Pearland East Branch Voter Turnout has Jacquie Baly All Smiles As Early Voting Numbers May Indicate Mayor Tom Reid Has Taken the Early Lead Over His Challenger Quentin Wiltz in the General Election Runoff Race for Mayor of Pearland, Texas
REPORT by AUBREY R. TAYLOR
No, the runoff election in Pearland, Texas isn't over after the first day of early voting. So don't you dare pop that cork on the celebratory champagne bottle you're holding just yet. And don't set off any fireworks just yet. The General Election Runoff "SHOWDOWN" between Mayor Tom Reid and his pesky challenger Quentin Wiltz is long from over. So you'll just have to wait and see what happens between now and Saturday, June 10, 2017.
THE FIRST DAY OF EARLY VOTING BY THE NUMBERS
There were (779) BALLOTS CAST at the East Pearland Branch. There were (234) BALLOTS CAST at the West Pearland Branch. And there were (295) BALLOTS CAST at the Shadow Creek Branch on the first day of Early Voting -- which was Tuesday, May 30, 2017. I'm not trying to start anything; but there's been a lot of talk lately about an "EAST vs. WEST" divide in Pearland, Texas -- but that's not a discussion for today.
COMPARED TO THE LAST TIME
There were (248) BALLOTS CAST at the East Pearland Branch. There were (92) BALLOTS CAST at the West Pearland Branch. And there were (120) BALLOTS CAST at the Shadow Creek Branch on the first day of Early Voting back in the General Election -- which took place on Monday, April 24, 2017.
MAYOR TOM REID IS THE ONLY 2017 CANDIDATE ENDORSED BY JACQUIE BALY WHO WAS FORCED INTO A RUNOFF ELECTION
Do endorsements matter? Well, it all depends on who you ask. I'll bet if you were to ask Mayor Chuck Brawner -- the "NEWLY-ELECTED" Mayor of Katy, Texas; Mayor Susan V. Sample -- the newly "RE-ELECTED" Mayor of West University Place; FBISD Trustee Jason Burdine -- the "NEWLY-RE-ELECTED" Trustee for Position #1 in Fort Bend County; or Mayor Pro Tem/Councilman Gary Moore who recently won his "RE-ELECTION BID" in the race for Pearland City Council Member for Position #3 -- they would all perhaps give a resounding "YES" as their answer to this question.
A COMMON THREAD
So what's the common link between the recent successes enjoyed by all of the aforementioned candidates? I'm glad you asked. The common thread is, Jacquie Baly, a successful businesswoman and very "OUTSPOKEN" Political Analyst for FOX 26. She's currently a co-host of FOX 26 KRIV’s The RoundUp which airs every Sunday morning 6 AM – 8 AM. And her company, BalyProjects was founded back in 1999 with the objective of providing public affairs, public policy and planning services to individuals, institutions, small businesses, government and corporations. And NO, I'm not trying to give Jacquie Baly full credit for the recent successes enjoyed by the "DISTINGUISHED CANDIDATES" I just mentioned. However, her bravery and willingness to "SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER" is slowly giving her increased "NAME RECOGNITION" and "A RECOGNIZABLE BRAND" that people from all ethnic groups, political persuasions, and socioeconomic states can trust and respect.
SHE'S NOT SCARED
Jacquie Baly is definitely a person who isn't afraid to make her picks known before the election takes place -- that's one of the things I absolutely love about her. A lot of folks won't make endorsements in political contests at all; or in a lot of cases won't make them until they are "ABSOLUTELY SURE" that victory is certain for the candidate they favor. But not Jacquie Baly -- if she likes you...she's going to stand on the "FRONT-LINE" and battle with you! Such is the case as it relates to the Saturday, June 10, 2017 Runoff Election where Mayor Tom Reid, the beloved Mayor of Pearland, Texas finds himself embroiled in what is perhaps one of the toughest challenges he's faced since taking office many...many years ago.
CAN MAYOR REID CLOSE THE DEAL?
ONLY TIME WILL TELL
For now, we will just have to wait until after the election returns begin to flow in from the TWENTY SIX (26) VOTING PRECINCTS in Pearland, Texas on "ELECTION NIGHT" to find out if Mayor Tom Reid can win and secure his legacy. However, in true fashion, Jacquie Baly has taken her stance and made it perfectly clear that she and many other Pearlanders want for "EVERY REGISTERED VOTER IN PEARLAND, TEXAS TO VOTE EARLY (but not often) FOR MAYOR TOM REID IN THE RACE FOR MAYOR" of Pearland, Texas. After all, Baly believes that Mayor Tom Reid has done an excellent job representing the City of Pearland.
IN HER OWN WORDS
JACQUIE BALY: "Mayor Tom Reid has done an excellent job representing the City of Pearland. His heart and head are in the right place. The residents of Pearland are blessed to have such a dedicated public servant as their leader...Mayor Reid you have my full support and endorsement in your re-election bid. Please let me know how I can help you in this race and in the future."

LET'S CLOSE THE DEAL
Back in the General Election Mayor Tom Reid appeared to be heading to a "VERY EASY VICTORY" after "ABSENTEE VOTING" and "EARLY VOTES" were tabulated. However, his supporters "FAILED TO SHOW UP ON ELECTION DAY" -- allowing his opponent Quentin Wiltz to close ground on him, and force the "RUNOFF ELECTION" that's currently underway.
A RECAP OF WHAT HAPPENED IN THE GENERAL ELECTION IN THE SHOWDOWN BETWEEN TOM REID, QUENTIN WILTZ AND JIMI AMOS
Mayor Tom Reid beat Quentin Wiltz in "ABSENTEE VOTING" (216 TO 102). Jimi Amos only received (ten) 10 absentee votes. Mayor Tom Reid had a commanding lead at this point with 65.85 percent of the vote. However, Quentin Wiltz began to "CLOSE GROUND" during the "EARLY VOTING PERIOD" by gaining 1,902 votes or 43.88 percent of the "EARLY VOTE". Mayor Tom Reid received 2,237 "EARLY VOTES" and was still in the lead with 51.60 percent of the vote. At this point Jim Amos only had 4.52 percent of the vote -- making him pretty much a non-factor in the race.
VOTER TURNOUT WAS A PROBLEM FOR MAYOR TOM REID BACK ON SATURDAY, MAY 6, 2017
Heading into "ELECTION DAY" it appeared that Mayor Tom Reid had his opponents measured and would avoid a runoff. However, Quentin Wiltz and his bevy of "ELECTION DAY" supporters outpaced those supporting Mayor Tom Reid -- granting Quentin Wiltz "ANOTHER BITE AT THE PROVERBIAL APPLE". Get this, Quentin Wiltz beat Mayor Tom Reid in "ELECTION DAY VOTING" by receiving 1,457 votes to Mayor Tom Reid's 1,257 votes. The pesky Wiltz beat Mayor Reid by a mere 200 votes in "ELECTION DAY VOTING"; but it was more than enough to force the Saturday, June 10, 2017 runoff "SHOWDOWN" between Quentin Wiltz and Mayor Tom Reid. So we are encouraging "ALL" Pearlanders to join in the effort to help Mayor Tom Reid close the deal this time around.
THE FINAL VOTE COUNT FROM THE SATURDAY, MAY 6, 2017 GENERAL ELECTION
Mayor Tom Reid finished the night with 3,710 votes for 48.89% of the vote. Quentin Wiltz finished the night with 3,461 votes for 45.61% to force a runoff to decide the winner. Jimi Amos finished the night with 418 votes for 5.51% of the vote. The unofficial turnout for this race was 7,589 according to the Brazoria County Clerk -- WITH SEVENTY-ONE (71) UNDER VOTES. The runoff election between Mayor Tom Reid and Quentin Wiltz is underway and will end on Tuesday, June 6, 2017.

LET'S KEEP PEARLAND MOVING FORWARD BY RE-ELECTING MAYOR TOM REID TO ANOTHER TERM ON SATURDAY, JUNE 10, 2017
LET'S FINISH THE JOB THIS TIME: Yes, that's a cookie named after the honorable Mayor Tom Reid. The City of Pearland has experienced "UNPRECEDENTED GROWTH" under the direction of this dedicated public servant. He's committed most of his adult life to serving the City of Pearland, Texas. Yes, he's getting up there in age -- but he's still vibrant, full of energy, vitality and has an enviable supply of stamina woven into his DNA! Mayor Tom Reid is doing very well mentally, physically, and emotionally -- and is in much better shape and spirits than many people half his age. Make no mistake about it, he's "THE STEADYHAND" the City of Pearland needs during this "CRUCIAL TIME" when "THE DIRECTION THE CITY IS GOING TO HEAD IS AT STAKE". As an ambassador of sorts Mayor Tom Reid has "STOOD WITH PEARLAND MOST OF HIS ENTIRE ADULT LIFE". And on "SATURDAY, JUNE 10, 2017" he needs for every "REGISTERED PEARLANDER TO STAND WITH HIM IN HIS RE-ELECTION BID". So don't forget that back on Saturday, May 6, 2017 his opponent (Quentin Wiltz) made up a lot of ground on him and forced him into a Saturday, June 10, 2017 Runoff Election. Quentin Wiltz is hungry and smells victory! However, his hunger must be satisfied by the bitter taste of defeat -- and his thirst quenched by the oft-fleeting thoughts of what could-have-been. But for now, he's been granted a second chance to try to unseat the beloved Mayor Tom Reid. So you can bet your last dollar that he's going to be looking for his supporters to flood the polls again on Election Day! But Pearlanders should beat back Wiltz' feeble attempt with an "OVER-POWERING SHOW OF LOVE AND SUPPORT" befitting a man as honorable as Mayor Tom Reid. So let's make Saturday, June 10, 2017 different -- it must be! LET'S FINISH THE JOB WE STARTED by making quick-work of Quentin Wiltz -- and helping Mayor Tom Reid to secure his legacy.
