 2,704 in-person votes were cast. However, during the first eight days for these runoffs, 3,575 in-person votes have been cast. Why is this significant? Well, in runoff elections the voting typically goes down, but what we are seeing in conservative areas is an increase, not a decrease.

“Mean Gene” Hill Shares His Thoughts on the Mayor's Race with Aubrey R. Taylor
I’ve been saying for months now, that support for Tony Buzbee in the Black Community is continuing to grow. I’m not just making this stuff up. I am not sure why nobody else is talking about this. To this end, I recently asked Eugene “Mean Gene” Hill a professional heavyweight boxer with a record of 34 wins and 2 losses to share a few thoughts about his friendship with Tony Buzbee.
AUBREY R. TAYLOR: How long have you and Tony Buzbee been friends?
MEAN GENE: “Tony and I have been friends since 2007. It began with him sponsoring me in my boxing career and a solid friendship grew from there, now we are like family.”
AUBREY R. TAYLOR: How do you feel about your friend Tony Buzbee running for mayor of Houston?
MEAN GENE: “I'm excited for him. I can say that Tony has Houston's best interest at heart. He didn't have to run for mayor, but he feels strongly about doing all he can to help improve a city that he loves so much.”
AUBREY R. TAYLOR: What would you say to the Houstonians who are (still undecided) about whether to vote for Tony Buzbee or Mayor Sylvester Turner?
MEAN GENE: “Turner has shown Houston what he can do and what his priorities are. I'd ask the (undecided) voters if they were happy with what they've seen.
I don't think there is a PERFECT person, but there is the BEST person for the position as the mayor of Houston. Tony has always fought for the people, as he's shown this time and time again, as a United States Marine, as a lawyer, and as a human being.
Campaign speeches, commercials, and politics aside... Just look at the depth in which both candidates have demonstrated as it relates to improving the quality of life for people. You will clearly see that Tony's level of commitment and sacrifice for the people far surpasses that of Turner.”
