African-American Democratic Females Had A Rough Day at the Polls in the Tuesday, May 22, 2018 Democratic Primary Runoffs

AUBREY R. TAYLOR: “A special congratulations goes out to Attorney Sharon M. Burney on her hard-fought victory over Cheryl Elliott Thornton in the race for Harris County Justice of the Peace for Precinct 7, Place 2 on Tuesday, May 22, 2018. While I'm at it, I would also like to thank Attorney Sharon M. Burney for allowing us to feature her in our "GROUND-GAME EDITION" of Houston Business Connections Newspaper© prior to the beginning of early voting. Other Houston Business Connections Newspaper© supporters who won their runoff bids for "DEMOCRATIC PARTY NOMINATIONS" were, Danyahel "Danny" Norris in the race for Harris County School Trustee, Position 6, Place 1 -- Danny defeated Prince E. Bryant in a hard-fought contest; and Daine Trautman in the race for Harris County Clerk. Diane defeated Gayle Young Mitchell in a hard-fought contest as well."

Gayle Young Mitchell, Rozzy Shorter, Ruby Faye Woolridge, Letitia Plummer, Tawana Walter-Cadien All Ran Valiantly; But Came Up Short on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, in Harris County, Texas

ANALYSIS BY AUBREY R. TAYLOR

Unfortunately, many of the African-American Democratic female candidates who were seeking nominations on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, suffered major defeats in their respective runoff races. In case you haven’t heard, Ruby Faye Woolridge lost her bid to become the Democratic nominee for U.S. Congress for the 6th Congressional District to fellow Democrat Jana Lynne Sanchez. Tawana Walter-Cadien lost her bid to become the Democratic nominee for U.S. Congress for the 10th Congressional District of Texas to fellow Democrat Mike Seigel. Dr. Letitia Plummer’s hopes of becoming the Democratic nominee for U.S. Congress for the 22nd Congressional District were also dashed as her campaign could not keep pace with her fellow Democratic rival Sri Preston Kulkarni. Gayle Young Mitchell and Roslyn “Rozzy” Shorter suffered similar fates in their bids to become Democratic nominees for the Harris County Clerk and Harris County District Clerk positions respectively. Gayle Young Mitchell lost to her fellow Democratic rival Diane Trautman in the race for Harris County Clerk. Diane Trautman must now face off against Republican (incumbent) Stan Stanart on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. And Rosslyn “Rozzy” Shorter lost to her fellow Democratic rival Marilyn Burgess in the race for Harris County District Clerk. Marilyn Burgess will now face off against Republican (incumbent) Chris Daniel on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, in the race for Harris County District Clerk.” *The comments on this page are those of Aubrey R.
