Former Mayor Sylvester Turner is the Last Person Democratic Precinct Chairs Should Nominate to Replace Congresswoman Lee

Former Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner (center) needs to go sit his tired butt down somewhere and get out of the way. Under no circumstances should the "HONORABLE DEMOCRATIC PRECINCT CHAIRS" nominate "SLY" over any of the people you see pictured above. For starters, former Mayor Sylvester Turner needs to be healthier to represent the people of the 18th Congressional District as they need to be represented. What "SLY" is doing right now is selfish, self-serving, and not in the best interest of the Black community. If nominated, Sylvester Turner will taint the legacies of the late Congresswoman Barbara Jordan, the late Congressman Mickey Leland, and the late Honorable Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. State Rep. Ron Reynolds, State Rep. Jarvis Johnson, State Rep. Jolanda Jones, former Councilwoman Amanda Edwards, State Rep. Shawn Thierry, former Councilman Dwight Boykins, Texas Southern University Board Trustee Richard Johnson, and Councilwoman Letitia Plummer are more suitable nominees than Sylvester Turner who will ultimately go down as one of the most corrupt Mayors in American history.

Former Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner should not be nominated to replace Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee on the upcoming Tuesday, November 5, 2024, Presidential Election ballot in the race for the 18th Congressional District. The people of the 18th Congressional District deserve someone who can continue the historic legacy of the late Congresswoman Barbara Jordan, late Congressman Mickey Leland, and late Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee -- not someone who will taint it.

The Honorable Melanie Miles Bazil is the Harris County Democratic Party Chairman for Precinct 140. Miles and a host of other "PRECINCT CHAIRS" must select a nominee to replace the Honorable Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee on the upcoming Tuesday, November 5, 2024, Presidential Election ballot in the race for the 18th Congressional District of Texas.

State Representative Ron Reynolds (HD-27) is a local official who has spent considerable time rebuilding his name while working hard for the people of Texas. As the chairman of the Texas Legislative Black Caucus, state Rep. Reynolds does not live in the 18th Congressional District. Still, he has strong "NAME-IDENTIFICATION" in Fort Bend County, Brazoria County, and Harris County, making him a top-tier candidate if he seeks the 18th Congressional District of Texas seat. However, State Rep. Ron Reynolds should reject the calls to run for the 18th Congressional District and bid his time as another congressional position more suitable to his strengths could arise shortly.

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: "Early voting will begin on Monday, October 21, 2024, and end on Friday, November 1, 2024, for the upcoming Tuesday, November 5, 2024, Presidential Election. It is incumbent upon us to make it our business to select the best candidate available in every down-ballot race."

Former Mayor Sylvester Turner is the Last Person Democratic Precinct Chairs Should Nominate to Replace Congresswoman Lee

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee will lie in state at Houston City Hall, 901 Bagby, on Monday, July 29, 2024, from 10:00 A.M. through 7:00 P.M. There will be a public viewing of the Honorable Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee’s body taking place on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at God’s Grace Community Church, 9944 West Montgomery Road from 4:00 P.M. through 8:00 P.M., and celebration of the Honorable Congresswoman’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, 3826 Wheeler Avenue, from 4:00 P.M. through 6:00 P.M. – traditional rituals.

On Thursday, August 1, 2024, the “FUNERAL SERVICES” for the Honorable Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee will take place at Fallbrook Church, 12512 Walters Road, at 11:00 A.M., to accommodate the member of the United States Congress and other dignitaries who will be attending.

“POSSIBLE SUCCESSORS.”

Former Mayor Sylvester Turner, 69, who underwent treatment for cancer in 2022, appears to be the likely frontrunner to succeed Congresswoman Sheila Lee, who lost her battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 74.

A few of the names that are floating around as serious contenders in the race to succeed the Honorable Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee are:

Sylvester Turner
Richard Johnson
Jarvis Johnson
Ron Reynolds
Shawn Thierry
Jolanda Jones
Dwight Boykins
Amanda Edwards
Deric Muhammad
James Dixon
Letitia Plummer

The list of “POTENTIAL SUCCESSORS” seeking to replace the Honorable Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee as the “DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE” on the upcoming Tuesday, November 5, 2024, ballot in the race for the 18th Congressional District of Texas is growing exponentially as familiar names and faces are making their intentions known.

Yesterday (Tuesday, July 23, 2024), a negative report surfaced on several major news stations and their partner publications dogging Democrat state Rep. Shawn Thierry (HD-146) and Democrat state Rep. Ron Reynolds (HD-27), both of whom could be serious contenders for Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee’s vacant 18th Congressional District seat if they decided to seek the seat if Governor Greg Abbott calls a special election to fill the remainder of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee’s term.

What’s remarkable about the story that broke about state Rep. Shawn Thierry and state Rep. Ron Reynolds is that a few hours after these two African American legislators were dogged in published reports by media outlets, “SLY,” better known as the same networks lauded Sylvester Turner, the embattled and sickly former Mayor of Houston as a possible contender.

Was it coincidental that state Rep. Thierry and state Rep. Reynolds got dogged by significant media outlets a few hours before the dirties Mayor in Houston’s history became a contender?

Or is there some trickery taking place behind the scenes? Remember, the replacement for Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee does not have to live in the 18th Congressional District.

“NO DAMN WAY.”

I’ve been telling everyone who would listen that Mayor Sylvester Turner was corrupt before he became Mayor and was even more corrupt after becoming Mayor. And now he wants to try to fill the shoes of the Honorable Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee — HELL NO!!!

Did you see the news report on Channel 2 news yesterday about Mayor Sylvester Turner’s former Houston City Manager, Patrece Lee, facing a new felony charge of engaging in organized criminal activity? Remember, Lee is already in jail with a $460,000 bond related to charges – levied against her for abuse of official capacity and four counts of bribery.

Who was Patrece Lee’s boss? You guessed it – Mayor Sylvester Turner.

From hosting orgies in the 1990s with “BLACK MEN,” who eventually benefited from contracting opportunities with the City of Houston during his tenure as Mayor of Houston, to drafting a will for a client who faked his death, “SLY” has been a complete disaster and embarrassment.

And don’t forget about “SLY’S” former law partner and $6.7 million after Hurricane Harvey in 2018. And remember, in February 2021, that whole fiasco when Tom McCasland, on that 2021 Multi-Family Uniform Application for a $15 Million project involving “SLY’S” former law partner – Barry Barnes.

Remember, William Paul Thomas and his connections to former Mayor Sylvester Turner may still be lingering and might not be over.

“WORKING THE PROCESS.”

You can’t say I didn’t tell you so, but Former City of Houston Mayor Sylvester, as I reported several months ago, has already announced his candidacy to replace Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.

And the saddest part about “SLY” entering the race is that his candidacy must be taken seriously. I’d bet my last dollar on Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis, who is very familiar with winning over the hearts of Harris County Precinct Chairs – who is pushing this process, might get his way.

If you think back to 2016, when then-Senator Rodney Ellis threw his name in the hat to replace Commissioner El Franco Lee after his untimely death, Ellis wiggled and squirmed his way into winning the Democratic nomination for Commissioner Lee’s vacant seat.

As a refresher, Ellis beat out Gene Locke, appointed by Republican Harris County Judge Ed Emmett to temporarily fill the seat. Ellis defeated Locke by a vote of 78-36 when they went before the Harris County Democratic Party Precinct Chairs after a robust Commissioner El Franco Lee died of a sudden heart attack a few months prior.

In 2016, when Ellis and Locke faced off for the vacant seat for “PRECINCT ONE,” 117 Democratic party chairs convened for more than two hours to conduct the election. And if you remember, many of the precinct chairs who participated publicly criticized and questioned how the voting process took place and cried foul.

Along with Commissioner Rodney Ellis and Gene Locke, Councilmember Dwight Boykins was nominated, and Nathaniel West, as a sitting precinct chair, nominated himself.

As with the 2016 battle for the late El Franco Lee’s vacant seat, R.C. Jones was very upset about the process. Remember, after serving as a Democratic Precinct Chair for over 40 years, Jones became very upset and questioned, “How could such an important position be placed in the hands of several dozen precinct chairs.”

The same holds for the upcoming “BATTLE TO REPLACE CONGRESSWOMAN LEE” as the nominee on the upcoming Tuesday, November 5, 2024, ballot in the race for the 18th Congressional District of Texas.

“THE HCDP CHAIRS.”

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee’s replacement, who will appear on the upcoming Tuesday, November 5, 2024, ballot, must be decided before August 26, 2024, by party rules.

What the Harris County Precinct Chairs must remember is that former Mayor Sylvester Turner, 69, had a battle with cancer in 2022, which he reportedly quietly underwent treatment for.

It doesn’t make any sense to select former Mayor Sylvester Turner as the nominee and force the people of the 18th Congressional District to potentially endure the same heartache they’re currently going through after losing Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee 74 after her battle with pancreatic cancer.

Below is a list of “THE PRECINCTS” that make up the 18th Congressional District and the names of the “THE PRECINCT CHAIRS” currently holding the chairmanships for each precinct.

Lincoln Williams, Charles Kuffner, Gretchen Myers, Gloria Moreno, Brandon Zaratti, Carolyn Henry, Michael Studdert, Bruce Holloway, Eulundia Shepard, Telisha Gage, Belinda Castro, Kimberly Satterwhite, Noelle McSherry, Ruth Kravetz, Laurel Hays, Arva Howard, Kenneth Yarbrough, Linda Bell-Robinson, Robin Anderson, Judy Craft, Charleen Jones, Vida Gamble, Melanie Miles, Barbara Edmonds, Lachandra Noel, Joetta Stevenson, Jevon German, Mae Silhan, Catherine Dorsey, Smitha Abraham, Elvia Alvarado, Terrance Shanks, Joselyn Thomas, Mardie Paige, Rebecca Cole, Katherine Blueford-Daniels, Carolyn Wright, Joseph Provost, Alfred Green, Verdell Dawkins, Glenda Pouncy, Alesia Shealey, Claudette Berry, Deborah Adams, Darian Hewitt, Agustin Martinez, Albert Voraman, Marc Flores, Ashley Mosley, Manuel Hernandez, Aimee VonBokel, Marva LeBeau, Broderick Butler, Barbara Eaglin, Ernestine Lloyd, Rafael Lemaitre, Joseph Madden, Alicia Jackson, Shemeanna Briscoe, Reginald Stewart, Matthew Prudhomme, Melanie Jackson, LaTonya Whittington, Charles Ingram, William Pesota, Vivian McKelvey, Huey German, Fred Woods, Allen Carter, Danielle Burrell, Terry Preston, Jancy Lewis, Derrell Wright, Mo Jenkins, Pamela Berry, LaGloria Sephus, Sylvia Pitre, Katherine Mize, Raymond Paige, Ivory Mayhorn, Monique Jackson, Sylvia Huerta, Julia Williams, and Evans Enwerem are the “DEMOCRATI PRECINCT CHAIRS” who will nominate a candidate to replace the late Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.

“FINAL THOUGHTS.”

In the spirit of public concern, I’m imploring the “DEMOCRATIC PRECINCT CHAIRS” listed above to reject former Mayor Sylvester Turner and elect someone other than “SLY” when they convene. Former Mayor Sylvester Turner may go down in history as the most corrupt Mayor in American history.

I’m imploring the “DEMOCRATIC PRECINCT CHAIRS” not to give “SLY” an opportunity to taint the legacies of the late Congresswoman Barbara Jordan, the late Congressman Mickey Leland, and the late Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, for the love of God and country.

Finally, if Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee wanted “SLICK A$$ SYLVESTER” to succeed her, she had ample opportunity to proclaim that to her constituents – and she did not do so.

Dan Simons will run for Harris County District Attorney against Sean Teare on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in what is expected to be an extremely close race.

“MEET DAN SIMONS.”

Dan Simons was born and raised in Southeast Texas. His family was impoverished and lived through the struggle of poverty. During his childhood, there were times when he was homeless and had no choice but to live in cars or tents to survive. Dan constantly faced problems and chaos in his family, ultimately being placed in foster care at a young age. He has four brothers and one sister, none of whom ever graduated high school, much like his parents.

At twelve, seeking stability to graduate high school, he made the tough decision to move in with a family he met through the Salvation Army. Through sheer determination and hard work, he graduated at the top of his class and was named All-District Quarterback in his senior high school. Dan became the first person in his family to graduate from high school.

After graduating high school in 1996, he joined the United States Air Force to serve his country.

In 2005, he moved back to Texas, intending to further his education and become a lawyer. He graduated from Sam Houston State University in 2008 at the top of his class. He went on to attend the Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston, graduating Magna Cum Laude in December of 2011. He received his Masters in Tax Law from the University of Houston in 2013.

As Assistant District Attorney, Dan handled thousands of cases. He tried 29 Misdemeanor Jury Trials and had five acquittals; 13 Felony Jury Trials and had only one acquittal; and 26 Justice of the Peace Court and Jury Trials. Dan's total conviction rate was 84%.

As a Misdemeanor Chief in Criminal Court No. 14, Dan Simons reduced the docket by over 200 cases in less than four months — a 20% reduction that reduced the court's burden and saved the county costs. In early 2017, he left the DA’s Office to work in private practice.

In 2018, he started his practice, Dan Simons Law Firm, focusing on criminal cases in Harris County, Fort Bend County, and Montgomery County, Texas.

“THE RIGHT MAN.”

Harris County has enough politicians. We need a Harris County District Attorney who isn’t afraid of political party bosses. We need a truth-seeking prosecutor – not a politician.

We need someone committed to restoring public safety, trust, and peace of mind in Harris County, Texas; Dan Simons is the right man for the job.

We need a Harris County DA who will protect the people, respect them, and give victims the justice they deserve; Dan Simons fits the bill, in my opinion.

Dan Simons is committed to ensuring that business owners receive equal protection under the law, enabling local communities to thrive rather than merely survive.

We’ve got some innocent citizens getting charged and convicted of crimes they may not have committed. With an honest man like Dan Simons as the Harris County District Attorney, wrongful convictions will decrease significantly, while lawbreakers can expect to receive the punishment they deserve.

Moreover, we can’t do anything about the past, but with Dan Simons as our District Attorney, addressing mistakes expeditiously rather than hiding them – could serve as a much-needed foundation to rebuild trust in our criminal justice system.

“ENDORSEMENTS”

On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, down-ballot candidates on both sides of the aisle running for office in Harris County, Texas, like Dan Simons, will be endorsed and supported by Houston Business Connections Newspaper. I strongly encourage you to vote for every candidate on “OUR EMPOWERMENT SLATE” and to encourage your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers to do the same.

Early voting will begin on Monday, October 21, 2024, and end on Friday, November 1, 2024, in Harris County. And remember, “THERE’S NO PLACE FOR HATE” in Texas.
