Please don't forget that Mark Alan Harrison is asking for your vote in his runoff showdown against Randal Newman. Yes, the coronavirus (COVID-19) is a cause for concern. Yes, this pandemic should be taken seriously. But candidates must find creative ways to keep their names out there or risk losing the momentum they've built up to make it to this point. I can't stress the importance of this enough. So, times like these are when leaders emerge. Our leaders should not be panicking right now. This is the time when leaders must step up and prove their worth. Just yesterday, Gilberto Hinojosa sent a letter to the Texas Secretary of State, Ruth R. Hughs. In his letter, he is demanding that the Saturday, May 2, 2020, Citywide General Elections, and Tuesday, May 26, 2020, Democratic and Republican runoffs be converted to "UNIVERSAL MAIL-BALLOT" elections. Under Hinojosa's plan, every County Clerk across the Lonestar state would mail an "ABSENTEE BALLOT" to every registered voter within their county. While this is a great way to ensure that our elections continue as scheduled, an all "MAIL BALLOT" election could also favor runoff candidates who know how to skirt around current election laws -- you know the ones who have relationships with the nursing homes, retirement communities, and absentee ballot harvesters. That's a story for another day! However, I want you guys to know that "MAIL BALLOTS" are the easiest way for rogue candidates and criminal enterprises to steal elections and remain in power. In fact, I recently ran across an article published by the National Election Defense Coalition that stated, "Many popular vote-by-mail and absentee systems are ripe for fraud and abuse." I can't say that I disagree! In fact, the article went on to say state that a lack of transparency, lack of security, opportunities for voter intimidation, and high levels of ballot mishandling are some of the reasons to limit these voting systems to serve only those who absolutely require them. A quote by the New York Times kinda sums it up best, "Votes cast by mail are less likely to be counted, more likely to be compromised and more likely to be contested than those cast in a voting booth, statistics show," the quote stated.
