AUBREY R. TAYLOR: “I ran across this photo of Judge Joel Clouser and his wife on my Facebook newsfeed on the last day of early voting — touching isn’t it? Go Lynn Go!!!

Sometimes A Picture is Much More Powerful Than a Thousand Words

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

On Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at 6:39 am, I logged into my Facebook account and the first thing that popped up was this very heart-warming photo of Judge Joel C. Clouser, Sr. and his lovely wife standing at Missouri City Hall with their masks on waiting for voters to show up in support of their daughter Lynn Clouser who is the only candidate endorsed by Houston Business Connections Newspaper© in the ongoing runoff election that will culminate on Saturday, December 12, 2020. I know that the Clouser’s are in a unique situation, given campaign laws that prohibit Judge Clouser from endorsing his daughter in her quest to unseat Councilman Chris Preston in the At-Large Position #2 race for City Council in “The Show Me City.” Man, that’s got to be tough – especially since their daughter Lynn needs every vote she can get.

LYNN IS THE FRONT-RUNNER

The million-dollar question for many Missouri City, Texas voters heading into Saturday, December 12, 2020, is whether or not Lynn Clouser will unseat Councilman Chris Preston who has, until now, mastered the art of winning runoff elections. Why did I say until now? Well, I’m saying this, because Councilman Preston barely escaped defeat against his last African American female opponent (Cynthia Lenton Gary) by the mere margin of (9) nine votes. Yes, you heard me right, he only beat Cynthia Lenton Gary by nine votes. But there’s a big difference between the approach that was used by Cynthia Lenton Gary and the one instituted by Lynn Clouser. How can I say this? Well, for first off, back on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, Lynn Clouser shook things up by finishing several thousand votes ahead of Councilman Chris Preston in the final vote tally. For those of you who don’t remember, Councilman Chris Preston only received 11,945 votes, for 42.17% of the vote, while Clouser racked up 13,332 votes, for 47.07% of the vote. And the third-place finisher, James Mable pulled in 3,046 votes for 10.75% of the vote. So, that being said, Lynn Clouser, positioned herself and the front-runner in the At-Large Position #2 race in my opinion.

RUNOFF BY THE NUMBERS

Finishing first in the general election is one thing, but pulling off a runoff election victory against Councilman Preston on Saturday, December 12th is something else altogether. Especially, when you have the Fort Bend County Democratic Chair, Cynthia M. Ginyard out there endorsing your opponent. But where do things stand right now, heading into Election Day? Well, it’s tough to say, but I would be really surprised if Lynn Clouser doesn’t defeat Councilman Chris Preston by a wide margin on Saturday. But, even with that said, I’ve learned over the years – to make it a point to have my clients run like they’re 10-points down. After all, you can’t take anything for granted in this business. And while Lynn Clouser’s Campaign was very limited in their “RUNOFF ELECTION BUDGETING” due to COVID-19 wreaking havoc on Fort Bend County, her name identification has uniquely positioned in this race. And from looking at the early voting numbers, if they hold to form, I believe that Lynn Clouser could be ahead. How can I say this? Well, at a glance I have a hard time fathoming the notion that Councilman Preston ran up huge numbers at the Missouri City Community Center (early voting location), or the Quail Valley Fund Office (early voting location), against Lynn Clouser. In case you don’t know, 2,421 voters cast their vote in-person at the Missouri City Community Center, and 3,537 voters cast their vote early in-person at the Quail Valley Fund Office between Monday, November 30, 2020, and Tuesday, December 8, 2020.

ABSENTEE BALLOT COUNT

The absentee mail-in ballots are a little scary. Why? Well, even with COVID-19 wreaking havoc on Fort Bend County, I’m still hearing a lot of chatter around the subject of “ABSENTEE BALLOT HARVESTING” taking place. I hope not, but if we see a lopsided return in the mail-in ballots, I’m going to investigate them. Anyways, according to the Fort Bend County Election Administrator, there was 4,508 absentee ballot requested, and of those, 2,211 of the absentee ballots requested have been returned so far.

In closing, I would like to respectfully ask, all eligible Missouri City voters to cast their ballot for Lynn Clouser in the race At-Large Position #2 City Council runoff race on Saturday, December 12, 2020.

Grady Prestage, the current Fort Bend County Commissioner for Precinct 2 has endorsed Lynn Clouser in the race Missouri City, Texas — At-Large Position #2 seat on Sat., Dec. 12, 2020.

Jeffrey L. Boney, a current City Councilman has endorsed Lynn Clouser in the race for the Missouri City — At-Large Position #2 City Council seat in the Saturday, December 12, 2020 runoff election.

THE BRAINS

I’m the President/CEO of Aubrey R. Taylor Communications, the publisher of Houston Business Connections Newspaper©. In case you don’t know, I have 30-years of experience in marketing, branding, investigative reporting, public relations, opposition research, and political consulting. I’ve assisted in branding Republican and Democratic candidates in statewide elections and local municipalities throughout the State of Texas. Over the years, I’ve also assisted in branding and marketing (through my various publications) such corporations and institutions as Shell Oil, The City of Houston, Texas A&M University, Texas Southern University, Prairie View A&M University, Chevron, Waste Management, Nationwide Insurance, Momentum Jaguar/BMW, Channel 11, Channel 13, State Farm Insurance, and Allstate Insurance to name a few.

EXPERIENCED REPORTER

I would have you to know that not everyone who has been accused of a crime or enters a guilty plea in connection with a crime is guilty of the crime they're accused of committing. Neither is everyone who goes to trial to fight charges that are leveled against them and get's convicted are guilty. Look, over the years, some very bad things have happened to people of color in our criminal justice system. So to this end, please understand, that during my career, I’ve gone into the Harris County Jail and Texas prisons on numerous occasions (on secret assignments) working in conjunction with the owner of one of the largest locally owned private security, and investigations firms. The man who was funding my investigations back then (who mysteriously died) also was the godfather of one of my sons, and the backer of one of my publications. That being said, I can straight-faced assure you that I’ve seen some of the injustices that are occurring in the Texas penal system up close and personal. While on the inside, I interviewed (face-to-face) some of the hardest criminals you can imagine for my research. I also discovered first-hand that many of the people who should be locked up are walking around free, and not all of those who are locked behind bars are guilty of the crimes that they, in some cases pleaded guilty to – for whatever reason. So, let me assure you that I know a criminal when I see one. And we have a handful of local elected officials who are straight-criminals and must be stopped!!!

PEOPLE OVER POLITICS

Based on my direct observations over the years, I can attest to the fact that our current criminal justice system is more about “HAVE’S AND HAVE NOT’S” to a greater degree than most people realize.  That being said, sure, in some cases, the skin color of the person being accused of a crime plays a role in who gets indicted and eventually convicted of crimes and those who go free. However, at the end of the day, from observing the system from the inside, and out; having money, good legal representation and access to influential people are unfortunately key determining factors when it comes to who will spend the rest of their life walking around with an “X” on their back and who doesn’t. So, to this end, we must endeavor to change our criminal justice system and political landscape by “TAKING POLITICS OUT” of the way our judges are selected in the Lone Star State – that’s very important to me!
