2018 Republican and Democratic Candidates in Texas Are Receiving Donations from the NFLPA One Team PAC for the Midterm Election

Congressman Will Hurd (left), is a Republican incumbent running for re-election for the 23rd Congressional District of Texas, and Colin Allred (right), is a Democratic candidate challenging Republican incumbent Congressman Pete Sessions in the race for the 32nd Congressional District of Texas. Both Hurd and Allred recently received donations from the NFLPA One Team PAC to assist with their Tuesday, November 6, 2018, congressional bids in the Lone Star State.

NFL Players Have A Lot More on Thier Mind than Kneeling During the National Anthem in 2018; Non-Partisan Political Donations Are Starting to Flow into Texas Says Aubrey R. Taylor, Publisher of Houston Business Connections Newspaper©

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS

I’ve said all along that kneeling at football games during the national anthem could only do so much as it pertains to beating back the injustices happening to African Americans and other minorities across America. Yes, protests have their place and have been very useful in the fight for civil rights. And Yes, protesting and petitioning the government can be effective at times. But getting involved in the political process is the best, and the most effective way to bring about lasting change in America. In that same vein, "CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM" and many of the other hot-button issues during this election cycle isn't some sort of fallacy. Nor does it have to be something that's talked about in terms of wishful thinking, or something sitting off somewhere in the Wild Blue Yonder. Nope, I'm of the opinion that we can bring about the lasting change we so desperately need and desire by making it our business to elect the "BEST QUALIFIED CANDIDATES" who value us at the ballot box. And to this end, what the NFL Player’s Association PAC is doing in a non-partisan fashion should be commended as an awesome step in the right direction.

TWO TEXAS CONGRESSIONAL RACES

In case you don’t already know, the NFL Players Association PAC has sent $5,000 to Will Hurd, a Republican Congressman running for re-election for the 23rd Congressional District of Texas against Democrat Gina Ortiz Jones on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. And they’ve also given the same amount of $5,000 to Colin Allred, the Democrat who is challenging Congressman Pete Sessions in his re-election bid for the 32nd Congressional District of Texas.

A FEW DONATIONS IN OTHER STATES

The NFLPA One Team PAC has also given Anthony Gonzalez, a Republican, money to assist him in his quest to win the seat being vacated by Congressman Jim Renacci in Ohio’s 16th Congressional District. Gonzales will be facing off against Democrat, Susan Moran Palmer on Tuesday, November 6, 2018.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell also received donations from the NFLPA One Team PAC recently.

DON’T FORGET TO VOTE EARLY

It is imperative that we make it our business to elect the “BEST QUALIFIED CANDIDATES” who value our vote when we go to the polls. And don’t forget to vote early. The early voting period will begin on Monday, October 22, 2018, and end on Friday, November 2, 2018 – ALL VOTES MATTER!

Only 971 Votes Separated President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney in Harris County With Over 1,188,585 Votes Cast back in 2012

A look back at the Tuesday, November 6, 2012 showdown between Former President Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee and Mitt Romney, his Republican challenger provides us a glimpse into how evenly matched the two major political parties are in Harris County, Texas. In case you don’t remember, a total of 1,188,585 votes were cast back in the Tuesday, November 6, 2012, Presidential Election in Harris County, Texas. However, after the smoke had cleared, only 971 votes separated the Democratic and Republican "PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEES" in Harris County, Texas. As a refresher, the ticket of Barack Obama/Joe Biden received 587,044 total votes in Harris County, Texas back on Tuesday, November 6, 2012. And comparatively speaking, the ticket of Mitt Romney/Paul Ryan received 586,073 votes in Harris County, Texas back on Tuesday, November 6, 2012. And in case you're wondering, 406,991 Harris County Democrats voted a straight-ticket back in 2012, and 404,165 Harris County Republicans voted a straight-ticket. So, as Tuesday, November 6, 2018 approaches, every warm-blooded Texan needs to be telling all their family, friends, associates, and passers-by that "EVERY VOTE MATTERS" and reminding them that early voting will begin on Monday, October 22, 2018, and end on Friday, November 2, 2018, in Harris County, Texas.

Harris County Declared Battleground Central in Texas by Aubrey R. Taylor, Publisher of Houston Business Connections Newspaper©

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

The talking heads are talking. And the political pundits are pondering, but what happened in Ohio's 12th Congressional District last night isn't something that can be ignored by Harris County Democrats or Republicans in my opinion. The fact that a Democrat nearly won in a Congressional District they haven't carried in more than 40 years is proof positive that America is at a crossroads. And Americans are sending a strong message, but what is the message? It's all guesswork right now in my opinion. However, what we do know for certain is that Danny O'Connor, a Democrat ran the race of his life, to garner 49.3 percent or 99,820 votes, while the Republican, Troy Balderson was able to muster 50.2 percent or 101,574 votes in what has traditionally been a reliably red district. Now, the race isn’t over just yet, but no matter what happens from here, Democrats and Republicans alike need to understand that neither, Barack Obama, Mitt Romney, Donald Trump, or Hillary Clinton will be on the ballot on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. However, the changing dynamics of "THE MULLER-PROBE" and the constant tweets by our current Commander in Chief is going to have a bearing on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, when the Midterm Elections are scheduled to take place. The only question is what type of bearing will our current president have.

YOUR VOTE COULD BE THE DIFFERENCE

I believe past elections provide glimpses into what can perhaps happen in future elections. And with that said, we don’t have to look any further than the showdown between, Former President Barack Obama (in his re-election bid back in 2012) against his Republican challenger Mitt Romney to see that one voter precinct can swing a countywide election for either major political party. And heck, for that matter, a church, sorority or political action committee with a base of a few thousand politically active and engaged members could possibly swing the pendulum to the left or to the right.

WHO WILL WIN HARRIS COUNTY?

Look, truth be told, nobody can say with full certainty what’s going to happen in Harris County, Texas on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. However, both major political parties had better run like their nominees are 10 percentage points behind their rivals. I can say this with full assurance because what happened last night in Ohio was a wake-up call. What happened last night in that 12th Congressional District, and back in 2012 in the Presidential Election (in Harris County, Texas) points to what I believe is about to be a very close election on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, in Harris County, Texas. So, whether you are hoping and praying for a "BLUEWAVE" or anticipating a "REDSTORM" you had better realize that Tuesday, November 6, is going to be a "DOG-FIGHT" for every single vote by both major political parties! So, make no mistake about it, the difference between Republican hopefuls winning, and Democrat hopefuls winning could very-well come down to a few thousand, or perhaps even a few hundred votes – nobody knows! But in all your getting, please get an understanding that it's imperative that we make it our business to elect the "BEST QUALIFIED CANDIDATES" who value our vote when we go to the polls in 2018.

Judge John Schmude resides with his wife and two children in Spring. Before taking the Bench, Judge Schmude was a successful family law attorney with an extensive business and financial background and a strong record of service to children and to families – especially those children and families who have faced substantial challenges involving extreme poverty and abuse. Judge Schmude’s commitment to family law is motivated by his strong faith and his recognition that families are the first and firmest foundation upon which any healthy society is built. Judge Schmude is an active member of Annunciation Catholic Church in downtown Houston.

District Court. Judge Schmude was elected in 2014 and is currently asking for your vote as he runs for re-election in 2018. Here are some interesting facts to keep in mind in determining whether or not this Judge deserves your vote for re-election.

First, when Judge Schmude took office in January 2015, he inherited a court with a tremendous backlog of cases. After his first year in office, the 247th District Court disposed of more than 4,000 cases, more than any other family court in Harris County! The 247th District Court was repeatedly recognized in 2015 by the District Clerk’s Office for being the most efficient court in Harris County for electronic filing. This was an impressive accomplishment for a new Judge that was criticized by many within his own party for lacking the experience necessary to preside over this very important Court.

In accomplishing this objective, Judge Schmude implemented several innovative measures to promote efficiency, including the launch of an express docket, which allows any lawyer or litigant with a matter that requires five minutes or less of the court’s time to be heard before the call of the main docket. This has resulted in a reduction in the number of cases heard during the main docket and has allowed lawyers and litigants with matters of short duration to get in and out of court quickly, thereby reducing costs and promoting efficiency. He has also implemented a strong mediation policy – to encourage amicable solutions for families – and has allowed litigants to prove up settlement agreements any time during the day that the court is in session and available. This User-Friendly Court has won the overwhelming respect of the family law bar as Judge Schmude was rated as either “Excellent” or “Above Average” by nearly three-quarters of family law practitioners in the most recent HBA Bar Poll in every single judicial evaluation category.

Also, Judge Schmude, and his Associate Judge, Paula Vlahakos, have done an impressive job in presiding over CPS cases. CPS cases disproportionately affect minority families, and it is extremely important to have judges that take their gatekeeping role seriously. In other words, it’s important to have judges that act quickly to protect children from abuse and neglect while at the same time protect the constitutional rights of parents from illegal removals, which can decimate families and traumatize children. Judge Schmude demonstrated clearly his gatekeeping role in 2016 after it was apparent that a father’s constitutional rights had been grossly violated by an illegal removal. In this case, he rendered a scathing sanctions order in which he ordered CPS to pay nearly $30,000 in fees and ordered all CPS personnel associated with the case to read the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights to the Texas Constitution. Having a Judge that is not intimidated by powerful government agencies and who takes his gatekeeping role seriously is a benefit to all of our families. As a result of this case, Judge Schmude earned the prestigious Defender of the Family Award from the THSC. In order to serve the interests of justice, it’s so critical to have judges that ensure a level playing field: from powerful governmental agencies all the way down to the poorest litigant who cannot afford an attorney.

As he nears the end of his first term, Judge Schmude has demonstrated the ability to effectively and efficiently preside over a large and complex docket. Secondly, he has shown his conviction to treat all litigants with dignity and respect. Lastly, he has demonstrated a fair and impartial temperament and a conviction to make decisions based not on expediency but based merely on the desire to do what is right. Can we expect more from a family court judge?
