Voter Education is Key in Down Ballot Races Like the 2020 Race for Harris County DA, Between Ogg and Huffman

Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg, a Democrat, (left) is going to have her hands full trying to hold off Mary Nan Huffman, (right) a Conservative with the ability to appeal to voters well beyond her base. And with the abolishment of straight-ticket voting in Texas, Ogg will not enjoy the 70,367, straight-ticket vote advantage she enjoyed back on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, when she unseated (incumbent) Devon Anderson. So, over the next few months, Democratic and Republican nominees must work diligently to build their own name identification and brands in what will perhaps be the most “UNCONVENTIONAL PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION” of our lifetimes as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc on our nation. So, do not forget to do your research on every nominee before casting your vote. And please remind your family, friends, and neighbors to go all the way down their ballots on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, selecting the “BEST QUALIFIED CANDIDATES” who value "OUR" vote!

Down ballot, 2020 Races featuring Nominees Like District Attorney Kim Ogg and Mary Nan Huffman in Harris County are Vitally Important to Our Future

According to her website, Harris County District Attorney Kim K. Ogg is a native Houstonian licensed by the State Bar of Texas in 1987 and recognized as a specialist in Criminal Law by the Board of Legal Specialization since 1992. Upon taking office, she promised a new era of criminal justice by ensuring a just process for the victim, the accused, and the community in every case. She has focused her prosecutors on public safety by prioritizing the disposition of crimes against people and property.

Kim Ogg is being challenged by Mary Nan Huffman on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, in the race for Harris County District Attorney. Please do not forget that early voting will begin on Monday, October 19, 2020, and end on Friday, October 30, 2020.

Kim's legal career began in 1987 as a line prosecutor for the Harris County D.A. While serving as a Chief Felony Prosecutor, she was appointed Houston’s first Anti-Gang Task Force Director in 1994. From 1999 - 2006, Kim served as the Executive Director of Crime Stoppers of Houston. In 2006, Kim transitioned to private legal practice and became the managing partner of her own law firm.

Kim now brings her strong track record of public service and thirty years of criminal justice experience to the position of Harris County D.A. During the first six months of her Administration, she has successfully advanced major drug policy and bail reform, diversified the leadership of the District Attorney's Office and affected legislative reform on behalf of crime victims.

Mary Nan Huffman is seeking to unseat Kim Ogg on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, in the race for Harris County District Attorney. Please do not forget that early voting will begin on Monday, October 19, 2020, and end on Friday, October 30, 2020.

According to her website, Mary Nan Huffman is the experienced choice for Harris County. She is a mom and a smart, tough prosecutor, not a politician.

“As your next district attorney, I will hold criminals accountable by enforcing the laws of the State of Texas and then administering appropriate punishment. I will protect the public by supporting the efforts of law enforcement and be a voice for victims. I will return experience to the district attorney’s office, so the citizens of Harris County have a safe place to live, work, and play.”

Mary Nan Huffman is running for Harris County District Attorney because public safety is most important. She looks forward to seeking justice in evidence-based investigations while running the office with the highest ethical standards because that is what the citizens of Harris County expect and deserve.

Mary Nan Huffman grew up with her four siblings in Denton, Texas. Huffman watched her parents’ involvement in local politics and learned from an early age the importance of public service. Mary Nan graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Political Science degree and attended St. Mary’s University School of Law. While in law school, she worked at the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office and developed a passion for criminal prosecution.

Mary Nan Huffman served as a prosecutor in the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office for almost 10 years, rising quickly to become the Chief Felony Prosecutor in the Child Exploitation Division and over the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Division. During her time as Chief of Child Exploitation, she prosecuted a wide range of internet-related crimes committed against children: child human trafficking; the possession, production, and promotion of child pornography, child sexual assault; and any other case involving the sexual exploitation of children online. She directed the work of multi-agency task forces from federal, state, and local agencies.

Huffman’s work as a prosecutor of child exploitation cases has earned criminal conviction yielding 11 life sentences and four 99-year sentences. She has earned a national reputation and is sought after as a special prosecutor for difficult child exploitation prosecutions.

Huffman now works as an attorney for the Houston Police Officers’ Union representing officers in a variety of matters associated with duties as an officer.

Mary Nan has been married to Eli Huffman III for 11 years. The Huffman family attends St. Cecilia Catholic Church. They have 2 young sons. Huffman wants her children to grow up in a safe place and believes everyone deserves to feel safe. Huffman loves Harris County and thinks it’s one of the greatest, friendliest places to live, but believes our hospitality doesn’t have to extend to people who commit violent crimes.

Key 2020 Democratic and Republican Nominees You Should Get to Know if You Live in Harris County, Texas

On Tuesday, November 3, 2020, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and Wendell Champion Will Face Off in a Battle for the 18th Congressional District of Texas

AUBREY R. TAYLOR REPORTS©

Straight out of the gate – if Conservatives don’t recognize that they’ve got a born winner in Wendell Champion – they are blind! I’ve been telling everyone who would listen to me over the course of the last few weeks that Wendell Champion is the man they must ride in Harris County, Texas in 2020, to have any shot at being competitive on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. In case you don't know him, Wendell Champion is by far, the toughest challenger Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee has ever had to face off against in my opinion! I’ve met a lot of people with political aspirations over the course of my nearly 30 years studying the criminal justice system, and local politics. However, there’s something very different about Wendell Champion, an independent conservative who is hoping to claim the 18th Congressional District in a few months. Sure, his story is a compelling one. Absolutely, being raised by a single mother on welfare in New York, and accomplishing what he has to this point in his life is impressive. Yes, graduating from West Point – The United States Military Academy is something that few people can claim as a life achievement. But nothing has come easy for Wendell Champion. Yes, his life is about to get a lot tougher over the course of the next few months  – but something tells me that he's uniquely prepared for this pivotal moment in American history. One of the things I recognized when I first met Wendell Champion is that he has the heart of a champion. This man believes in himself. He’s more than qualified, and he has a heart for our people if you ask me.

WENDELL CHAMPION (CENTER) TO FACE OFF AGAINST CONGRESSWOMAN SHEILA JACKSON LEE ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2020

By handily defeating his Republican rival with more than 70% of the vote, on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, Wendell Champion has now set the stage for a Tuesday, November 3, 2020, showdown with “THE QUEEN,” herself – none other than Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. Can Wendell Champion beat Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee? Well, the answer to this question depends on who you ask, and a few different variables. First off, to have any shot at beating Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, he’s going to have to raise a hell of a lot of money. Can he do it? I believe he can. And after the way he manhandled his Republican rival, I don’t see him having trouble raising the money he’ll need, now that he’s claimed the Republican nomination. Secondly, Wendell Champion is going to have to get a lot of support from African American voters in the 18th Congressional District – the ones who are tired, fed up, and want to see change. Thirdly, Wendell Champion is going to have to get a team around him who are not afraid of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee – an army of volunteers who are willing to go into “DEMOCRATIC STRONGHOLDS” within the 18th Congressional District and ask for the vote. Fourthly, Wendell Champion and his team must breakdown the 18th Congressional District into “BATTLEGROUND PRECINCTS,” similar to how presidential candidates categorize “BATTLEGROUND STATES,” to determine how, and where they’re going to fight their battles and allocate their resources. Lastly, all of his naysayers must understand that there are well over 400,000 registered voters living inside the boundaries of the 18th Congressional District. However, only a small fraction of the registered voters living inside the boundaries of the 18th Congressional District actually go to the polls and cast their ballot for Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.

THERE WON’T BE ANY STRAIGHT-TICKET VOTING ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2020, WHEN CONGRESSWOMAN LEE FACES WENDELL CHAMPION

Without the benefit of “STRAIGHT-TICKET” voting, Wendell Champion could have a real shot on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, in the General Election. That being said, before anyone reading this post approaches me, talking about who has a shot at winning and who does not, I strongly suggest that you do your research. Why? Well, remember, I’ve been playing roles in political campaigns for nearly 30 years – and more often than not my clients WIN!!! Anyways, remember, there are well over 400,000 registered voters living inside the boundaries of the 18th Congressional District. However, back in 2018, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee only received 138,704 votes. But you have to understand that there were 392,965 registered voters living in the 18th Congressional District at the time of the 2018 Midterm Election. I’ll take it a little deeper for you, back in 2016, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee only received, 150,157 votes. Back in 2014, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee only received 79,097 votes. Back in 2012, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee only received 146,223 votes. Back in 2010, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee only received 85,108 votes. Back in 2008, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee only received 148,617 votes. Back in 2006, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee only received 65,936 votes. What am I trying to say? Well, a candidate with the pedigree of Wendell Champion could match up well against Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee in a “GENERAL ELECTION” where there’s no “STRAIGHT-TICKET” voting like the one we’re about to have in Harris County, on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. How can I make this assertion? Well, in the last major election that was held back on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee won her bid for re-election with 138,704 votes. But what people fail to realize is that a significant portion of the votes Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee typically receives in any given election comes by way of “STRAIGHT-TICKET” voting. So, to hold off a candidate like Wendell Champion, who at this point is undefeated, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee must take him seriously! And beyond that, she must campaign like she’s never campaigned before between now and Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
